guys most of you are getting problem while connecting via FTP.The problem is you're formatting ps2 hard drive by HD Loader/Advance.TRy using winhiip or dms format.I had the same trouble and after many unsuccesful tries i found out that.Hd Loader still recognizes your drive but FlashFXP would normally create and transfer folders(I couldn't manage to hdd but mc)

OK I can finally connect to it with Flash FXP and not get a black screen, but on Step 3 of the tutorial, it says "Rename the hdld_server.elf to BOOT.ELF".. Where is the hdld_server.elf file? I don't see it anywhere.
Thanks

It is in the folder in which you installed hdl_dumb....make sure you have your folder options on "View all files" so hidden files are shown as well

Thanks.. My bad.. I downloaded hdl_dumb-0.8 instead of hdl_dumb-0.7.3, and the 0.8 zip did not have that file in there. :)

OK, I've gotten past step 3, but I need help with step 4. :P
"Insert your chosen PS1 Game into your PS2 and restart. This should now boot to the hdl dumb server. "
OK I did this using Parappa the Rapper, and the PS2 boots up to a black screen with a bunch of text, but I can't read the text at all.. the font is too small, it kinda looks like the same messages as when running ExexFTP on PS2 in Step 2, but I can't tell if it's the same messages or not that shows up.
"Re-open hdl dumb and change 'Target' to 'Networking Server, at'. The software should connect to your PS2 and be ready to install games.
Now to install/run games using the PS2 use the HDLoader disk. To install games using your networked PC use the PS1 disk."
OK I did change to 192.168.0.10 the hdl_dumb program "thenks" for like 30 seconds and then nothing happens. What does the "attach" button do? it just gave me some error.
If I hit the radio button for "browse and delete" it does not show anything installed on the drive, but I know there are games installed already on there (about 90G worth).
What else am I doing wrong?
Thanks

are you using a crossover cable or through a router? either way you have to make sure that they are configured to recognize that IP address

I was having problems using my router as well, I gave up and connected the two via a crossover. I think there are more help issues on this forum with your same situation

Hmm OK.. Well i'll try that.. But I have a feeling there's something on that PS2 bootup screen I can't read because of the font size.

Hi, i've read almost all forums and posts about this subject. I as well am not able to create a proper ISO to execute the execftps.
At first I got a black screen (like some others).
This was because I didn't drag the files into "cdgenPS2" in the right order (and I didn't set the LBA to 12231).
After I fixed that, IT LOADED !....almost.
Now it freezes at loading the PS2HDD module!
So I'm almost there but I probably need a proper ISO to help me.
Could somebody please mail me a working ISO of their execftps?

So, can anyone tell me what that font says or if there's a way to enlarge it somehow so I can see what the error message is?

I figured it out, it seems that execftps doesn't work with HDAdvance 2.1 . So I gues I won't be needing the ISO. Thanx anyway for all of your help...
I allready tried booting an iso of HDloader, and than tried to launch execftps but that didn't work either.
Does anybody know how to get execftps or maybe another FTP program to work with HDAdvance 2.1 ?

All the head breaking your going through is without reason, all you have to do is go get a dms4 pro and solder that bad boy on your ps2 and call it a day. You wont have to download this and that and beat your head against the walls tryna figure out what your doing wrong, you can also get the non solder version which is just as good but I just prefer the solder version.

CornyG, had any progress with that?
Because I'm stuck in the very same situation. First I had blank screen, no ExecFTPs. Then I put two somewhat different .isos and ok, the third one worked. I even got the '...initialised in port 21!'
That was yesterday. Today, nothing has changed, but now ALL the images leave me in the place where I just wait the ps2hdd module to init. Which never happens. :-P
Tried to remove all the system configs from the MC. No effect. HDAdvance 2.1 and ExecFTPs 0.68 here too.

ok so I can't FTP to my ps2. in FlashFXP it shows its connected through port 21 for a few seconds and then it says the connection was lost and its retrying. Im using a crossover cable and haven't touched my PC's IP. I don't know how to change the PS2's IP. I've used the startup disk to try but I'm on a LAN and it won't authenticate it to save it. Can I get into my MC and change the file? I'm such a noob! I appreciate the help in advance.

I have a question that may be very obvious, but do you need a modded PS2 to do this, or will it work on a normal(unmodded) ps2?
Also, if this guide is for a modded PS2, is there some sort of work around?

You don't need a mod.
I've spent the last three days reading, downloading and a bit of trial and error (I know enough to be dangerous but not enough to be useful) and I have my ps2 hooked up to my pc.
I had to do a bit of fooling around because of my router. I think this is where a lot of people are getting stuck. I used the network adapter disc to find my ps2 IP info.
If you search the web enough on some of the things that are talked about in this thread you will find all the files you need plus some you may not have even known about before. Now I have a back up of my hdloader on my mem card. This is a great guide. I learned tons.
