Thanks for the info jilt.
I've managed to get my PS2 hooked up to my laptop, but I can't access the hard drive yet - I've gotta wait for my usb hard drive enclosure to arrive('cos I can't open up my laptop).
Then I can get down to some fiddling about, lol.

I also have a question about the emulator stuff - I've searched the site suggested in the 1st post but I can't find any info about running the emulator on the hdd.
Do I somehow set it up so the emulator starts when I insert the PS1 disk, or do I run it from hd loader?

You use the ps1 disc and the exploit on the mem card. You can put your hd loader disc in a safe place after.

I'm not 100% sure I've got this right, but here goes:
I follow the instructions, but instead of BOOT.ELF being hdld_server.elf it would be whatever other .elf I want to run?
Also, I don't need to use the HDLoader (except for running Exepftp)?
Oh and I have 1 final question - is it possible to have multiple BOOT.ELFs? I'm guessing no, as from what I gather it has to be named BOOT.ELF and if you had multiple BOOT.ELFs it would cause problems when the ps1 disk 'calls' BOOT.ELF.
Is there a work around for that?

I'm having similar problems as everyone else, black screen(pissing me off) anywho i've done everything step by step in step 1 and yes i changed the config files ip address to match all the info i needed to, i've opened up port 21 on my router just in case that's the problem and also tried putting my ps2's ip into the DMZ area and nothing. When i connect with my network adapter setup disk i can ping the ps2 and get a response but when i try to run the prog from the HD it wont connect hence the black screen. I have every file in the iso in the right order and i also set the lba to 12231 so i'm purdy sure that's not the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Just use a loader elf eg Keylauncher as your BOOT.ELF when this prog loads you can then load any other elf's, named whatever you want from HDD, MEM CARD, USB etc.

AFAIK the docs say execftps 0.68 doesnt support hd advance. I'm running hd advance 2.1. has anybody got it to work somehow?? I also tried putting MODE1 and MODE2 in config.dat after the gateway address but no luck. It always tries to load ps2hdd and execftps gets stuck loading ps2hdd!! It doesnt seem to care if I put MODE1 or MODE2 in config.dat, it always says "mode: MC + HD".
What do you use with execftps? hd loader??
If somebody has a *WORKING* ISO image of execftps running on hd advance 2.1 please do host it somewhere..
Is there any more development on execftps or is it dead at version 0.68??

I have read this thread about 4 times,(senior citizen and have some moments LOL), is the purpose of this to load games onto your HDD without using HD advance(which I have) or is it to put games that are not compatabile on to the HDD?
Thanks
John

Both. I have a backup of my Jak III on my hd now. (you have to do a patch to make it work and the only way to get it on the hard drive is either opening up your comp and attaching the hd each time you get a game like this or using the lan. You can also access the memory card to put exploits on it. I got a nes emulator on it the other day. All without modding the ps2. But I think the main reason to access your ps2 via lan is because you can :) I did it more just to see if it would work. Now if only I could figure out how to get that damn SNESTATION to work.........

Hello,
It seems I am having the HDAdvance 2.1 problem where it freezes up with hdload instead of giving me the listening on port 21 phrase.
Is there any progress or could anyone set me in the right direction in order to overcome this irritating problem (which costed me two days ;))?

Problem: Running Mac OSX!
Have no PC. Virtual PC running any of the HDL apps listed will not reconize ps2hdd!!
I believe it to be because of Virtual PC.
Is there a Mac osX or UNIX based app I can use to upload to the PS2 HD from my mac?!
Everything was going so well, I thought I was going to be backin up mem cards tonight!!!

do you have a mod chip? if you do then all you have to do is burn a ps2 hd formating utility compatible with your mod chip. if not then just ftp it with the program of your choice through a basic network.

You should read the tutorial you'll find on this site but I don't think it's gonna work with hdadvance 2.1 as that causes it to freeze up after hd load, it did with me and some others.
To answer your question, yes you do and you can put it there by first putting your ps2 hd back in you pc but be carefull you don't erase the allready present iso's on that ps2 drive.

I have HD advance 2.0, is it just 2.1 that will not work or is it ALL HD advance won't work??
I can not get my computer to reconize the PS2HDD. no its not a jumper setting thing... if I format the drive in os X it works great, always has... but If I format it w HD advance 2.0 neither Mac OSX or Windows98 SE will reconize it. now I realize also the HDD should NOT show up on win 98 but that is SHOULD work with HDL_dumb or WinHIIP. When I run HDL_dumb I get "device is not connected". When I try WinHIIP it acts like everything is fine, says everything is complete but, it does not work. ps1 game just loads, when I boot with HD advance 2.0 the files are not there. My games I put on with HD advance are there but nothing else.
