Is TY valueline media worth getting or should I stay with the more expensive premium line? In other words what are the valueline scans like as compared to premium line?

SMS has 600 TY valuelines for $174 (inkjet hub pritable) if I remember right. The 100 pack is around $33....

some folks here say they are of the same quality. the only thing with the value line @ SMS if you order 8x-r's you might get 16x-r's instead.they ship what they have at the time. so you might get 8x and might get 16x. being TY's i doubt you will have any bad luck with them.

bratcher doin the math I would go with the link that RedRob gave us from Meritline.com. They are little less than 27˘ each and the SMS.com deal is a little over 29˘ each. I would go for the premium line every day if they are cheaper, NOT that the quality matters in this case but saving a few dollars does. :D

good luck with your decision...

Well for the 8x Valueline white inkjet printable Meritline is $33.99 per 100 pack & SMS is $33.99 per 100 pack so it's a toss tp right now as to which one to buy. I don't need any right now as I've got around 2000 DVD's to butn (mostly TY) so I'm set for a few months between my computer & the DVD recorder. Only about 275 of those are cheap media that I bought for testing. They work but I know that TY is much better.

What, 2000 blank DVD's??? Yep, I had some left over plus I bought two TY white inkjet printable 600 packs and recently some cheap CMC/fake MCC stuff just to see how it would test out.

bratcher I need to apologize to you about not reading you were using/wanting hub printable discs. ;) That is a good deal indeed and as I said before I would take either the value line or the premium line depending on the best price. :) They are both good quality....

ZoSo is a little hard core but I understand. ;)

bratcher I would stick with MIS DL Verbies if it were me.. They're the best of the crop right now and the success rate with them is very high with a well running machine. :) I use the Ritek S04 and D01 DL discs as well but I don't have a 100% success rate either. I think maybe hobbit112 might be a better judge of DL media. IIRC he burns quite a bit of it. ;)

On to SL media... I've had ok luck with both... MII or MIT SL discs have been working ok.. It's luck of the draw I guess. What's funny/unusual is the fact that some people have had issues with the MIT stuff... lol. So who knows?? ;)

Thanks. I really don't burn any DL media. Last I used was some MIS Verb & it turned out fine.

I'm glad you guys think I'm hardcore all 150 pounds of me huh lol

I think getting the MIS DVD+R DL Verbatim are getting harder to get as time goes buy.

ordering Taiyo Yuden online solves all my problems being Verbatim media is hit and miss now

As i always say in other threads, i've had years of nothing but success with (single layer) MII Verbs, in the older 8x guise and the new 16x ones, other than a bad few MCC004 once upon a time, can't remember which country they were from now. At the time i sent back a few hundred MCC004 and got them replaced with something else.

And not sure i've mentioned it before in this thread but i've used huge amount of RICOHJPNR03 (Maxell 16x +R) with nothing but 100% success and the same with the newer Maxell 16x +R which often code out as CMC M01's (have used large amounts of both).

Oh Boy, here we go, yep I did pick up a hundred verb's at sams club, and wanted to go back for more later, now I read this, OK, I need some extra input now, as Zo put it, (hope there were MIS and not MII) now how do I know which one I have, I always thought when it came to ty's or verbs that was that, nothing to worry about as long as they are not fakes of course, now I buy legit verbs and I need to be concerned.

I bought dvd+r, 100 pack yesterday, a month ago I finally purchased a 25 pack of verbs dvd+rDL, now what do I need to do to find out if I have MIS'S or MII's, please and thank you.

How long have you been burning those CMC M01's? Have you tested some of the oldest ones to see how the results look? Reason I'm asking is I have three CMC M01 packs (one HP, one Phillips & one Memorex) that I'm burning at 8x in the computer & 1x in my DVD recorder. Test results of both speed fresh burned discs look fine although not as good as TY or MIS Verbs.

The other one I'm burning in the DVD recorder is an CMC AM3 -R Magnavox pack. Recordings test fine too but I have no idea how long the media will last. Bought the 4 packs at Microcenter for testing & after good results decided to keep & burn the rest of them. After that it's back to TY...

quite some months now. watchability & recopyability are 100%. I don't buy into the quality scanning game (if that's what you mean by test results), i go purely by watching movies and whether they are re-rippable (much) later on.

Why not? I find DVD Infopro useable for quality testing.

As to watching movies I hope those CMC discs I bought play back ok in 6 months to a year. Only time will tell....

I only do CRC scanning when i buy new burners (ie to be confident with them when new) or if i buy new blank media that i haven't used before. Again that's only for a short while for confidence in new discs. After that it's down to playability and re-ripping, the CRC scanning would only be started again if any problems arose. But as i say i am not into the quality scanning lark, i don't find it relevant personally.

I'm the same way. Scan new discs & if they test ok then burn them all. It seems most of my old discs (of different manufacturers) read back fine on the computer. Only ones I had trouble with were 8x Riteks. The 4x Ritek is still readble & I've had no problems with 16x Ritek. So maybe these different brands are alright after all...

Creak, I bought 800 verbs from office max several months ago, there were 20 bucks per 100 pack, and thats a deal, I still have a bunch with all the wrapping still on, it says made in taiwan, the 100 pack I bought yesterday from sams club was 30 bucks 100 pack still a good deal, or so I thought, anyway those were made in india, now I have been using the taiwan ones for several months now and have not had a failure yet, so if its made in taiwan or india are we suppose to stay away from those, and to get the top notch verbs what made in should it say.

As i say, i personally get on great with the Indian Verbs and am confident enough to recommend them to others, however if you're unsure just stick with the Taiwanese disks as those are what the majority of people seem to have the best luck with. I don't know how media returns are dealt with in the US but if they're unopened i suppose you'd have a good chance of swapping/refunding them.

There's talk of Verbs being made in China now, previously that would always mean they were fakes , but i don't know if they are now definitely made in China or not; just something else to bear in mind (i don't remember if that's dual layer or single though, plus i don't/won't use dual layer anyway so i pay very little if any attention to info on dual layer stuff).

I sometimes wonder if scans are really usable. Today I scanned an 8x Sony data disc I burned over 2 years ago & got pi rates in the 256 range (red zone in DVDinfopro) & the disc still copied back to the hard drive (as a test) in 8 minutes. The quality rating score for that disc was around 75%. I guess DVD drives can read almost anything if the disc isn't scratched or otherwise damaged as that disc didn't have a mark on it's data side.

Tried a CMC Maxell data disc (I didn't burn it) that I was given sometime last yesr. Score 65%, large area with pi rates up to 440 yet it still read back ok in my drive. Took 10 minites to copy to the hard drive.
