I could have sworn that the old 939 4400+ windsor had 2-1Mb of L2 cache. The original AM2 design was a dog as well. I remember the complaints very well, as it didn't perform as well as the socket 939s and had terrible memory bandwidth compared to the Intel C2D. I did upgrade the bios in OxiMoron and it did improve the memory bandwidth, but the AM2+ and the 780G chipset is definitely the better of the two!
EDIT!
I'm sorry, I meant the Toledo Core! It had 2x1MB of L2 cache on the 4400+!

Did you notice what was written above the drive?
'RAM Disk' is not an installation procedure! LOL!! Good price and it will use less power, run cooler and make less noise than the comparable 7200.10 500/32 drive!

Hehe, Seagate spokesman?
That is a cheap deal for a Seagate I'll admit. Hope you've got good cooling though, those big 7200.10s get pretty darn hot.

Well, all the S-ATA cables I've folded in the way you do it have broken within months. Of the tens of cables I've used without folding, only one has broken.

Please provide a link and some empirical data for such statements. I've been doing this for over a year now and NO evident problems that I can tell. What are the problems that they indicate? It's truly not that big of a deal because I can loop them up and not bend them but folding them is so fun. :P

Hey, I said I read something about this a while ago, and I sure as heck don't remember where it was, but I did find this in a quick search:

You should also keep them away from power cables! They also shouldn't bundle them together!

I think what does it is repeatedly folding them, if you do it and leave them be it shouldn't be as much of an issue.

I do know from the Serial Printer days that you couldn't place them too close to power lines. I'm also sure that they have improved Sata cables a lot in the last couple of years, and made them heavier!

Programs shouldn't just crash like that. I'd run a full disk scan for errors. If you have recorded errors in computer management, chances are data corruption could have happened as well.

Have you by any chance refused upgrades for it, or are you running IE 7?

Hey Rob. What version of AVG is that? It looks like 7.1. 8.0.1 is far better. In fact I have the pay one (full Suite) as well, but I prefer the free version to it! Never had any problems with it!

I had problems yesterday with both Hotmail and FireFox. Both upgraded without my permission, and FireFox upgraded to the latest version of 2.0 and Hotmail would no longer allow me to use the Classic Hotmail I like. Hotmail blocked me from openimg my e-mails unless I clicked continued, which upgraded Hotmail, and then FireFox2 popped up a window and told me I could upgrade now or later. When I chose later, it popped up a message when I shut it down, that it would install the upgrade the next time I started FireFox. I tried to uninstall FireFox at that point, but it said I had to complete the upgrade first and then delete it. I eventually wound up upgrading FireFox, as I couldn't open things. none of my bookmarks would completely work Like I could open AD, but It wouldn't let me open any threads. I was eventually forced to upgrade to the latest versions of Hotmail and Firefox 3! I wasn't happy at all. Sneaky bastards just kept shutting off features (Some features may no longer work properly!) until both programs no longer did the job. Before that, things only worked in IE, which I can't stand. All that clicking and clacking and having to manually make each page open to full screen. So far everything is working fine! You can turn off Automatic Upgrades, but eventually you will have to comply or things just won't work, Blackmail, I call it!

To save you some time, you have to remove the old one first! Then you can install 8!

Have you tried replacing the Sata cables? If you had a connection problem, some files may have gotten messed up. Consider giving system restore a try since it was working all right for a while!

A couple of things! Remove the Adware or Adaware, whatever they call it. You no longer need it with AVG 8.0. I had some issues with it after I installed AVG 8! Go up to the tools in firefox and click on Add-ons. If AVG Safe Search is enabled, disable it. Firefox usually disables it, but not always. It slows the crap out of the computer when doing anything on line and it's not needed as it's total overkill. AVG recommends it be turned off because of that according to their website. You have me totally puzzled with the Add-ons as all I ever have to add is the Weather bug. Java, you may or may not have to add depending on your software. I have Adobe Reader 8 installed, which requires Java, but it comes with it, so I don't have to add Java because I install it first, and then installed Adobe.

The OS was fragged when I had problems the other day and windows would run, but it wouldn't properly install things. Newegg had accidentally shipped me a returned MB that was obviously defective. After installing the new one I had problems with Office XP, Sandra and a couple of other programs. The XP-Pro install had BSOD'd with the first MB in the middle of the install, and I restarted and continued the install, and everything seemed to be working all right, but I kept getting error messages if I opened Word, Excel, Power-Point or any of the Office XP programs! Sandra wouldn't install at all, which I originally attributed to Sandra reporting an Unknown MB (didn't recognize the chipset). I finally wiped the drive and did a fresh install of XP-Pro, and the install went without any problems. It was weird, as Windows appeared to be working properly. I had no problems with the replacement MB which Newegg overnighted to me. Everything worked fine after that!

When I had the browser problem caused by the forced upgrade to FF 2.0.018 and the new Hotmail, I un-installed Firefox 2 and installed FF 3! Actually you can install it as an upgrade and it all works fine now. The only utility I use now, is Tuneup Utilities 2008. I no longer use 1 Click Fixer as it crashed Gina's computer, and BSOD'd on her, and was giving strange error messages on mine, so I removed it. I tried Opera 9.62 as a browser and IMO it sucks! In 2 days, I had 193 tracking cookies. That's more than I've seen, total in 4 years with FF! I usually run the Tuneup 1 click Maintenance at least once a day if I'm on line a lot as it does a great job of removing all the useless crap and temporary files. It sounds like something is messed up in your XP, maybe a driver issue with internal windows drivers, which was my problem. I've been running the hell out of the 4400+ for a couple of days now and it's rock solid and very fast. If you continue to have problems, I would start over with a wipe of the drive and a fresh install of XP-Pro. If you are using the install disk with SP-2, I would recommend you install XP, AVG next and then do your XP authentication. From there, if you use RI4M, install Nero, DVD Decryptor and then DVD Shrink. After that everything should work properly. Good Luck!

Russ
