The easiest way to burn ps2 games is use a program called dvd decrypter, click mode-iso-read when the original game is in or in our case the "rented" is in and then mode-iso-write
easy ass pie

ok, i'm no noob - i have over 200 dvd burns under my belt with less than 20 coasters ever. i have used every program out there for movies, but prefer decrypyer/shrink overall. i've recently gotten Alcohol 120 and made a couple good backups, but the GT4 i did to a dvd+dl did not work (i assumed due to being dl). i'm trying the third game to be over 4.7 gig, and this rebuild/shrinking method looks cool. the problem is, you guys are talking about stuff we don't understand as if we should. i have Nero 6.6.0.16-bundled that came on a disc with my burner. is this no good, cuz i never ever saw a screen that said burning rom.
how exactly do i get to the udf/iso - or even this "new image" page, is it under data? and when i use iso buster, do i copy the iso aand udf? if so how? if not which one? since they both have the same names, do i creats a seperate folder for iso than for udf? please understand that we cannot see what you see on your computer, so try to be more specific as to how we can get to where you are.
thanks for all the help.
ps. i have Nero 6.6.0.16 bundled, updated with all the fixes for windows xp - running on win xp pro sp2. running a p4 2.67, 512ram 140g hd. have latest decrypter, shrink, CloneDVD, AnyDVD, dvdfab plat, isobuster, dvdinfo pro

POODUDE : you are my hero!
Thank you!
Using your original post (the very first post on this LONG thread) I was able to copy and play "Mercenaries PS2 DVD"
Previously I had simply copied the DVD with Nero and failed (using swap magic 3 and fliptop)
My question is :
1. Is there a list of games that must be backed up with this method? I have simply copied "Ape Escape Pumped & Primed" with Nero, it did not need to be rebuilt.
2. Why does this method work at all? It is so simple, just copy DVD to ISO, extract files from ISO, burn files with Nero in the same order as the ISO. It seems too simple to work, I wonder why it works at all???
Many thanks! Now I will rebuild those coasters and play!
Have a nice day,
Craig

I have been trying this but I think I need a little help. I have swap magic 3.6 but haven't had any luck making a actual game that works. After I use DVD Decrypter I open Isobuster and extract the files to a new folder. After that I use Nero burning rom(6) and try to drag the files into the burning list but it always trys to sort the files into a different order which I think is what is screwing up my burns.
When I used DVD Decrypter on Metal Gear (the newest one) for some reason it created 2 ISO images in the folder. I am not sure what that is all about =/
Is there someone that can help me with my problems pls?

BillyTech,
Have you tried simply copying it with Nero? I had 4 games yesterday to copy, 3 copied with Nero and 1 needed to be rebuilt.
Also, as for Nero changing the order of the files : as the fist thread steates the files will appear to have changed "graphically" but infact Nero will burn them in the order they were dropped.
Perhapse Metal Gear is an exception to this method.
Look for it on TorrentSpy.com or Aresgalaxy.org if you can't get it to copy.
Dig it?

*Bummer*
I downloaded a few games that I can't get working, the one that I am most interested in is "Megaman Anniversary collection PS2 CD"
I have the image file, I :
1. burnt it with the appropriate prog
2. rebuilt it following the original post on in this thread as CD/UDF
3. rebuilt it following the original post on in this thread as DVD/UDF
All are coasters with Swap Magic
Can you fellas help me out with this one? What method is required to get this working?
Thank you,
Craig

to spy:
now i'm no expert, but i've found that using alcohol120 to burn is much better than Nero or dvddecrypter. i think you need to have an mds file, not just the iso in order to burn games that will play successfully with swap magic. by no means am i saying this is the definitive answer, but it may help you. i also found some great tutorials elswhere online* <*can't advertise other websites, sorry> that made it really easy for me to make backups and even rebuild games. i got granturismo4 on on a 4.5 dvd and have about 15% done with no problems or lag times that i made myself.
if you can get the iml files online, you can use apache to create the iso you can burn. i wish i could help more, but i'd start breaking the rules. this site is a great reference, but don't stop here - there are other places that can help you out a lot and have files, tutorials and guides that are very helpful, as many of those sites are dedicated to particular things(dvd, ps2, xbox, etc), so they are very detailed in them.
hope i helped lead you to youyr answer!

