I personally I haven't used the value TY's, however, I know people that've burned 1,000's of them with no probs, and I have no doubt they are excellent media. That info comes from DocTY, the resident TY expert, he taught me a lot of what I know about media.

ok, I just read more about the Value. The differences is that they are only wrap together(no styrofoam support) and they are TYGO1-2-3 at ramdom so you can get TYGO2 if you are lucky. There is a good price on www.rima.com but unfortunately the shipping cost in canada is OUTRAGEOUS! Only UPS Internatinal Express so shipping cost is higher than the discs lol

Yeah you won't get TYG01 anymore. You'll get TYG02 or 03. Basically the extras are just surplus TY's. So they bundle them as "value" and sell them. I don't think there's any difference in how they're manufactured.

yeah, I think it works the same way as GPU and CPU.
i.e. For serie XXXX of Pentium 4, intel produces only 3.4ghz version. If the CPU failed the tests at 3.4, they underclocked it to 3.2... until it succeed the tests and then sell them at this speed.
but finally i'll buy 100 TYGO2 on blankdvdmedia.com. It's $51(transport included) for 100. Rima and Ncix have better price for the discs but the shipping cost...

Yeah you should be Coaster free with the TYG02's. You've done your homework, and you seem to want to do things the right way, so I doubt you'll have any problems. Good luck with the TYG02's.

Is your PS2 modded?
Was it/did you rebuild it?
What DVD brand are you using?
What speed did you burn it at?

I got another question. Does DVD-R works well with the big PS2?(v.5-11). I heard they had difficulties with them. I might get a re-factored one at the EB games

DVD-R's work fine on v.5-11 PS2's. The format isn't nearly as important as the quality, since you already ordered TYG02, you're already covered there.

Yes. It's still best to use quality discs, I've got sketchy results on mine using anything outside of Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Maxell High Grade.

now I ordered them on www.blankmedia.ca wich seems to be reliable.
I paid $40(including taxes and shipping) for 50 DVD-R 8x TYG02 and 7mm white case. I used bank transfer for payments(my parents don't even trust paypal XD)

The best price I found on TY are 36.99 for 50 and they are +R(my dvd player only takes -R). With taxes it would have been like 41, I paid 40 and I got cases.

Yo.
I got some Verbatim 8x DVD-Rs for $15 AUD and 5 Mitsubishi DVD+R 8x blanks in the mail the otha day. So are these ones the best for PS2 copies?. I have been through Ritek & TDK discs in the past, TDK was ok and Ritek G04s were good also but i got a 50pk of RitekG05 "pearl white ontop purple under" a while ago and they didn't seem to work as nice as TDK or G04 strange.
If Verbatim and Mitsubishi r made in Taiwan are they still good, cuz i remember seeing somewhere on this forum that its best to get ones made in japan. So is that true cause they both are made in Taiwan are they worse not coming from jpn. Anyway i got both of their media ID codes, they both report being MCC-003 Mitsubishi Chemicals, these r good are they not.
Thx

The majority of Verbs are made in Taiwan. They're an exception to the Japan rule. The 8x Verbs are excellent for PS2 backups, in either format.

Nice Guide.
After looking through, I decided to get some Maxell discs. However, my games still don't load, or hit and miss if they do, and I burn them at 1x and 2x. I am using the SwapMagic thing, on my Slimline PS2.

Do you have some sort of case mod? I.E. Flip top, slide card, etc. Made in Taiwan Maxells are not good. They'll code out anywhere from CMC Mag to RitekG05, neither of which is suitable for PS2 games in my opinion. Get some 4x or 8x Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims.

Hi everybody,
I followed *exactly* Mik3h guide to rebuild Metal Gear Solid 2: Subsistance. By coincidence, this game is the example of the guide, so I am *sure* that the file sizes, file order, LBA numbers, SLES number, etc. are OK.
I used CD/DVD Generator v1.50 and built the ISO using Apache 2 (build: 167df). I burned it using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4.0 at 4x speed on a Verbatim 8x DVD-R.
Unfortunately, the DVD won't boot (DVD spins endlessly, black TV screen). The only difference between the guide and my tries is the version of ISOBuster. I use ISOBuster v.1.9, while Mik3h used ISOBuster v.1.7 Pro...
Any ideas? Instead of Apache2, I have also tried IML2ISO tool v.4.01, with no success.
Thanx.
