does anyone else have lower printout quality on TY 8x dvdrs (white hub printables)? i mean, it doenst come out "bad" but the maxell cdrs come out incredible, but lately these tys come out of the printer looking not so well..this may be just a bad batch, i did have to return 24 flawed discs so maybe thats the case? im not complaining and i dont plan on switching media im just curious if other users with experience in other printable media have better results, if i should just chalk it up to a bad batch or should i keep tyrin to tweak the printer ..(im using the epson 320 by the way)

Your posts made me a TY convert, although I still use AZO Verbs.
as do I dr_no, as you can see by my sig, i DO IN FACT highly recommend the Verbatim AZO media as well~ :) naturally, i use more Taiyo Yuden than i do Verbatim, but that does NOT make my opinion of Verbs any worse~ :) they are RIGHT UP THERE AT ThE ToP w/ TYs~ :)

@maxburn

yeah, your "guesstimate" is pretty close, i do start to panic once i'm down to a few hundred TYs...but, that hasn't happened in a VERY long time~ :)

@arniebear

Personally, I think the distributors all read AD and know we keep recommending +R's and jack up the price, lol.
HAHAHAAHA i was thinking along those lines too, but dilligaf9's logic makes sense...or it might be a combination of your 2 theories...the DEMAND from AD suggesting DVD+R to users, results in a shortage of SUPPLY from manufacturers so they just raise the price :) i agree with both of you~

@bauerv15

i honestly can't answer your question as it's been AGES since i've burned a CD :) while Taiyo Yuden's quality control is tops ACROSS THE BOARD, whether it be CD media or DVD media...you can believe that their CD products are VERY HIGH quality...as to whether they last longer and are "better" than Prodisc, Ritek, etc. i don't have enough experience with CD media in general to give you a FACTUAL reply~ :)

@ThyDemise

while i have the Epson R300m inkjet printer, it's also been quite awhile since i've burned and printed onto any inkjet printable TYs (i mainly use the silver non-hub printables because i personally prefer them over the white hub printables for that holographic look..just a matter of taste) :) i haven't really tried THAT many other inkjet printable discs, so i won't give you a false sense of security by proclaiming that TY printables have the "best" printing surface out there...that simply could NOT be true~ but, when you are actually COMPARING between 2 or 3 different kinds/brands of inkjet printables...what matters MORE to you? the quality of the video/data that you have burned on there? or the printed surface?
i for one would take the QUALITY backup over the way my cd/dvd "looks" on the surface, sometimes we have to compromise GReAT quality media with a somewhat lack-luster printing surface...or on the other side of the fence, CRAPPY quality burn with a beautiful surface that is perfect for printing...it's all about COMPROMISE~ :)

Well judging from the fact that everytime I visit the retail stores the stock of +R's and MIJ's are all gone and the MIT's are always left, I figure there must be a lot of people keeping up with media from this site. Since I started on this forum over a year ago, the pickins seem to be slimmer. It is a credit to you DocTY you have educated everyone. Lol, too well now I got to really hunt for the good stuff.

LOL arniebear,

i share the wealth as you say too~ :)

i'm sick of arguin in THAT "other" thread...waste of my time...since when did a media discussion turn into a religious debate over MY code of ethics and/or beliefs~ :P

a "blanket" statement is exactly what is happening over there, a person ASSUMES that he knows everyone's "human nature" down to a "science"...whatevers...i have slighty more original dvds than thou possess, but AD is NOT a bragging forum in my eyes...the FACT that i am NOT a carpenter will reveal the 2nd fact that the "home-made bookshelves" that i attempted to build in my dedicated home theater room are honestly, laughable~ LOL

they DO hold MOST of my originals (i built up 3 sides of the room from floor to ceiling with my special "shelving system", leaving only 1 wall empty where the door resides~) :P it's too bad i'm not a "woodsman" or else i could have something NICE in terms of shelving....it's all about COMPROMISE..i make due with what i have and what i am, or in this case NOT, capable of~

have a good one my friend...i'm DONE with that thread...let the admins deal with it accordingly, i don't come to AD to instigate flame wars about morality/politics/beliefs/religion or anything along those lines, if i wanted to do that, i would have joined a CULT of some sort~ :)

I agree, it is not a question of what one has or does not have, too Marxian. Who am I to judge the moral character of those I do not know, that is a higher power's job. All we can do is just give our advice and hope it helps. It does not matter what someones username is that is their business, they choose it for their own reasons. We all come together on this forum cause we share the same hobby/passion/addiction. We have laughs and share that is what the forum is, if it degenerates to flaming we all loose. I have had my say on the thread. I hate subjective statements, too biased. You too have a good one Doc, forget about the other BS because that is all it is. I spent too long in college debate, too let it go but now I too am finished with the thread.

a quick answer then back on topic kapish. It's all good, even got my DVI cable. Digital all the way. Sounds most excellent especially DTS. I can't really take full advantage since I live in an apartment and my neighbor right next door is a catholic nun. Very nice lady and has never complained yet. I've even asked her but that was before I got the surround system.

