I just started using dvd-rb and cce and I am having a problem that I have been unable to figure out on my own. When I back up dvds the audio and video stutter through the whole movie. The only areas i dont see it is in the menu. When I first started using rb I had no problem then on something like my 4th movie I got this problem. My current setup is
DVD-rb ver .62
AVI synth 2.5
CCE 2.69
DVD Decrypter 3.5
DVD Remaker Pro 2.4
MPEG2Dec3dg 1.0
Nero 6.3.1.25
The computer I am using mainly for it is a Dell 9100 laptop with winxp home SP1
CPU Pent 4 with HT @ 2.8 GHz
512 Ram
I set up rb according to the guide on this site and downloaded all the files execpt for CCE from DOOM9 forum for rb. The way I back up a dvd is I use decrypter to make a copy of the disc on my hd where I then run dvdremaker to remove all of the junk I dont want which leaves me with only the movie and the menu. After that I sometimes run it thru DVD Shrink to remove the audio tracks I dont want but this dosnt seem to have an effect on the outcome. After that I then run it thru rb and CCE. At first I thought maybe it was a DTS problem but it didn't make a difference when I removed it. I dont use my comp when it is going thru any of these steps so I dont think that would be a prob. I have tried different media including -R and +R from various manufactures including Ritek and Taiyo Yuden so I dont think that is the problem. I just recently(lastnight)reinstalled winxp on my comp and this didnt help. I have tried different dvd players one of which is a panasonic that is labled on the box to play dvd-r and dvd-ram.
A few other things that have something to do with this is I do my backups to an external harddrive connected thru either firewire or usb. I have tried to do the backup to the hd on my comp with no change in the outcome. I have also tried to use ReJig and QuEnc and they both still give me the same outcome. When I do a backup that dosnt need compresion or if I use shrink instead of rb they play just fine. If I play the bad disc on either of my computers they play just fine. I dont know what else I can try other then going back to shrink which I dont want to do since the quality sucks compared to rb and cce. Some of the movies I have tried recently include Shade, Secret Window, and Paycheck. If you have any other questions about my setup ask, I will do the best to answer them. I would have put this post on the doom9 boards but since they have a 5 day wait I couldn't do it yet.

Were you using Remake with each attempt? Have you tried to do a backup with a Transcoder such as DVD Shrink? Having a sound problem doesn't sound like RB/CCE.
Sound skipping problems usually but not always points to low quality media but you 've eliminated that. If you're using Remake that could also cause an audio skipping problem and RB is unforgiving of bad Remake editing.
Try a backup without Remake, slow the speed of your burn, and if possible make a backup using another software such as DVD Shrink.

block134 ,
First no need to post your question elsewhere. There are a lot of DVD-RB pro's here. Sadly, I am not one of them (Perhaps in time).
Question:
Have you processed a movie through DVD-RB that was not modified in one way or another. Just ripped using DVD Decryptor. Has it played okay at this point? You have multiple varibles in your problem.

When I get home from work I will try an unalterd movie and let you know how it works. Also dvd shrinks works just fine for backups after I use remake. The stuttering is not just audio but video as well. The audio could be caused by my stero reciver, when it loses a signal or is changing audio formats it cuts out. This may be why the audio is bad but when I watch a movie it seems like it skips every other frame of video and when it does this is when I lose the audio.

DVD Shrink will forgive what will stop RB in its tracks. I once butchered a movie using Remake and it too skipped which is why it was my first question. Give it a try without and by the way there's a Remake guide here at AD.

Give it a shot and let us know. I have read several post where DVDRemake gave DVD-RB problems. This does not include the problems I caused my self with DVDRemake.

I have had this problem periodically when I burn to fast. If I burn the same files at a lower speed it usually fixes it.
Did you have angles to strip on the movie with the problem?

It sounds like AviSynth problems. Try opening one of the AVS files in the working directory. You should be able to play it with a media player.

The working directory is the D2VAVS output file. If you don't find your problem after playing an AVS file, post your information log found in the Rebuilder folder.

@Sophocles and Gnomex
I tried a backup of a movie with no changes to it what so ever (full disc backup) and it seems that the new disc works fine. I havent watched the whole movie yet so there could still be problems. When I get home from work I will watch the movie and try a few others tonight that I had problems with. If remaker is the problem is there any advice to make it work better or are there any programs that will do the same thing and work better with rb. Thanks for all the help you all have given me so far.

You should be able to do minor editing in Remake without a problem...which means "Hide Blocks" of previews and warnings, etc. I once had a similar problem because I went without defragging my hard drive for too long. I'd suggest you check your HDD, and give it another try. AT least now you know that you can make a good backup without changes.

