I abandoned Firefox after the absolute travesty that was 3.5. Maybe I can be tempted to use it again, but chrome suffices for now.

I can't stand Chrome, i do use it but just don't like it. FF is 100% stable for me across many machines/OSes, and i use a lot of FF's addons. Chrome is virtually barren with regards to addons/functionality, it's like using a browser from the days of the beginning of the internet, in fact ancient Netscape browsers rate higher than Chrome for me.

Quote: I abandoned Firefox after the absolute travesty that was 3.5.
Supposing you had the same stability issues as me? It crashed about 3-4 times a day for me. 3.6 seems to have fixed that though. Haven't had a single issue since the update. Not to mention the new "Personas" feature is cool as hell :)

Yeah same here. It's relatively well made, but I just don't like the interface at all. It's an absolute pain for me to use.

I wouldn't be quite so harsh, except that I also found Netscape easier to use and much more intuitive :P

More than 3-4 times a day, it crashed whenever I loaded something more content rich than google, utterly unusable.
The chrome interface is reasonable I think, it's not great because as you say, it's so barren, but on the other hand it's un-cluttered, and it performs better than any other browser I've used.

That's on an individual basis then. It only crashed for me when having more than a few tabs open, which is quite often...

LOL does the performance of our web browsers even matter at this point? You can run Crysis just about maxed at 2560 res and you're commenting on browser performance XD
I'll admit though that Firefox can be a resource hog in its own right. It commonly breaks 1GB of RAM usage for me... though part of that may have been a memory leak fixed in v3.6(also might have had something to do with the stability) because it doesn't seem to do that as often anymore.

Chrome does use a lot of RAM, but nowhere near as much as firefox. I do often keep a lot of tabs open with both, typically I can keep chrome below 1.3GB, but Firefox could easily run past 2GB if unchecked.

XP users, you might want to upgrade for newer hard drives soon:

Indeed, 4KB cluster size drives are starting to appear, the WD10EARS is the first I believe.
Not much to say about the 980X really Fred, it's out of the price range of everyone here. Although it could give some interesting info about how 6-core CPUs may perform in applications, it's not a new CPU in its own right, just a Bloomfield i7 with two extra cores. I'll reserve any judgement about how 'good' they are until the mainstream versions arrive, which won't be for some time to come (last I heard).

lol sam, thats a bit mean, who knows who can afford it?
its a typical extreme CPU, priced out of the norm, but this time there is nothing that can get to its level ont he mainstream, as there noramlly is (ala 920 and 965).
3d modelers and video guys with love 6 cores though.

I heard a rumor that a sub 500$ hexa-core will be out soon, although that doesn't really make it any much more affordable. While the 980GX might not be outside of every one's financial ability, it should be safe to assume the regular posters are all sane enough to not spend that kind of money on a cpu lol.

Here are the results. Looks like the Freezer cooler is going back on the 940 deneb. No doubt its better than the stock cooler for 965 deneb, as seen here. And once again, temp 3 is apparently the CPU temp.
The only discernible difference is the fans rpms. Which are probably not worth noting...
Please note that this is for 940 deneb, NOT to be confused with the 965 which runs wayy cooler.

That wasn't my point, I'm not saying nobody here can afford it, I'm saying nobody here is so filthily rich that they should be buying it, not the last I heard :P
As for the sub $500 CPU, that will be more interesting, as CPUs in that price range are more common. Realistically, there is a 'sweet spot' below which the sales of CPUs shoots up, which is £250, or $360.

Well...I'm about as surprised as can be. I made an attempt to access files that are on the primary, from my secondary. SUCCESS! Somehow, windows 7 corrected the problem on its own. Weird...
However, I cannot access files on the secondary, from the primary. Which doesn't bother me I suppose. Because I have EXACTLY what I wanted. My secondary should have no problem accessing BD rips from the primary now. Excellent! :D

Bigwill has one on order from microcenter for his next build.

6 cores does sound nice for some serious video encoding. the days of transcodeing will be long gone!!!!!!!
OM7 or anyone else. do you know if speed fan will work with the GA-EP45-UD3P MOBO? i know it wouldnt with my EP45-DS3R.

I'm afraid intel boards are not in my credentials LOL! One day no doubt...
It would appear the Ripbot264 uses a great deal more potential on the second pass of BD/MKV encoding(95-100%), as opposed to the first pass which averages a mere 80-90%. And since the average current quad processor can take 3-5hrs on that pass, it could be considered a decent stress stability test :D

If anyone has any opinion why the following occurs, much obliged :)
Windows 7 installs slowly on all my gigabyte boards(30min), where an MSI is smooth as a babies patootie(15min). Same/similar issue with a flash drive of mine. 16Gb Kingston Flashdrive. Recognized rapidly by the MSI Nforce board, where each Gigabyte board takes upwards of 30 seconds to recognize.
Isn't this strange? LOL!
I always did like that Nforce board. Was always smooth...

I've not seen Speedfan's fan control work on any gigabyte motherboard... ever.
Omega: It's brand, not chipset. nforce 6 board had same delay during Vista install.

Gigabyte is generally not supported by speedfan eh. Thats unfortunate. I was just starting to like speedfan again LOL!

Speedfan's not been updated properly for years. The only program that can really detect stuff properly seems tobe Everest, but it seems to leak interrupts, so it will gradually slow your PC until it hangs or BSODs unless you close it promptly.
