Whats your thoughts on non-conductivity liquid for cooling PC's? Obviously it sounds like a VERY logical means for what people like us are trying to achieve LOL! I'm really afraid of a leak in a liquid cooled system. But if its non conductive...
P.s. Im aware that debris in the case can easily allow leaked fluid to become conductive. E.g. Dust, metallic fragments, etc.
I used Feser 1 coolant in my setup, was all that sam says, but it did leak, all over my PCI slot, but guess what that slot still worked after :).
id go for feser 1 if i were you.
Feser One was also the coolant nick used, and in his case it didn't. That was less a drip, more a gush though (pipe came off)

Rob, my troubles with windows 7 have been very minimal. The majority of my problems have been printer support. But I downloaded the 64bit drivers from epsons site, and vualah! Though you won't be able to use the twain driver (Scanning utility). That unfortunately as far as I know requires a dedicated catered driver for windows 7. I imagine that epson is working on that. Any questions regarding printers in windows 7, feel free to ask. Ive tangled with it a substantial amount LOL! MS Paint on windows 7 has a built in scanning utility that works VERY VERY well for me. Im quite impressed by it! :D

Rob,
As it turned out i didn't need any special drivers for XP 64 bit to install, except the HD Audio and the 64 bit drives from nVidia. According to what I read about installing you can not install the 64 bit if there's another operating system on the computer. You have to install 64 bit first, and then any other OS for dual boot. It will still work, but I had a whole bunch of issues with it. Once I installed 64 bit by itself, things that didn't work before, like DVD Rebuilder and Nero, now work!
I also want to give the XP-Pro SP3 Black Edition a try as well. Here's some screens of it. I have the ISO for it, only I'm out of blank CDs at the moment! LOL!! Have to wait until the 10th of next month!

I have the unattended version, so it requires no Key number to be installed! Looks pretty neat!

not sure what is ment by duel boot here.
i have a 100gb hdd that has the XP PRO 64bit on it and a 500gb hd that has XP PRO 32bit on it. i have the 100gb set as primary hdd so it boots off of it. there is no other OS no that hdd.
when you say duel boot do you mean 2 OS on the same hdd? or 2 OS in the same case on different hdd??
I, myself just hate dealing with a OS more tha nanything in the world. id rather goto a boston redsox game than mess with a OS install. guess thats why my patients with it is so short..lol

Rob,
That's probably the problem then. 64 bit XP-Pro has to be the first operating system installed, and then you can install, not add others. It will not work right if you have another OS already installed. The reason I'm 100% certain is because after I had so much trouble with it I did some hunting around on the net, and it's in the FAQ at M$! for 64 bit windows!
Don't be picking on Boston. It's a great place to go see a ballgame! I've even been to a couple of World Series games there! Against Cincinnati, if I remember rightly! LOL!! Games 6 & 7 at Fenway in 75! Game 7 was greatest game I ever saw, and being from the New York area, I saw more than my share of good games. I was at the Polo Grounds and saw Willie mays make "The Catch" against Vic Wertz in the 54 series when I was 10! Actually the catch wasn't as spectacular as the throw in, to double up the runner! Center field was so deep, at over 450 feet that they used to store the batting cage out there!
I was also in Yankee Stadium in 56 when Don Larson pitched the only perfect game ever in a World Series!

Rob,
Do you not have a secondary or even a third system you can install Windows 7 on? I like what windows 7 has to offer A LOT! I still haven't seen everything it has to offer either. It continues to impress me. The lack of printer support just makes me shrug, "Oh well"! Every printer manufacturer has their own coding. That really can't be helped. I don't recommend installing it on your primary system yet though. That is if you do as much printing as I do :) There are still some bugs to be worked out, that WILL no doubt be worked out when Epson releases their catered driver for Windows 7. At least for their Scanning Utility!!! General printing seems to be ok. But if you wanna print discs, or other printer specific stuff...
There are other work a rounds for disc printing :) I am aware of at least one tactic for the epson printers. Anybody feel free to Pm me if they're curious.
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

Rob,
You can't have any operating system on the computer at all! Not even on another drive connected to the computer. You can do dual boot, say xp64 and xp32, but xp64 has to be installed first before you can install, not add, an additional OS!

