Did the original MKV come packaged with DTS too?
EDIT: That track only has 2 channels and has a bit rate of only 80kb/s, not the greatest but easily converted.
I used Aften encoder, controlled by MeGUI. If you have never used MeGUI before for audio encoding you may need to set the program paths first, do this from the options section of MeGUI. Options/Settings/Program Paths/Audio/... then under the Aften section browse for Aften.exe, is should come bundled with the latest MeGUI.
1. Open MeGUI
2. In the audio section, load the OGG file directly
3. Set the "Extension" to AC3, Encoder Settings to Aften AC-3: Aften DVD Low.
4. "Config" button, set the bitrate to 128kb/s, OK.
5. Enqueue
6. Queue Tab, start.

I just updated my previous comment, see my instructions. Your ogg file that you uploaded showed DTS in the description.

hi there,
i have a very strange problem... i stream 720p or 1080p content (originaly .mkv - now vob or live transcoded .mkv) to PS3. content is 1080p/24 or 720p/24.
On my full-hd display blu-ray discs play without any problems in 1080p/24.
This is what happens when i STREAM the content to the PS3:
720p/24 --> Streamed --> PS3 --> Display 1080p/60
1080p/24 --> Streamed --> PS3 --> Display 1080p/60
when i take the stream content and burn it as AVCHD on a dvd that i play on the PS3 it plays the content these 3 ways:
720p/24 --> AVCHD DVD --> PS3 --> Display 720p/60
1080p/24 --> AVCHD DVD --> PS3 --> Display 1080p/24 (Upscaled from 720p/24 and burned as 1080p/24 to AVCHD DVD)
1080p/24 --> AVCHD DVD --> PS3 --> Display 1080p/24 (Original 1080p/24)
my question is, whats so different between streaming and burning as AVCHD and how do i solve the 24/60 problem ?

What do you mean by upscaled from 720p/24 and burned as 1080p/24? Did you re-encode it and resize it to 1920 x 1080?
The PS3 will only play in the native 24fps from a 1080p AVCHD or Blu-ray disc. It will not play at 24fps with a 720p source. I don't have an answer as to why, I can only tell you what is. :-)

yes, i tried many combinations to find out why and how to avoid that 24/60 problem...
so... only 1080p AVCHD.... hmmmm.... yes, youre right i upconverted 720p/24 to 1080p/24 to see if 720p causes the problem. so in fact, it was 720p content.
conclusion: live with 720p/60 or upconvert it on 1080p AVCHD (to play original 24).
thats very disappointing for streaming... hmmmmm

Are you talking about streaming 720p content or bluray format 720p content? my ps3 never had issues with 720p content burned to a dual layer dvd. Are you encoding at 23.976 fps or at 24000/1001?

its 720p/23.98 mkv (used mkv2vob to make .vob file for better streaming to ps3). even if i take that mkv and burn it to AVCHD as 720p it's only 60 frames per second.

Download mkv2vob (http://www.mkv2vob.com), add your mkv, choose your settings, and you're done.

I am not a huge fan of mkv2vob but it is good for beginners.
There is a guide on this thread that outlines my preferred method...
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/639346
That guide was composed by Str8Pryd, which is basically an abridged compilation of all the information found on these two threads.

Hi Again all,
any recommendations please for software conversion of h264 AVC profile file to PS3 compatible stream whereby the DAR is kept 'as is' and the resolution doesnt change inside the file to a more narrow/squashed up appearance.
I have another MKV file that i want to convert to MP4 or M2TS for the PS3 and i have only once before successfully altered the h264 stream inside a differnt MKV and kept the DAR intact and the widescreen resolution of the movie stayed 'as is'.
Trouble is i cant exactly remember how i did it as it took me around 4 days and i tried so many different programs.
cheers

^^ Use GotSent I have tried all the MKV>>to>>whatever
Gotsent is the only that actually works with every MKV+Subs with no loss of quality

that's not true. If you're embedding subs, you have to transcode (demux the streams, hardcode subs, re-encode), which is a loss of quality.
if you have a 1080p file that's L4.1 and has more than 4 reference frames, it'll also need to be transcoded.

Technically speaking, by definition you cannot have a video stream @ 1920x1080 that is both L4.1 and has more than 4 reference frames. The reason you'd have to transcode it is to get it to within L4.1 or lower specs for bluray compability. I'm sure you know that (I'm not just trying to be one of those people that correct everyone's sentences/grammar)...I'm just throwing that out there so as not to confuse anyone by the way you worded your sentence.

not really worried about subs - every movie is in English and thats the only language i speak, so no subs required. just want to convert the h264 file successfully without changes/issues

as mentioned, GOTSent or mkv2vob (I prefer mkv2vob) will remux without re-encoding the video - unless the video needs to be re-encoded to be compatible with the PS3.
these apps will also transcode DTS to AC3 because the PS3 doesn't support DTS - except on disc.
If you want DTS (and selectable subtitles, too), your best bet is to burn to DVD (single or dual layer) in the AVCHD structure.
mkv2vob will have a version out this weekend or Monday (says the author) that will convert your audio/video to AVCHD without having to re-encode the video.
Normally, if your video isn't 1920x1080 or 1280x720 and you burn it as an AVCHD disc, you'll have green bars on your video.

The quality loss is minimal, to nothing, both my tv's are full hd and i cant see no difference.
You may be right, i wont argue, but gotsent embeds the subs right, with Mkv2Vob in most cases the subs are minutes away especially when it splits the video to 4gb.
I have 2x1tb HDD's connected to my PS3, so to burn AVCHD discs in my case would be a little dump.
I will try the new version, hope that works better.

the new version has some nice features, yet i still cannot convert these 2 specific movies successfully without the DAR inside the video (h264 stream) changing. it keeps altering the resolution which is 960x544 @ A.R.2.35 [Anamorphic? (YES) 1280x544] with a 5.1 AVC profile, and the appearence becomes more squashed up horizontally. ive also tried gotsent, tsmuxer, blah blah, but no success. Basically my understanding is the h264 stream needs to come down to 4.1 and thats about it (other than its an MKV and it needs to be MP4, M2TS or whatever to play directly from my PS3).
help me please!

To lower the Profile, just download h264info
I had a similar issue with an mkv movie and no matter what, no tool was able to re-encode it or embed subs or even demux it properly.
Only tool that i've finally found that could re-encode it was
Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate, but does not supports subs, and if i am not wrong it doesn't support 5.1 audio to mp4's, but converts everything to anything.
If you dont care about subs, give it a try.

Hi Guys, Noob here,
I'm using tsmuxer to make my avchd vids play on the PS3, works very almost perfectly. I'm finding that ever vid I've converted that there is a slight jump in the video about 2 second into the start of playback(then it's perfect thereafter)
I'm using tsmuxer 1.8.4 and I've tried the 1.8.8beta, same gig. I'm using the default settings, I've changed a couple of settings but getting no where. if I could just get this right then I could delete my orginal files, saving mucho GB's :-)
the video I'm using is from a toshiba gigashot camera, the footage is 1080i/60.
anybody had this experence or can suggest settings/ other software?
(p.s whats the -82 setting about and am I best not touching it?)

If your AVCHD structure is in the 8.3 file format it will not read properly on a DVD with PS3. In the BDMV folder, do the files have 3 or 4 digit extension? For USB playback they should be 3, for DVD/BD playback they should be 4.
