My DVD recorder (hooked up to the cable DVR) seems to uverburn the beginning of the new Verb 16x discs. They play ok just lots of red at the start then drops to yellow & then green for the rest of the disc as shown by DVDinfopro. I guess I'll check Both SMS & Meritline for the best prices of silver matte or white inkjet printable TY & Verb 8x then do test recordings on each of them.
Does 8x media do better at 1x than 16x does? The 4x Verb white inkjet printables I used to be able to buy showed great results.

bratcher from my experience the 4X media seems to do better at 4X or lower. If you can find 4X media I think you might have better luck. ;) I back up GameCube games and use 4X DVD-R mini's and they work like a charm. ;)

btw good luck with finding some 4X media. :P

I am a new member but have been reading as a guest for the past 2 years now I have a a couple questions I haven't found the answer to elsewhere.
First, I have a pioneer 112d, well now flashed to 112L to allow book-typing. I used to use it to burn and also to scan in nero. Now it can't scan after being switched to 112L. Because of that I have switched to scanning with my Sony Dru-830a which I didnt realize when I bought it that it is actually a samsung but thats besides the point. My dvd's used to read 98 and 99's with PIF totals around 100-200 with the max usually 1 in the pioneer. Now in the sony they get usually anywhere from 300-1000 PIFs. Which one is right?
Also, I've started using imgburn and have realized on the nero scans that it only burns my ty 8x +r high quality. The last ty +r had a total of 100 pif's and a 98 score. But my ty 8x -r burned on imgburn with the same exact file being burned had a total of more like 3000 PIF's and a spike of 4. What gives? I burned the same file again on a -r through nero and it had 300 PIF's. Anyone else seen this with imgburn?
Wasn't sure if this post would be best here or not. I do use strictly ty dvd's bought through sms based mostly on the advice in this thread so I was torn between starting a new thread or adding it in here.

First off Pioneers and Samsungs are NOT known for scanning, well that is. ;) Which version of CD/DVD Speed are you using?? I read somewhere that the newer version will NOT support the Pioneer scanner. I think you have to revert back to 4.7.5.0. You might do a search on that. sorry I'm being lazy. :D
I wouldn't get to caught up on the QS with your scanning. Remember those are just eye candy and playability is the main concern.
Have you done a defrag lately?? Run CCleaner? Disk clean up and so on. ;)

You CAN'T compare DVD-R and DVD+R media! NOW the IMGBURN discrepancy is bothersome to say the least. I've had very good luck with IMGBURN but I like Nero as well. Were you using Nero to burn an ISO image or TS_VIDEO file?? It makes a difference I think. ;)
Were you surfing or anything with any of the burns. I normally don't like to bring this up but even with Dual Cores there is the possibility that extra activities can effect the "quality" of a burn.

If it were me I would start another thread or try the Nero scan thread. We all like to see scans even tho they're eye candy. hehehe. :P
good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions anytime. :D

I'm know from all my reading that the dvd scans are just an extra tool and the main thing is if it plays. And even more important if it plays years down the road. I was just wondering why the drives were so different.
I did go back to an older version of nero dvd scan and the pioneer now works and is reading the disk now. Didn't even think of it. Even though I flashed the drive the same day i downloaded the new nero scan. The weird thing is that in the pioneer the PIE's are usually 60-100 when on the sony they are down below 10. I guess i will just forget the scans and move on. I am burning high quality tys on a pioneer that many others on here seem to have success with and I don't multi-task when i burn. Even though i do have a dual core with 3 gigs of ram. Also, I have done a defrag recently and do them weekly.
As for the ccleaner, I have McAfee and it has a system cleaner that seems to do all that ccleaner says it does.
When I used nero i burned from the video_ts folder. Using imgburn i went through build mode with the same video_ts folder.

As greensman said don't fret over those QSs. They really don't mean much. If you got a good burn, it plays flawlessly, and you can copy that sucker, especially on the fly; then you've got yourself a first rate quality disc. IMHO. I stopped checking them long ago with Nero QS.

My supply of Verb 4x white inkjet printables has dried up. I can't find any no matter where I look online. Last I bought was from Meritline. All I see from them is Ridata 4x silver shiny at $.18 each. I'll try a 100 pack of these & also the 8x from Verb & TY then run scans on some DVD recorder burned discs.
