Because I read a review of the HD4850 stating: "Heatsink has a metal face on it and sticks way out, if this surface touches the back of a second card in crossfire it wouldnt be pretty. I would not suggest this card for crossfire because of the thickness of the heatsink fan, it might work but a paper thin gap between a metal plate grounding out the solder joints on the back of my second card would worry me." This scared me a little bit.
Quote: For Schwaber - that old 4ghz netburst architecture I'm still on equates to one core of core 2 duo running at 2 ghz because of the increased throughput of core 2 duo versus old p4 netburst, not to mention that you get two of those cores with dual core, and four with quad core - so basically my p4, at about as fast as you can get a p4 to go, still sucks!
Hey, can you simplify this for me? lol
I don't really understand what you are saying here. And you are talking about my cpu right?

Quite a variable set of results here really. The 5570 equals the 4670 in the first two titles, but trounces it by 35% in Call of Pripyat, yet the Hexus test clearly shows the 5570 below the 4670 in almost all tests.
Amusingly, the 4470 comes out as 6-9 times as powerful as the 4350. No greater way of showing why using mega cheap graphics cards to try and play games is a false economy, an £80 card is 9 times as fast as a £30 card.

Schwaber: You're not intending to use the 4850 in crossfire, so that's irrelevant. You won't be using a second card alongside it, so there is no danger. On top of that, the guy reviewing it clearly doesn't know what he's talking about, because no graphics cooler can ever exceed the number of slots it states it requires, because that would mean you couldn't fit anything in the slot next to it and would be false advertising. If the HD4850 was not safe to use with another card next to it, it wouldn't be advertised as a dual-slot card. There is nothing to worry about using that HD4850. I have specified dozens of them in PC builds over time, and nobody has ever come back with a problem.

One of my friends has two 4850's in CF and there are no issues.

Price tag aside, would you still get the HD4850 over the xfx gts250? I'm really having second thoughts here..
I saw this and its pretty much the same but cheaper. The manufacturer is BFG though.

bfg are a very good brand.
i would check which games i played (at my resolution) and find benchmarks for them too see which card runs them best

Still $35 more than the HD4850, and not much faster at all. I'd still stick with the 4850 really. The HD4850 would have to be $20 more expensive for me to buy the GTS250.

I couldn't find enough specs for the HD4850 and I don't know if sapphire is a good brand as well. Also, the sapphire hd4850 is smaller than the gts250 right? If it is, then I might reconsider it. I'm really picky when it comes to this so pardon me. But anyway, I just realize that my system is only DDR2. And the xfx gts250 is DDR3. Will it still work on my system? (I really feel like Am a heavy burden on u guys for asking such stupid questions)

Sapphire is an excellent brand, and the HD4850 is a direct rival to the GTS250 on specification. Graphics memory is completely unrelated to system memory, you don't need DDR3 to use a graphics card with GDDR3.

I wouldn't feel that way. Though I do sometimes LOL! We all have to start somewhere. I've heard that saphire is pretty good. BFG is pretty good too. I believe it's an american brand too. I have a BFG. Most solid GPU I've bought to date. Though I haven't bought much. An ASUS 8600GT(very nice), And an XFX 6200(P.O.S.), and my current BFG GTX 260(Incredible!). Those three are the only ones I've bought to date.

No need to feel that way, that's partly what this thread is for. I'll be abusing AD threads once again when I'm closer to doing my next build lol.

It should have had a lifetime warranty; RMA it (if you want at this point).

I could care less about its warranty at this point. They'd probably replace it with a similar model, which I can't use at this point. I only have one PC with AGP, and I don't use it anymore...

Bioshock 2 Benchmark is out, and for once, it's a game a normal PC can run, hooray! The game seems to favour nvidia hardware by a reasonable margin, but nothing too severe.

Extrapolating from these tests, an HD5870 is likely to manage 40fps minimum, 70fps average at 2560x1600. Not too shabby but to run the game flawlessly at 30", dual graphics are going to be needed in some form.
A GTX285 by comparison is likely to score something like 34fps minimum, 60fps average at 2560x1600.
Using the data provided by GameGPU.RU, I've drawn up some 'thresholds' that would be a much better version of the minimum requirements printed on the box for games. It's too large to print here, so I will submit it to pastebin instead:

Looks good Sam. As always appreciate the charts they do help out ;P
I couldn't have expected much more. Bioshock 2 is based on the same Unreal 2.5 build as Bioshock 1. They still haven't jumped it to UE3. It looks good though I was never a huge fan of the original. I much prefer military shooters vs stretched out philosophical journeys. I played and beat the first though so I'm almost obligated to continue the story :P

Although I wouldn't say it's the best game I've played, I enjoyed the original Bioshock and am eager to play the next one. The last time I tried, however, Bioshock was hopelessly incompatible with Crossfire, so I'm hoping that doesn't extend to the sequel...

Interesting as Bioshock works great for me with Crossfire :S
On another note I discovered the ancient(circa 2001) Mech Warrior 4. How did I miss this game? It's the best mech simulator I've ever played! I mean WTF the game is incredibly fun! Rediscovering old games lately. GT3 is still my current addiction :S