Read Vurbals guide and subscribe to his remake thread. DVD's are complicated and for us to mess with them we need to know their structure.

Hey all,
I've been following Vurbals guide (very informative!)
But I'm running into a hitch while trying to re-encode the new starwars trilogy.
Rebuild encodes fully (error free) and the final product is an appropriate size of 4.3GB.
Now, when I dump the files into powerdvd, the playback is jumpy, sometimes still jittery images, or perfectly fine at other parts but suffering a slight audio desync (noticable more at certain parts than others).
Has anyone else experienced this and or have a suggestion to correct the output?
Here's my configuration:
CCE SP 2.50 Trial (and also tried CCE SP 2.67 Trial)
DVD Rebuild V.56 (and V.62)
The Current Version of eclcce (1.81 /w support for CCE SP 2.67)
AVISynth V2.5
As far as settings, identical to Vurbals guide (with uninstall, reintall, and triple check of settings numerous times). I've encoded about 6 times now with no success.
Thanks in advance for any help possible, or a link if this has been identified previously (couldn't find anything).

You run into 2 situations here. First of all the Star Wars movies are multi angle. RB is not set up to handle multi angle movies yet. We're all anxiously awaiting that. Second is there are some issues with the CCE trial programs. Have you recorded successfully with this setup before with other movies. And why use a program (the SP trial) that leaves a watermark on the video?
I forgot to mention, ReMake is a good program used to strip the multiple angles so RB can function properly. DVD Decrypter can strip the angles, but it doesn't correct the file structure. This has been covered previously.

I'm new to DVD Rebuilder (and a fan already with the quality of the final output, unfortunately just a few hiccups)
I used IFOEdit to strip the 2 other angles (maintaining angle 1) which I'm starting to think is the issue in itself.
Right now I'm re-ripping the dvd through decrypter with the maintain angle 1 option (I've found in the past that IFOEdit can cause issues after editing original ifo files).
As far as the watermark, I'll be switching to basic shortly, $50 is well worth the quality (this is more of a test drive, before I buy).
Is there a recommended process to strip multi-angles out of a dvd?
Thankyou for the speedy response!

I put in the note which you may not have noticed. DVD Remake is a good program for working with the multiangle movies. Some special work has been done with that program to make it more compatible with RB.
If you are certain you want to go with the RB setup, then I suggest you go ahead and purchase the CCE Basic. (I haven't run across many that don't think the results are spectacular.) Having Basic Retail eliminates some of the inherent problems associated with the trials. Sound problems were among the associated problems with the trials.
It appears you could be having 2 problems at once. A problem with the sound caused by the trial and a multi angle problem. The surest bet is to go ahead and get the Basic Retail and then if you have problems go from there.

Sounds like a plan.
I'll switch up to basic this week, and look into remake (sorry, I feel like a clutz missing your point on DVDremake)
I have a feeling that switching to basic will be the best solution by the amount of posting issues usually being associated with SP Trial.
Thanks again brobear!

I would say that less than 5% of the movies have angles, however, the most effective way to remove these and the extras like warnings and previews is also DVD Remake or Remake Pro from dimadsoft.com. It is a very nice complement to RB-CCE. I also believe that once you upgrade to the retail Basic, your problems will cease.

Hi guys. OK, you all have helped me to get DVD-RB/CCE Basic to work. I just burned Pirates of the Caribbean. The video is Stunning , but in several parts, the audio cuts out very briefly. Video is affected in no way by the audio. I processed the movie thru DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink first. I finally burned it using CloneDVD 2 (which produces impressive results in my experience). Some questions for you guys: 1. What am I doing wrong? 2. Am I messing things up by processing the movie thru both Decrypter and Shrink? 3. Is there a version of DVD-RB (some say version .56 is good) that is less prone to audio dropout? Thank you!

By the way, how do y'all put spaces between sentences and make certain lines shorter than others?

Spamlover ... have you tried to run a movie through Decrypter with no mods, and process it through RB-CCE yet? Please do that with a regular length movie. Also, some movies have angles, and I don't remimber if Pirates does or not. Having angles could also be a source of problems.
Yes, you can run into problems mixing Decrypter and Shrink, and then running the files through RB-CCE. I'm surprised it didn't kick the movie out with a buffer overflow error or something. Anyway, since Shrink can rip a movie, there is no need to use Decrypter with it. So, use one or the other, or expect problems. Also, I would suggest using the latest version of Rebuilder, which I believe is now .62 (beta).
As far as your question about short sentences, and lines between them...if I am understanding the question...the Return/Enter key will do both. Also, if you want to edit a post, use the notepad icon next to the "report an offensive post" link.
