hey everyone,
A month ago, i bought a modded ps2. the version is the SPCH-30004 one.
It plays original games fine, and it used to play burned games (blue bottom) no problem. now, it still plays original silver discs ok, but it has trouble with my blue burned copies.
i'm using Taiyo yuden, DVD+R (i think my ps2 prefers DVD+R), and i know these games work, bcause they used to. i know, i follow the old DVD Decrypter, iso read iso write, or if i need to, unrar the files and then burn the iso from there. dont worry, i understand how to make the disc.
now these blue games sometimes work, sometimes not. i get stuck at the browser screen and the ps2 keeps trying to read the disc, but it cant. when the blue disc game does load though, it plays no problem, no hiccups or glitches at all. can anyone please give me some tips. should i try the method described on the first page of this thread? is it the laser thats dying? please save my ps2! :) thanks!!!
please dont say anything you wouldnt say to someone if they were physically in your face.

SiRKiD - Try rebuilding the game.
WabbaJ - The PS2 does not like blue-bottom game discs (also known as CD games) you can try re-calibrating the laser, or cleaning it, but as it's pre-owned but chances are it just may not play them any more. It is possible to convert CD games to DVD. Check this link - http://home.versatel.nl/joeriroels/Downl...a_DVD_-JRLS.htm

It really isn't too difficult. Here's an encouraging thought, I'm only 15 and I do it and have done so to countless other PS2s :)

(i also posted this in another thread but wanted to share here too, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/121/117975#2570603)
I RETURN BEARING GOOD NEWS!!! :)
hey everyone. a couple of posts ago, i was frettin out about how my ps2 is messed. to recap, about a month ago, i bought a modded ps2 used. i bet its like 4yrs old at the least, and while in the very beginning it had played original gamesd and burned games pretty consistently and no problem, things changed....
eventually, i had a lot of trouble playing games, especially burned-blue ones, and even pressed originals were starrting to give me trouble- as in not even booting at all! i tried everything (well, not really, just stupid stuff) like putting scotch tape on discs, flipping the ps2 upside down then vertically, trying to load without controllers plugged in, trying to turn the power off and on really rapidly, etc. just nutty stuff.
so, i tried out the guide on this forum on a thread as "skipping stuttering, games, disc read errors" by Mike3h. i had known of this method, but wasnt confident in my skills and thought that if i have a different version ps2, things could get messy under the hood. yesterday i thought WTF and took the ps2 apart.
i cleaned the lens with isopropanol (aka isopropyl alcohol, rubbing alcohol) and blew out some dust out of the unit. then i adjusted the white circle dial till i got a height where all my games were playing. i tested it for like 6hrs at various heights, diff't disc types and companies, and pressed games, the whole works. i turned it off and gave it times in between sessions to make sure it worked consistently. it did. the real challenge was finding a height where all games work everytime, cuz i think different companies make their discs just barely thinner/thicker than others. like i think TY makes thinner discs than pressed ones and sony (japan) works pretty well and seems to be the same thickness as pressed games. maybe just my imagination....well, ater testing out the system and trying to vent out some paranoia, i closed the thing up. and actually, it still worked just as well.
in the end, the system works fine now. opening it up and cleaning it and adjusting the height worked like a charm :) i'm posting this so that people in the future who feel that the guide is a load of sh!t or feel uncomfortable with their own skills know that it can work, and its worth a try if your out of warranty and will have to spend like 50$ to get it done by a pro.
so, sorry for the long post, but i guess people who are hesitant have someones elses experience to benefit from.
special thanks to all the guys like Mike, stang, Talon55 and anyone else i may have forgotten to mention that helped me through this mess. :) yeah!
PS: naturally, youre the only one responsible if you make the choice to open up the ps2 and things go wrong, but hopefully that wont happen ;)
PPS: Mike, my ps2 is different from yours, like so many. but really, is there a point to taking off the bottom? it didnt seem neccessary when calibrating the lens. i guess its just to clean out the whole system. well thanks man, and you know your shi!t for sure for a 15yrs old. ;)

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the information provided. I am using a v14 slim ps2 with swap magic 3.6. I use Taiyo yuden media and burn at 4x using DVD Decrypter. Everything has worked perfect until yesterday when I started getting really long loading times while I was playing a backup copy of Fight Night 3. I thought I might have been the game so I changed it and used 3 other games but still got long loading times. I left it alone for about 2 hours and then came back to play, now it worked fine until about 1 hour into the game where I started to get the slow loading again. It seems to me that every time I play for more than about 1 hour I start getting the slow loading times. My question is this, Is my laser starting to die? Or what do I need to do in order to stop this from happening? Thank you so much for any help.

@WabbaJ Thank you very much for the kind words, I'm glad you got it working! :D
@roselindo - Try cleaning the laser or re-calibrating it, if originals play fine, it could be your media/burner.

Mike,
Thanks for your help. Yes the originals play fine. I will try to callibrate my laser after cleaning it. I am using T.Y. media with an NEC burner.

Hi mike.
I have been creating backups using Verbatims (DVD-R x16) fine for a while now. I have just got hold of some Memorex (DVD-R x16) and they are proving to be a problem. The games I have burned are fine, no stuttering or failure to read during the actual games. However I am now encountering a real problem with them, in that they won't boot. They PS2 just goes to the browser/system configuration screen, and doesn't go anywhere from there its really frustrating. The once in 50 attempts that they do actually boot, they run fine like I said no failure to read and they read quickly.
I have just cleaned my lens and that doesn't seem to have helped. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved
