when i run PSPtm Update ver 3.71 (with the M33) logo - the update screen looks pretty official? Almost like i am actually going to update to sony's firmware.
I've cancelled and am back at 3.52 m33-4. before I run this - I just wanna make sure this is how it should look. Too much homebrew fun to lose just yet.
thanks...

sicdude is a star i have gone from a firmware of 2.71 to 3.71 M33-2 today, it has taken me about 4 hours mind, just one thing sicdude the Tutorial is great but the upgrade from 3.51 M33-4 to 3.71M33 was not not that clear it took me about 1 hour to work out what to do.
Good luck everyone

Hi. I'm a relative Noob. I have an original 1.50 PSP, on which I was using 2.71 firmwre via Devhook 0.46. I've read a lot of forum threads and just got totally confused with all the technical lingo. I read this guide and it sounded easy enough and so went for the plunge. Needless to say that I was very anxious about whether I would end up damaging my PSP. But to my delight, everything worked perfectly. I am now running 3.52 M33 custom firmware, thanks to this guide.
A BIG THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
If I wanted to upgrade to 3.71, is this a relatively easy thing to do?
Also, I have another PSP on 2.81 (this isn't emulated but actually at 2.81). How can I get this to run the 3.52 M33 custom firmware?

JEEZ JEEZ
i have version 2.52 m33-4 installed
im trying to go to 3.71 m33
I put the official 3.71 and the m33 thing in the update folder. I then try to run the updater and it says i must be version 2.52 m33-3 or higher
i am higher obviously
then it just brings me back to the xmb or whatever you call it
now can someone tell me whats wrong
and note im not only noob. I am freakin retarded. I ride the short yellow bus
Think of it that way
I want the most simplified tutorial and fix for this problem
I don't care if steps are like
1. sit down
2. grab the psp
i just want to get this working.
I have no clue how i got to his version in the first place. I don't even remember what I did.

If the file is corrupted (I assume you're talking about the FW eboot) it really is corrupted. Redownload the eboot from a reliable site (or whatever file which was corrupted). I recommend using this website.

on the link above there are themes that are the same as the ones you would use on 3.52m33 just converted for 3.71m33 (the ones that say converted instead of ptf).they need to be flashed so i'm guessing there will be waves and stuff:)
the ptf themes don't have waves but they work like mobile/cell phone themes you can put as many on as you want and just change it every day if you wanted to,plus with the official sony theme creator you can make your own ptf theme so you would be like the only oneto have that theme lol the one i made my self the icons spell out my name :)

installing the 1.50 kernel patch
#download the 150 kernel addon 2 from here http://dark-alex.org/
#download the 150 update from here http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmware-1.50-File-...d/163/catid/163
#rename the 150 update eboot to 150.pbp and place it in the root of your memstick
#put the kernel 150 addon 2 update folder in GAME folder on memstick
#scroll to game on xmb and launch the programme
#thats it you now have the 1.50 kernel
if you look closely i say download the 150 kernel addon 2,you can install the 150 kernel addon 2 without installing addon 1
