Sadly, memory prices have increased substantially. DDR2 used to be the mainstream memory type. However, when DDR3 took over with the recent advent of AM3 AMD systems, and Core i5 and i7 systems for Intel, demand for DDR2 plummeted, but there was massive supply. It was priced cheaply to sell all the excess stock, and production was massively ramped back - this is why memory was so cheap for a while. Now that DDR2 production is very low, it costs more than it did before the price cut, therefore the prices have been increased substantially. The same thing happened to DDR1 when DDR2 was popularised.
I can't say that 800mhz will be compatible with your system. Many of the oldest DDR2 systems that came with 400 or 666mhz memory only supported a maximum of 666. You could try using Corsair's memory compatibility checker to see what it comes up with:

Well, just ran a 3dmark06 with everything stock, IM client still open etc. Just to get a baseline:
I daresay that's not bad for an all-stock system :)
The CPU score (again, remember there are IM clients open) is 4330. Consider that a 4.93Ghz E8500 got 4338.

I'm in love :D
Took a while to get on her feet, but now in windows is running pretty well. It's too difficult to draw a tangible conclusion about how it runs when you're looking at upgrades of this sort of magnitude, I keep wondering if it's a placebo or not. Suffice to say though that Left 4 Dead 2 ran as well as it normally does before the overclock, so afterwards should be nice. It's worth remembering that there's only 16x worth of PCIe bandwidth at play here too.

I can't find my motherboard model in the corsair website. If anyone is willing to help me determine whether the Corsair XMS 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (2x2048MB) ram is compatible to my system or not, I listed my motherboard for everyone to see. Guys, I badly need your verification on this one coz I just ordered one today :\
My Motherboard:
Manufacturer - ASUSTek Computer INC.
Model - LIMESTONE 1.04
Chipset - Intel i945G/GZ (Rev. - A2)
Soutbridge - Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R)
LPCIO - SMSC

Very very true. But surprisingly - there were some guys on the U.S. team that had kill ratios even higher than that - and of course guys that were getting killed right and left, lol. It wasn't exactly a total rape - but definitely the best team I've played on for quite a while.
Originally posted by estuansis: It gets really intense when you have a good chopper pilot(like myself) and a full size squad of friends who know eachother. We've all piled on and made a precision drop on their artillery site. The chopper lifts off to circle and cover the squad with the mini-guns. After the explosives are set I drop back in and pick up the whole squad. Then as we are leaving the special forces guys detonate the C4. It's especially satisfying when you get away with everyone alive and even have time to RTB and repair and heal before doing it all over again.
Holy moly Jeff - you guys take it to a whole new level - even beyond that chinese team I was on.
So for how long does the artillery stay destroyed? That would be lovely - a break from that pounding "artillery death from above" on top of the normal hell from tv guided missiles and bomb runs.
Look for the servers that require mics? Sounds like a great idea. I'll try to increase my sophistication level on BF2 and learn from you. No kidding - what a great game!
Originally posted by jeff again: I alternate between a designated transport chopper pilot for my clan(piloting with a Saitek X45 HOTAS) and special forces if we have too many open slots.
Wow - you're in a clan. Man! So you're talking about the big helicopter with the mini guns on each side - right? I was always trying to get guys to jump on with me piloting, but invariably found myself piloting alone - sometimes I pressed F2 or F3 and manned one of the guns, but then the unpiloted helicopter starts spinning around - so usually I just go parachute out, before some jet or attack helicopter blows me up.
I'll be back on the forum here in a few days, but next time I game, I'm taking the whole weekend off. Not sure when that will be - I'm REALLY trying to get the real estate started......
Originally posted by sam: We did tell you so, several times over... :P
..... especially since Sam keeps rubbing it in that I'm still stuck on the P4. LOL :D
I might put that gaming weekend off for a few weeks. I have it pencilled in on the calendar for the first of March, but I'm not sure I can hold out that long. Hahaha.

That page tells you what you need to know - your PC supports up to PC5300 speed memory, i.e. 667mhz, no higher.

oh crap. So it only supports up to PC5300 eh? What will happen then if I put the PC6400 (the one that I just purchased)? Will it not work at all? Or at least work but I won't get the full capacity of 4GB? Should I just return it and get a refund???
In addition, I found out that I'm only running 32-bit. That sucks.

In deed. My Pavilion 7905 (a7m266- ASUS) supposedly only supports UP TO ddr 2100, but I'm running 2700. It's max is also supposedly only 1gb, but it's supporting 2gb. Though the bios, or some memory tool I once used said that it's max is 2gb. Thats why I went with 2gb :) If you're lucky, a manufacturer will underrate their equipment :D Though Its not the Thunderbird anymore. Its a Palomino XP 2100. Which is its max I believe. Though I also accidentally ran a Thoroughbred processor :S

nothing wrong with the GTS250. solid card.
one thing is that l4d is source based, meaning CPU bottleneck, esp the P4 you have will be very big.

On top of that it can also be ATI-biased for performance. This won't prove an issue for the GTS250 overall, but if L4D is the game you play most, you would have been much better off with the HD4850.
Left 4 Dead 2 isn't amazingly demanding on the CPU, but a single core CPU is likely to struggle with any modern game. L4D2 is just one example, and a relatively benign example at that.

Possibly, but he's either using low settings or lagging. My HD4830 just about coped with L4D on high at 2560 but with no AA, fps around 40 average often dropping to 25-30. The HD3850's half as powerful.
