I know this may sound redundant and stupid, but I am a newbie to burning games. I need to ask a few questions about this. I have the thin ps2, do I need a mod chip to play back up games? And the second question is, I downloaded Dragon Quest VIII's ISO for a torrent and wanted to know if I should use this guide to make it into a game, if not then what should I do? Please don?t bash me too hard about the questions I just asked. Thank you guy!

I have slim ps2 with swap magic 3.6 and a flip top. It super easy to instal, and i've yet to find a US title that can't be made to work. Obviously a mod chip is better and easier, but if you don't have the skills to instal it (or don't know anyone who can) swap magic works great. I'd suggest buying the swap magic and flip top combo (magic keys suck). You can buy it at www.gocybershop.ca (they ship out of the US and Canada). Make sure you get the flip top for your specific model. email them if you are unsure. Good luck.

you shouldn't need it... with gnie's program. "gnies iso rebuilder tool"

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/269550

but new versions come with either fixed bugs or added features.
if you've already got the old version, and it's working for you..
you may not need the newer one.. but you could always try it out.

could you paste a link for it, though? sounds like it could be a handy tool..

and if anyone has a link for a iml2iso program... mine ain't workin.. usin' gnie, but i've got a couple games with dummy files...unless you know how to fix that using gnie.

Hi all

So no new methods for backing up GT$ have been developed then ?

Its such a tricky title to back up. I hope CDVD Gen can develop a simple systen to back up this title.

I just burned Dragon Quest VIII and I am having 2 problems. One, I have to start the game in NTSC mode, and every time I select Normal the screen flutters and it is in black and white and if I select NTSC a small portion of my screen is cut off at the bottom, why is this. Two, I use to own this game and I have it saved it on my memory card but my new back game will not read it and I have to start a new game. Is there a way to continue play my old game or do I have to just start all over?

alandusj:

hmmpph. make sure you have the newest version of swap disc... that SHOULD clear up the NTSC thing.

and about the memory card thing...

???

i have heard that some games' memory function totally goes away after burning. who knows why??

i know that i have issues with my copy of Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.. I can't play the included arcade version of Mortal Kombat II that is on it. I'm thinking because it's a disc image embedded as a file. Like the floppys to boot windows discs on service packs are... so when i rip my discs, i use isobuster, and look at the files to see if i have images in there. like Nero files or whatever, then i know if there will be a risk with functionality.

but gnie has a re-linker?? hm.

Have you tried to just burn the image you downloaded via the bit-torrent? Odds are in favor that whoever hosted that file has already done the rebuilding necessary for playing that game. In other words, it's obvious that rebuilding a game normally shrinks the image size, thus, it's quicker to upload and host the file. I'm looking at this from my point of view as a bit-torrent seeder (one that hosts files for sharing).
Every game image I've downloaded has worked by just burning it. In some cases, I did use Windip on the downloaded image to employ a new DNAS ID code for online play.

not to tread, but i think alandusj copied his original, since he said his copy won't reckognize his original game save.

but you download and burn... i have sucessfully done this twice.
i have a question for you, if you have an answer.

how do you re-combine image files? some games i try to download are like, fifty or more files that have to be combined into one image. how is this done sucessfully?

that guide is cool easy to follow ... but didn't helped me by my problem I have right now. I want to rebuild a ISO too to get the boot(messedup)loader away (the one from jayteemaster in french with the pal ntsc fix) out of the disc.
The thing why I want to get it away is ... my son or I can't see the screen of the game. The lower part is missing we can't read press start just the upper parts of the letters. In the Game Menu it is hard to follow what the people read there.

Anyone an idea what file it is and how I can remove it?

Help would be fine.

Thanks FroGEater

Im going through the Sonix 2005 GT4 single layer backup tutorial and have had a problem.

When i run PSSdown i get the following error message

Component 'MSCOMCT2.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

I have put ACTIVESKIN.OCX into my Windows\System32\ folder but i still keep getting the error.

Please can somebody help me!

hi, i was just wondering how people think that this information for backing up gt4 PAL version actually works, as i have tried this way and it doesnt work...what i dont understand is that when extracting the iso is doesnt extract the 2nd layer so how can it produce a working copy when it has completly left this out.....the final size after the rebuild is 3.07 and does not work as it boots and detects as a ps2 disc but doesnt load up......
i am using ritek go5 media burning with decrypter and reading
burning at 4x speed
i have a chipped ps2 that auto loads so no swapping involved.
i have done several backups with no problems but only single layer versions.

i have ripped this game using other method but it still fails to run as it freezes about 3mins after bootup.....

i am in australia so it is an australian PAL version(if there are different PAL versions)..

if anyone has any insight to this please help as i am sick of burning coasters...

cheers

Hello to all. Great forum. I recently get matrix infinity in my machine ver 5. I dont understund all this i did read here in forum before making my first post. I just backed my metal gear solid 3 game on DVD-R and it works nice. Then again I have this problem i couldnt put book type dvd-rom no matter what. I tried first with Nero after with DVD Decrypter but with no luck. What did I do wrong? Can it be my burning device? With Nero when clicked on options I get two options buffer underrun protection and DVD high compatibility mode can it be that my version of Nero is to old. Thanking for any answers. Best regards
