The link below gives basic info. It's not as straightforward as for cable, and it may cost you a monthly fee. Channel-wise, you'll get hundreds more though..

Hi,
Just been reading this thread, very interesting. So this DBox2 replaces your existing NTL Pace box, right? Once set up correctly, you get all NTL channels through this box. I presume you lose the NTL menu (whats on each channel, etc)? And you can put your current NTL box to use in another room? I have NTL Digital in Dublin.
Anyone recommend a good seller?
I also read it can record tv to your pc, and other stuff. Anyone using it for anything other than watching telly?

Garlad,

Hello and welcome. Yes - the Dbox2 would basically works in place of the Pace box and yes, you can still use the Pace box (or indeed another Dbox2) in another room. Just use a splitter..

As for all the channel info (EPG), this IS available and works grand. The software on the dbox is homebrew, not some corporate designed rubbish that's not so user friendly nor sophisticated..

As for getting hold of a Dbox2, I'd say ebay is probably the most common source. As always, check feedbacks though (etc)..

Benifa,
Thanks for info. Can you explain how it all works in a sentence or two? Does the software on the box decodes the NTL signal? Any fear of NTL changing their encryption? Any way of them knowing you have a DBox 2?

the cable company sends the signal encoded along with the info to decode it . the dbox, software etc. decodes it and sends to the telly. Unlike sky who sends the signal and the key to decode is in the card.

NDS from sky is not cracked and nagravision1 used from the UK/irish cable provider is cracked.
The emulators used at a box emulates the work of a card.

So all that ntl need to do is change their encryption, send a new card to everyone, and their problem goes away?

seems to say that ntl did go the nds route back in '98 but I'll take your word for it!

Lads while we're on the subject of encyption, tell me, have I got this right or not: The Dbox2, in debug with a Neutrino/Enigma etc etc, can decrypt pay tv from ANY cable network worldwide, as long as it's using Nagra encryption?

For example, in Singapore, Starhub uses Nagra. Can a Dbox2 be used there?..

Chorus and NTL Ireland belong both to UPC Ireland. Its a UPC problem not a NTL problem.

It depends if the used version is cracked, if there are keys availabel and if a emulator (emu in short) supports that system.
The emus useable at a dbox2 are evocamd, mgcamd, newcamd and so on.