Most excellent picture quality with the DVI cable. HD and digital channels never looked better. I wonder why they don't have that for your set top dvd players so you could go digital video as well as digital audio. Back to TY's. Don't forget to include verbatim in your excellent media discussions once in a while.

I just got done with LOTR trilogy extended versions. There are 2 dvd9's for each movie (actually 4 if you include the extras) but I combined them with dvdremake and then encoded them with dvd rebuilder pro/cce making 4 passes and burned them onto verbatim DL dvd's with imgburn. The folders were between 14.1 gb and 14.4 gb prior to encoding. There were parts that you could tell the compression was a little excessive but not real noticable and they all played back flawlessly. No freezing or pausing even at the layor break. OK so sorry, back to the topic.

Doc, i totally agree with you and like i already stated i have no intentions on switching media nor am i complaining, all im curious to is basically is it the disc itself that gives slightly lower print quality or would it be a case of the printer not being set up good enough. that is all, i really dont mind the way they look but seeing that i dont plan on using any other brand if theres a way to improve it on my end, why not? and if there isnt, then no big deal im more than happy with TY media ...

ThyDemise,

I personally feel that the verbatim hub printables look better than the ty's. They are both good quality media and about the only difference I can see is the quality of the pritable surface. I'm not trying to steer you away from ty's but you can find verbatim hub printables at most good online media retailers. I usually find the best prices for my verbatim datalifeplus DVD+R hub printables at amazon.com

Mort,
You just called it right, that is the reason I'm mixing the Yudens with the Verbs. Verbs for hub and white inkjet the TY for the silver non hub.

Being in the UK I have been able to get Plextor YUDEN000T03 and Verbatim TYG02. The Plextor DVD+R are without exception excellent but I have had problems with the Verb DVD-R: at least every other disc burns fine but when scanned shows large amounts of PIEs and PIFs at the edge of the disc. If you examine some unburned discs under strong light you can clearly see speckles at the edges which are the likely culprit. This might explain why in UK terms they are cheaper then the unbranded TY. But more expensive or not next time I get TYG02s I'm getting unbranded.

I use only dvd+r's (I booktype all my burns dvd-rom) and have never had any problems with the verbatim MCC media except where the fault was mine or in one case where it was a hardware issue.

I "3" have never had probs w/ MCC Verbatims, that were NOT my own fault of course...yes, i've made coasters before, but it was MY OWN DOING...lol

i can totally believe that the Verbatim hub inkjet printables have a nicer surface for printing on them, i've never burned on them MYSELF, but i was given 2 backups on the printable datalifeplus Verbs from my cousin who made me his wedding video on them...naturally, he made a "custom cover" with his ugly mug and his pretty wife right there on top..it turned out great~ :0 the quality of the video as well as the cover were very good by the naked eye and upon closer inspection when compared to my OWN TY printables, i must admit, his looked a lot nicer, despite his face being on the one he gave me and i had angelina jolie on mine~ :)

keep the good info coming fellas...this thread is quite interesting w/ such a diverse array of opinions and preferences~ good day to you all

Well I can't make a comment on printables since I don't have a printer that does it. I will take everyones word on the quality though since it comes from impeccable sources. The only way mine will get coverart is if I take all my colored sharpies and try an artistic endeavor, lol.

I 2nd that notion~ :) actually my wife takes all my colored sharpies and doodles on a lot of my backups, i buy a lot of those "girly" movies for her, ie. serendipity, in her shoes, a lot of the various Lindsey Lohan flicks, etc... :)

she understands why i keep the originals stored away safely in my bookcases, so she draws ALL over my backups for her to take back home and watch w/ her family and friends~

anyways, my experience with inkjet printable media is pretty limited compared to the other guys on here...but, i have a few...i was in my Jolie stage for awhile and every printable backup i made i plastered her pic on there for the fun of it...LOL...kinda hard to figure out which was which when i was digging through a binder with similar artcovers on all of them~ ;)

colored sharpies ROCK~! hand in hand with TY's silver shiny/ silver lacquer discs~
