Deltron30,
eac3to now supports extracting from an .mkv container format. You could try that on your problem .mkv and see if eac3to has better luck extracting the elementary streams.

I do have a question however and I would love it if anyone has the knowhow to help. I am very green when it comes to this.
I have a mkv file that plays fine in VLC, but when I use MKVextractGUI it only extracts a 8.7 MB x264 file and an equally small sound file.
What could the reason be for this? Also, is there another way to extract the video and sound?

Hi ryu,
Here's my problem I have 6 mkv's They are 1080p HDTV.x264-hVmkv most have ac3 but 2 only have stereo. They all are 25fps. I know I can run them through tsmuxer change the fps to 24fps the level to 4.1. I had trouble with the audio being in sync. I Think I can rip the ac3's from the non high def versions I have with dvd decryper ,I can put the files back together with mkvmerge, and mkv2vob will convert them so i can play on my ps3 but I need to know the whole process from start to finish. Any advise you could offer would be a great help.

For the video streams to be NTSC compliant you should choose 24000/1001 as the fps... this will give you 23.976fps, 24fps will cause slight flickers. Also, taking the DVD 5.1 audio and remuxing with the HD h264 streams is fine, I actually suggest this for all six parts as they are better quality than the HDTV broadcast. The sync you are talking about can be resolved with a delay set when you mux with tsMuxeR. I have a feeling I know what movies you are talking about, start with 2 second delays and work from there. Fine tune with good ol' trial and error.

Thanks odin for you quick response. I'll try and do that, but it will take a while for all 6 films. I will also keep checking back if anybody has a fast more accurate method I'm open to suggestions.

Quote: So I've run into some audio sync issues recently. The .mkv file is fine, but when I try to convert it with both txmuxer and mkv2vob the audio goes out of sync. It doesn't happen with ever movie I try, just a few. Any suggestions?
Anybody?

Hey Odin after some good ol' trial and error. The sound is in sync. I delayed the video 2250 milliseconds because it was running ahead of the sound. Thanks for the suggestion. It worked like a charm. :D

I took my in sync mkv that plays through Media Player Classic Homecinema without flaws. I then ran it through mkv2vob to my external hard drive. It is configured for 4 gig file spliting with trans coding mpeg-2. when the conversion was completed I hooked it up to the ps3. It was out of sync??? Does the media player have something that would make playback different than that of the ps3, or did the conversion process have something to do with it???

Use tsMuxeR, mux to m2ts... split at 4GB if you need to for FAT32. No transcoding involved and the delay is untouched. It plays great.

Heres the mkv info before I run it through mkv2vob or tsmuxer.
I am still getting sync problems after I let tsmuxer mux it to m2ts. I have it set to 24000/1001 fps and 4.1 file split at 3.99 Gig's. Its is just muxing the Ac3 and the video. I left out the subtitles. When I merged the mkv I delayed the video 2250 millisec and left the audio alone. was this a mistake? Should I have done something else?

If you apply a delay using tsMuxeR you don't need to apply another one using mkvmerge. You also need to manually set the FPS when using mkvmerge as well, or it will assume the FPS is 25 (instead of 23.976)

I dont know if it matters? I Guess it doesn't hurt to ask, but anyways the video and audio are two different lengths, Because of the whole 25fps thing it's shorter. Does this matter to tsmuxer or mkv2vob?

I set 24000/1001 fps in both apps. and I dont know how to set a delay in tsmuxer so I don't think I did.

When you change the fps of 25fps content to 23.976, the runtime will change accordingly.
Also, applying a delay (to the audio) in tsMuxeR is easy. After you load your audio track, in the "General Track Options" (near the middle) you can set the delay there... make sure you highlight the audio stream first.

Your video needs to be re-encoded, it's not compaticble with the PS3... it's the way it was initially encoded. It has too many reference frames (5). In order for 1080p h264 files to be PS3 playable they need to have 4 or less.

I'm confused so....now what? I need to re-encode the video? With what, and how?

See what you can gather from this. It contains a guide and all of the apps neccesary.
You can also check out this thread which deals a lot more about re-encoding and video processing.

If it doesn't fit on a DL DVD right now you'd have to re-encode either the video or the audio to make the size of the mkv smaller.
PS...more likely would be better to re-encode the video track...
