At the risk of angering people who feel they have answered this before, I have scanned scores of listings and I don't feel I've found the answer to my problem... and now that DVD Decrypter is no longer available perhaps it's all become even more difficult. In any case: We're talking about Guitar Hero III for PS2. I have .rar files which I extracted to a 4.3gb ISO folder. Using Power ISO I burned it to DVD, but dropping it into the player I get the "Please insert a PS2 Disc". So, what gives? If all the files are there, why isn't it a PS2 disc? Is this where "swap disc" comes into play? In any event, I appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

sellingrs,
We don't need or want to know if you've downloaded the files. Its irrelevant to the problem so let's not leave information like that in the future.

Fair enough. I just thought it might be useful to fully explain the situation rather than [removed] around it. But I imagine that there's a lot of secret code going on in these conversations... fair enough. I'm a newbie, as the site indicates. Meanwhile -- do you have any advice to offer? I could certainly use it.

My advice would be to read the forum rules. Cursing, even when using cute substitute letters, isn't allowed in the forums.

It is a big problem, not just lots of posts but lots of hits, many people search for the problem to be resolved.
But I have been studying the PS2, PS1 and PS3 architecture, I daren't open my PS3 as it is brand new but the PS3 comes with a mod-chipped anyway when it comes with a 60GB hard drive (PS3 came with the development framework and GNU license - don't know why GNU of all things, maybe its the mod-chip freeware). So I'm still wondering why it doesn't work, tried swap magic and many more.
My PS2 isn't mod-chipped but my friend does.
I downloaded my games from GameSpot network (I downloaded two) for PS2 without mod-chips and it didn't work on mine nor my friends PS2, not even my PS3.
After a week of unscrewing the microprocessor from the motherboard inside my PS2, I found that it has a wider read/write wire than the PC burns to a disc with, considering the amounts of articles from Sony on this, apparently the PS3 and PS2 is a 64-bit engine with 52x reader, does this mean I can't burn 64-bit discs?
Answers no, but some writers can do, with or without a 32-bit scanner.
Seen as there are 8 words per 8-bytes on a 64 bit structure, that gives it a bit more CPU horsepower for instructions at once.
64-bit architecture is a fairly new design though, I didn't understand that, as PS2 is quite old. I bought it at £599 when it came out.
Writing a 8x8 bit structure on the disc, makes it incompatible for the PC, writing a 8x4 (32) bit structure on the disc, makes it incompatible for the PS2, making the PS2 and the PC almost impossible to connect to each other.
They can via networks, pure HTML, etc. But I found a new technology that gives us a new hope...
PSX, this technology allows downloads and has an in-built burner that will download games off your favourite website or from a 32 or 64 file system, such as your PC that downloaded the file, it just needs the files to burn, uncompress what you downloaded or ripped in a folder, connect your PC to the PSX and transfer it, the PSX should burn it, or you can put the disc in it want to copy, or the files that are on the disc that won't boot on PS2 and after the rip of it, it should burn correctly as a PS1/PS2/PS3 disc!
You can get this in Japan, or order it online, sorry for the disappointment, but when you upgrade your PC, maybe in the next generation everything will be 64-bit and universal.
Thanks, maybe the other solutions posted in this topic will work for you, but maybe, unless you've found a breakthrough related to the topic, don't post anymore, the pages are already 150-something strong in numbers!

and your post was the biggest waste of space yet in this threaed, it had no relevent info for backing up a ps2 game, sound more like you dont want to take the time and read
edit:
try burning your ps2 games at 4x not 2-2.4x and you will get better results
how do you know the proper speed of a ps3 game as you have not been able to see if it works

Modchip comes with a PS3 with a built in 60GB hard drive sometimes.
Modchip was originally custom built into the PS3 for this reason only:
Download service.
I have been using an emulator on my computer and something came to light.
I realised it definitely works, but PS doesn't think it's a genuine disk.
Not even commercial burners work.
But some disc burning hardware can and only some kinds of discs work.

Hey there. I've been reading through this form and I have found out some really helpful things, but I'm still having some trouble and I'd like to ask a question.
I'm trying to make a backup of a game that I own, but when I try to copy it with Nero I get a copy protection error and it pops up a bunch of disc read errors so I downloaded a iso of my game off of the internet to try and make a backup of my game. After I did that I was finally able to successfully burn the game onto both a CD-R and a DVD-R, but neither CD will work. I keep getting an error from my PS2 Mini saying to insert a Playstation or Playstation2 format disc. After reading through the form some more I learned about the PS2 Mod Chip and did some Googleing on it and I think that's what I need to fix my problem, but I can't afford it. While I was googleing around for information on the mod chips I found out how they work. I understand how the PS2 checks the CD/DVD for the boot info and if the CD/DVD doesn't have it or has incorrect boot info the game won't play and the mod chip either bypasses this or inputs the boot data its self. That said, since I can't afford a mod chip to play the game I burned I was wondering if there was a way to burn the boot data I needed onto the CD/DVD so I would not need to go out and buy this mod chip.
Also, on a side note, from the sound of it there really doesn't need to be a specific CD or DVD that you need to use right? I'm just trying to use a regular every day CD and DVD to do this.
I appreciate any help I can get from anyone here. Thx in advance.

@chibRona
You can use a software boot instead, just get swap magic 3.6
It's factory burned in a special way so you won't be able to do it yourself. Swap magic usually goes for around $20-$30 online if you can find it.
And dvd brand does matter. Verbatim seems to be popular because of its wide availability in the US. There's other high tier brands you can use though, check the faq thread stickies. It's also a good idea to use DVD+R with the slim ps2

hate to say it guys but your reading skills need some improvement
if you have been reading this thread at all you would know that dvd decrypter is the eisiest and most reliable way to back up a ps2 game, burn them at 4x and use -R dvds, if this is to hard to understand then just stop and go buy the damn game, yes there are other ways that sometimes work and there are other dvds that sometimes work, but why mess around when there are pages and pages of info stating exactly what i just posted

The first few times I did the slide trick I could not get it to work. You have to follow the instructions on how to do the slide part carefully, and once you get it you will know exactly how to do it again. Kind of like a bike, you get the feel for it then you have it for life.
keep trying..... if i remember properly, once you put the game in the tray and push it in, you have to do a small slide to the right then a big one to the left which you can feel the disk try locking into place. This is the keep aspect.
again read the directions on how to do it and try again.

I have never backed up a PS2 game before so im not sure how to do it. I used one of the procedures in this forum and it did not work. I also used a DVD RW. Im not sure whats wrong

dont sit here and tell me you are following the steps in this thread when you are obviously NOT
1)USE DVD DECRYPTER
2)USE -R MEDIA ONLY (no rw, no +r)
3)BURN AT 4x
if that doesnt work give up and go BUY THE GAME
get better media like verbatim or tayo uden

Quick way to copy a game. Assuming you have the original game dvd and want to back it up.
step#1
open dvd decryptor then go to MODE>ISO>READ and then it will copy the game and make an iso file on your pc hdd.
Step#2
when that finishes go to MODE>ISO>WRITE and then select the iso file that decryptor just maade. It will burn the file to the dvd and presto you are done.
Simple as that.