hi all if you want to rebuild a game bigger than the 2gb limet of Nero try this.
(Note: a Patching and Rebuilding are the same thing, you only need to do one of these to get your back-ups to work. Also note that a patch is an automated Rebuild. Id advice rebuilding manually for the experience, but if you get fustrated theres no harm in getting a patch)
This guide was created to help even a newbie successfully back up
PS2 games.
Before continuing track down these tools, you will need them to
continue.
Hardware Required:
DVD burner (believe it or not, it has been asked many times if you need one)
Mod Chip or Swap Magic
Blank DVD ?R
At least 20 gigs of free space.
Software required:
DVD Decrypter
Iso Buster
cddvdgen
Nero
Apache 2 or iso build
1) Use DVD Decrypter to extract the iso from your hard-drive.
2) Create a new folder, Extract all the data in the iso
into this folder using isobuster.
3) Open up cddvdgen, you want to create a new DVD
project, the middle one. Drag over the new file you have created using
Iso buster, making sure you place them back into the same order as
they where in iso buster.
4) When you finish this go to the Volume tab and input
the follow data. Search though the folder you created with Iso buster
and locate the File, SLUS or SLES, note down the file name and number,
in the first box beside name, type the name you found, example (SLES)
followed by the number, without the period. Example (54322). Fill in
PLAYSTATION for producer, and the licence area is your area.
5) Click the record button at the top right and save it
to your C drive again. Name the file as f4.IML. You'll get 2 errors
but just hit ok and the recording window will load. If you don't then
you might be missing the wnaspi32.dll. Nero should have this if you
need it.
6) Go to file and export image to C drive (not a folder)
and name it f4.LST
7) Open up a dos prompt and go to your desktop, for most
of you the command will be "cd desktop" remove the quotes. From here
type "copy /b f4.000 + f4.001 + f4.002 + f4.003 f4.iso" and this
combines your files. This also assumes you have a file named f4.003,
if your files only go up to f4.002 don't add "+ f4.003", just put a
space and f4.iso at the end. From here hit enter.
7.b) Alternativly you can save some time by using iso build
instead, Open iso build add all the .00 ,.01 ,.02 and more if you have them ,select the output file as *.iso
8) Open up Nero burning rom and create a new UDF/ISO DVD
(It's the last one in the list). Burn it at 4x speed.
9) Enjoy your new backed up game?
If you're game won't boot! Read below
It would be advised to scan through your folder after you have
extracted the iso (in step 2) for dummy files.
Dummy Files:
Some games have dummy files in them. They are used to increase the
size of the image and to copy-protect the game. Burning games with the
dummy files left unchanged will result in a game that does not boot
(using swap magic anyway). To remedy this annoyance follow these fun
steps.
2) Create a new text file. Open it and press the space
bar, then close it. This creates a byte of data in the text file.
3) Rename the text file you made to the exact same name
as the dummy file in your folder. The dummy file will be called
something like DUMMY.DAT, DUMMY.000, DUMMY.001 etc, GARBAGE.DAT. These
files will always be in the main folder of the iso.
4) Overwrite all those dummy files with the blank ones
you've created. (Games generally only have 1 dummy file, but some have
multiple dummy files)
Patch complete! Burn it at 4x.
hope this helps.

I did that method to a tee, fallowed it step by step.
after 3 tries I now have 3 coasters, I am trying to backup Shadow hearts 2 the dummy file is named DUMMY. there is no extension or anything, so I make sure that when I put that file in to cddvdgen that I add that . back after DUMMY and then I double & triple check to make sure everything is in there properly, it is.
I move on to burn the game, it burns fine, I put in the game it boots up, shows the one message, goes to the menu, I click Start new game, the screen goes black and does not continue.
The First time I just copied the disc as is, got the black screen after clicking start new game.
Created a new dummy file but forgot the . after DUMMY, it went black after starting a new game.
Fallowed your method to a Tee, click new game, Black screen.
so apperantly something is just royaly fucked up with this game and it will absolutly not let you copy the game at all or no ones method that I have tried (which is now 3) works as they said.
I also do the BS Nero thing and it just does ISO images in the ISO/UDF tab no UDF part at all. here's a hint poodude, don't yell at us for not "Using the right version of nero" and not tell us what version you use that works, just saying "Use the latest one" doesn't cut it cause I am using version 7, others have been using the latest versions and have nothing but problems and you yell at them for being stupid and not using the latest version.

@andrew31: yep, in ISOBuster it just shows up as DUMMY. in windows it just removes the . part to it (since it doesn't have an extension). I tried downloading a few files that supposedly work on this sort of thing but they ended up doing nothing to help.
I've never seen a game give me so much trouble before.
@hursty: Got that version and still get the same error, no files over 2gb supported in ISO mode, please switch to UDF mode. even though I am on the ISO/UDF setting of nero, it just brings up one big window for it, I figured it would split it or something but it doesn't, it just acts like I am in a single format window.
it's very odd, it KNOWS it's an ISO/UDF cause it actually titles it UDFISO1_DVD when I first select the option, but when I go to drop in the file it just spits that error back into my face.