I never thought I would say it, but apart from the stability and memory usage, I prefer Vista to 7, it does so much more! Why they removed so many features in vista from windows 7 baffles me. It's like using the demo version of an OS... I'm not TOO concerned about printer drivers, as my printer in York was built into windows as far back as XP with no service packs, since it's 10 years old :P - My newest printer is the oldest I've ever owned, and yet it's also the best... weird.

Impressive results - certainly for the PC6400. However, I can get to 3.91Ghz and pass Linpack, but it certainly ain't stable, so obviously pinch of salt with linpack tests. Assuming you're still running pretty low chipset voltages to get that speed.
In other news,

Damn, if I had that much money in my account I'd probably buy that sharpish and make arrangements to sell the 9550 - I really want to have a go at C2Q clocking with no FSB barriers, and the 9770 is even better than the 9650 to do it with.

actually in the bios the vcore is set at 1.32v and running at 1.29v so yea kinda low id say. it just finished OCCT and passed its 1 hr test. going to run PR95 now prolly ofr the next couple hrs
what makes the extreme CPUs much better than the reg?

Sam,
I've had a Brother HL-1250 for about 5 years now that I bought used for $25 with an extra high capacity toner cartridge included. I've been through a lot of reams of paper since then, and I'm still on the second toner cartridge that came with it, and I've printed thousands of pages with it since. The regular cartridge that was in it when I bought it is supposed to be good for about 3000 pages and the high capacity one that came with it is good for about 6000 pages.
Your HP is a real workhorse, and incredibly still sells for almost as much as it cost when new (about $130). Typically you see them for over $100 used at Amazon or Ebay! It's a very good printer, and fast at 17 ppm! If I remember right, yours is a Network printer as well! You got a good deal!

Exactly why I bought it, prints over ethernet to everyone in the house. By the way, I don't think they were anywhere near $130 when new in 1998/1999. The £55 I paid was a bargain in my mind, the high capacity toners can be had for about £27-£30 official (same sort of price as official high capacity cartridges for some inkets) and are good for 10,000 pages at 5% coverage. Mine occasionally says toner low but hasn't started to get into low quality yet, not bad considering the toner was a leftover, not part of the deal!

Sam,
I got the price of it from a review of it from way back when it was new. CNET I think! Could have been a typo or it could have been a later review. No date on it! The pricing was from $130 to $255.

Sam,
True, but you are talking "Gamer" stable, and not everyone is a gamer! Most people that don't play games don't seem to have stability problems! I think a lot of that has to do with all the special video drivers you guys use for games, more than the overall stability of the machine. I would also like to note that I've seen stability issues after 8-12 hours of passing OCCT or Orthos, but I've never had any stability issues at all if it passed Linpack! Not even Foldin at home!

Not gamer stable russ, windows cursor stops moving on the desktop and system turns off unstable, yet it will still pass linpack. No one stress test guarantees system stability.

Sam,
While that's true, I still think the special video drivers for certain games still have something to do with that problem! I know that lockups like you describe have never happened to me yet. All I ever got was a reset while processing Video files with DVDRB/CCE, and non completed work units with FAH! The only time I ever saw the issue you mentioned was during overclocking while trying to establish limits!

i agree with what both of you are saying and see each side for everything its worth. in all reality is there such thing at total stability in a custom built rig like we have?????
Russ
right before i swapped out my mem i got the crucial mem to pass linpack IBT at 3.8ghz but i ran prime and OCCT and about 12mins in on each of those it failed??? that has been the only time i passed IBT and failed other stress test.

Given all the variables involved, it's amazing that computers are as stable as they are. Mine's been running for the last 5 days, and I only rebooted once because an AVG upgrade required it! Not so much as a hiccup despite doing everything from downloading Torrents to Playing FC2! Hardware and software compatibility has come a long way in the last 20 years!

Since even my array of graphics cards runs on pretty much an identical driver to your OBG does, I'm not going to accept that. On top of all this, I once experimented with overclocking with no graphics driver installed, just the default windows one, to the exact same effect. The cause of it is chipset instability. CPU instability manifests itself differently.
A totally stable system would be my file server, it's all stock and runs XP Pro 32-bit with no random applications, and is very rarely graphically accessed other than to run filezilla. I've seen uptimes on it of up to about 16 days. This is the E4300 - back when I had it at 3.15Ghz in my P35C-DS3R with an X1900 I had it stable for at least a period of about a month without any crashes etc.

I guess we will all find out when I get the UD4P and see how the x2 7750 overclocks without the OBG!
