yeah i know, but every search comes up with anomalies not pertinent to the equipment i'm using. I don't have a starview box, as one search came up with, or any of the other models of eurobox, and neither do i live in the areas that the other search resutls came up with, so the nagra codes will be of no use.
I've read the rules, stickys, etc etc etc, and most of it is in a pre-determined language that assumes you know what a null modem is or any other of the words used that are equally confusing.
Sometimes it's easier to throw out a line and hope someone helpful will give you some advice rather than just give you a blindfold, advance you back to go, and let you get on with it.
I know it makes running the site more difficult for the mods, i appreciate that, but when you're as thick as i am sometimes this is the only way to do it.
Can you appreciate that?

Longer retort than your original query.
This forum is about your equipment as you have a Eurovox. All the codes are here for all of the UK and Ireland.
So based on your original query I have said have a look around first and if you cannot find any answers then post back and we will be happy to help.
Your query stated that you had a problem on some channels. What are they? Also what are your general location and provider details? And what version/model Eurovox is it and what firmware revision is on it at the moment?

yeah, i did look about before you assumed i hadn't. Lots of conflicting stuff there - but i am easily confused so sorry if i've missed something.
I have a eurovox max box, with feb 07 software on it as far as i know. Not sure about firmware. I have downloaded the dnup thing from a eurovox sale-page on ebay. No idea what that is, but i'm led to believe that i will need it to 'flash' the box? I have no parallel ports on my computer, only usb, and i'm also led to believe that there are two kinds of rs232 leads, and i'll need to know which one, and i also need a null modem lead, but there also seems to be more than one kind of those?
I'm on cable with Virgin on a basic pack in the Leeds area. I have just rescanned the box from the lead coming from the splitter that the engineer put in, the other lead going to my cable modem. I removed the other splitter which also connected my old ntl box as this seems to have scanned better, with some of the problem channels being ok now (got that info off here). There are still some channels that are pixellating (if that's the right word). I'm now watching the EV box with the original cable and swapping to the other box if i need to watch the channels not working properly.
Everything has been fine since Feb, with rescans sorting out any loss of signal. But when this eventually did happen some channels were jittery and/or missing on the ntl box.
The channels that seem to be having the most trouble are most of the UKTV channels, but what i'm most concerned about is that i'm viewing this box now with the original cable not from a splitter. If i could get back to how it was i'd be much happier.
Hope this helps and thanks for getting back to me.

No problem now thats what I call a detailed query.
Can you press menu, config and system info and tell me what it says please. How long have you had this box as there are clone versions and I need to know if yours is genuine or a clone before I can help you.
If you go to the link at the end of my post entitled SV EV Info you will find info on clone boxes to help you decide.

right i see. ok here goes;
Model: DVB-XC BOX
S/W Ver: 1.0 SSC4 Feb 14 2007
H/W Ver: 2.0 Feb 14 2007
Bootstrap: v001
Website: -----
I've just realised i've had it since the 15th June, not feb as i previously said - that was the software thing.
From what i can gather from the black switches and the brightness of the red light, it may be a clone, but from the serial number on the bottom i can't tell either way.
thanks again

From your info I can tell it is a 2006 model with the Feb firmware on it. Bad news is if it is a clone you cannot update the firmware on it as this will kill the box. The best way to confirm is to open up the box but as you said you can see the tell tale signs either way and if you got it in June it has a good chance of being a clone.
It has been reported that the problem transponders are at 131.000Mhz, 531.000Mhz, 539.000Mhz, 571.000Mhz, 579.000Mhz & 587.000Mhz. So my recommendation would be to get a variable booster and plug it direct to the incoming feed and then send it to your box then.
If VM are working in your area and they probably are as there is work going on with their new channel this could also affect your channels you can check here for maintenace in your area http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do and if so it may settle on its own accord.

oh dear. so as things stand, with a lot of the channels working but not all, am i wise to be watching it off the main cable splitter or should i just wait until i get a genuine box?
This variable booster, do i plug it into the main feed beforethe main splitter? Is there a model type i should ask for?
sorry, old and stupid

The best one you can get at the moment is this one http://www.beststuff.co.uk/konig_amp-pro30.htm but as I said it may settle itself if not try the booster then.

I think your problem is the fact that your box already has already been flashed and the patch will not load to your box as it is the same H/W version.

Yep but it is still does not look like the critical update as it should have a September timestamp on it, as said I have seen this happen on a few people's attempt to upgrade from June firmware to the September update. So fingers crossed.

Yes you can but it will essentially turn it into a red box. I have the black tsop on test at the moment and will post it in a day or two.

As definitions go tsop means, Thin Small Outline Package - a common plastic package for IC's, particularly memory.
