I have a huge problem trying to rip MGS2:Substance PS2 and use it with SWAP MAGIC 3.6. I've followed the old guide step by step and the hexing guide, but when i use CD/DVD GENERATOR to make the .IML file it says "TOO SHORT LOCATION LENGTH" So then i replaced the three 1byte dummy files i recreated to the original DEMO2, STAGE2, & VOX2.DAT files, created the .IML file, used .IML2ISO then burned it with DVD Decrypter and it was no good. the game stood on the black screen after LOAD PROGRAM. WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING WRONG WITH THE DUMMY FILES??????? PLZ HHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLPPP!
much appreciated.
U gay!

I will tell you the easy way to copy, rebuild, and burn ps2 games in the easiest way possible. I have had a 100% success rate, and have coppied scores of PS2 games. This will work on every PS2 dvd game you want to back up. (mind you, if its a dvd9 game which is rare, you will have to lower the video/audio quality so it fits on a single layer dvd. This can be done using pssplex)
Step 1.
Decrypt the ps2 game to your hard drive using dvd decryptor.
Step 2.
Open up Isobuster and load in the image file.
Step 3.
Hold shift and highlight all the game files and put them in a folder.
Step 4.
Open up Nero burning rom and create a new UDF/ISO dvd (It's the last one in the list). Drop all the game files into Nero in the same order as it is listed in Isobuster. Just keep Isobuster open as a reference when you do this. Nero will change the order of the files graphically, however they burn in the order that you dropped them in.
Step 5.
Name the image and burn it at 4x.
Step 6.
Presto, you've rebuilt and burned a PS2 game. Play it.
note:
Some games have dummy files in them.(ie. guilty gear, spider-man 2). They are used to beef up the size of the image and to copy-protect the game. Burning games with the dummy files left unchanged will result in a game that does not boot (using swap magic anyway). To remedy this annoyance follow these fun steps.
Step 1.
Use Isobuster to copy the files to a folder.
Step 2.
Create a new text file. Open it and press the space bar, then close it. This creates a byte of data in the text file.
Step 3.
Rename the text file you made to the same name as the dummy file in your folder. You can point out a dummy file if its called DUMMY.DAT, DUMMY.000, DUMMY.001 etc., GARBAGE.DAT. These files will always be in the main folder of the iso.
Step 4.
Overwrite all those dummy files with the blank ones you've created. (games generally only have 1 dummy file, but some have multiple dummy files)
Step 5.
Patch complete! Burn it.

Mashama...
In regards to your post from poodude...
If you are making a copy of a game that requires no downsampling of media streams. Why would you want to rebuild it??
The only scenario I can think of is if for some reason your modification (swap magic etc.) wont read a dummy file, then you will have to rebuild it with a dummy dummy file... :-P
The easiest way by far is to just rip and burn with DVD Decrypter. With DVD9's, I think with today's prices on dual layer discs (about $1 each), it would be far easier just to burn to a DVD9 preserving all the original quality and more importantly saving a lot of time.

Hi I have just registered for the first time and something thats been on my mind but just can't get answered, with a PS2 console, does it need to be shipped away for mods, or do I need to buy a special micro chip for my PS2 to read coppied PS2 games.
Thanks Fiona.

I have recently figured out a way to make the perfect ps2 backups of games. I went to Circuit City and bought a pack of Sony (AccuCORE)DVD's. Man i have been trying for a while now to copy Ps2 games and it was very difficult finding the right dvd that would run at a great speed. I mean no skipping, disc slowing down then speading up,slow load times, ect. So i ran across AccuCORE, which means Accuracy, Compatability & Reliability. There are the best yet. Actually i found out that when these disc have been writen on they play on your ps2 better than the original game you copied it from. Of course you would have to use the dvd-r type of AccuCORE dvd's.
First thing i used was dvd decrypter and an el cheapo dvd (Cheap dvd). I iso read the ps2 game and iso write it to the cheap dvd.
I then take the copied game and use my CLONE CD software to make a copy of the disc.
The key is now to use your Sony AccuCore dvd-r(blank) for the copy from the cheap dvd.
If u have followed these instructions correctly u should have a succesfully working copied ps2 game dvd on a Sony AccuCore dvd-r!
Have fun!

Why don't you go from the game image to the Accucore DVD right away and bypass the cheap DVD all together?

The answer to Gamillah's question is "no"! The Swap Magic 3.6 cd or dvd cannot be copied to work on the ps2. The swap magic disk is only about $28. Stop being so cheap just buy it from Wayishop.com. You do not need a modchip of any sort. All u need is to do is visit Youtube.com. Type in Swap magic 3.6. Look for a video that shows u have to prapare for swap magic.
