nope, didn't want to mess with that, the way it lays out though it puts it after the .bin files and before the SLUS file.

Hey people! I'm new to the backuping PS2 games sort of thing. I was looking at the beginning of this thread at the sort of step by step part. I am wondering if once I copy a game do I need to open my PS2 up and fiddle around with the insides? Or should I just be able to use the guides and free software to copy playable games without changing my PS2 hardware. I am sort of confused by all the information i get by googling this topic. Som people say you can only burn PS2 game and use a modchip to make it work. Others talk about swap magic disc and a fliptop thing. Could I just get a run down of the basics?

you have to have either a fliptop & swap magic or a slide card (risky) or for the simplist of ways pay someone to mod your system (unless you know how to soldier).

Ok.....I am usual good at this whole thing of backing up games I have read all about rebuilding games and patching I understand the whole concept and Its easy to doo if you kno what your doing. Now I see every bodys probs and bout 99% that i read about boot their backups with "Swap Magic" now if you have a modded PS2 like with "DMS4 E.Z.I. Chip" do you have this prob and do you still need to rebuild or is the probs with the games only bc their using "Swap Magic" to boot?

it's only with Swap magic.
if you have a mod chip you don't have to rebuild or patch games (unless you want to play online, but I am not sure if you can or not).
some games it is good to rebuild cause the TOC size will drop a lot (Ultimate spiderman went from 4gb down to about 2gb) but it's not required for a modchip since it is always relaying that it is an original. Swap Magic just tells the PS2 "This is a real disc" then when you switch the disc it keeps that info stored and doesn't think the disc has been changed.

I had a question about rebuilding. If I let Dvd dycripter decrypt the image and then let isobuster extract the image I only see 11 files who are together 4 mb. The image is 4gig but i don't see any dummy files. What's the problem?

you can, and i have already, burn a one to one version of god of war successfully, without having to rebuild anything.
i have used dvd decryptor to make a DVD-R DL working copy. invest in a dl -r burner (i got mine for au$75 oem) and invest in a blank -r dl disc, (at au$10.50 a piece) and get quality baby!!!

most ps2 game sizes are easy enough to fit on DVD-R media, but some (e.g. GT4, god of war) can only fit on a dual layer DVD-R. untill recently dual layer -r media has not been readily available. and more often than not, dvd burners that boast of being capable of dual layer burning, only burn DVD+R DL. so if you intend on purchasing a dual layer burner, read the specs thoroughly before handing over the cash, then start burning 1 to 1 copies of all sized games!

david, i'm from aus too. do you have a swap disc or a mod chip? i have used verbatim DVD-R DL disc's with just dvd decryptor iso read and iso write and these have worked on a ps2 that has been a pain to get working. i am pretty sure that the UK also use region 4 PAL dvd's, so probably stick with european licence area if it infact makes a difference.

I managed to back up God of War onto a DVD-R 4.7gb (4.32gb) disc and it works ok even without rebuilding it.D/L discs are a bit cost prohibitive for me at the moment but they are pretty convenient,as long as there are no coasters!
Re: Mod Chips and Swap Magic,I would recommend the latter. Its easy to set up and you don`t break your warranty seals on your Playstion,I guess it`s a hassle for some to keep replacing the boot disc every time you want to play,but...you get used to it.
@zukdizzle
This may seem a stupid question but...do you have a modchip installed or are you using Swap MAgic on your PS2??

Swap Magic 3.6

re: "can't find dvddecrypter"
Switch to Gooogle silly kid, I googled "download dvddecrypter" and it came up right away.
Google filename "SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe"
Or just "SetupDVDDecrypter"

I'm trying to backup Gauntlet Seven Sorrows, but I keep getting the "Too short location length. (less than 600000 sector)" message when I'm running CDVGEN. I must be doing something wrong, but what?
