piopat, well done on a year where you have supported all dreambox users beyond the call of duty. your tutorials have been exact and have helped multiple users. so have a great christmas and take great satisfaction on how many you have helped in 2010. I have no doubt you will be there for similar users in 2011.

Hi Guys,
Im struggling a bit here with external shares.
I currently have 2 dm500s (both on internal wan, but that shouldnt matter?)
I have a dysdns.tv account which i have entered into the C line of my client as described by pio.
I downloaded the dyndns updater so i think its ok.
Then i went to portforward.com , found the guide for my netopia 2247 router and fixed my laptop to static ip as 192.168.1.150
I dont know why i had to do that??
I then went into the config page for my router and setup a custom NAT service to my dm500s on port 12000. I used tcp here instead of UDP. Is that ok?
Now also because i have 2 dm500s inside a WAN i had 2 options here in the dropdown NAT menu to assign to port 12000. I assume this is my server and client dm500s respectively. I've tried portforwarding to both, and got no luck either way
I tried the portforward port tester and it said it found my network but not my router on port 12000 so that indicates my portforward is ok to my dm500s right?
Im out of idea's onwhat to try next though...
Anyone?
Thanks Guys!

you also need to lower the firewall settings on the router ,give that a try and see if it helps.

I currently have the firewall turned off on the router...
I wonder how i could test all this to see which part is broken. Can a dm500s 'ping' another dm500s?

the netopia 2247 is fairly easy to open a port on ,in define custom service (port forward range of ports should be set ) then click on next ,service name can be what you like i just typed in the box ip address ,then put 12000 in all 3 boxes (if 12000 is the port you want to use),set protocol to tcp and click on next .and click on done ,click on the little arrow where you see service name and select the service you just created ,then click on enable and you should see select host device if all is well you should see your server box (dm500) click on that and then click on enable ,job done. now here is port tool from dyndns.com
http://www.dyndns.com/support/tools/openport.html
where you see host and port first type in your dyndns hostname and then the port you have opened and click on send ,usually if a message comes back connection timed out the problem is one of two things ,the router firewall (which should be set to low ) or the port is still not open in which case you need to go back and review your router settings. the only other thing it could be after that is if your server box does not have a static ip address (you need to disable dhcp in communication setup on the server box) if the box does have a static ip check in your dyndns account to ensure that the ip address you entered when creating your dyndns hostname is the same as the ip in the server box.

Hello,
I'm looking to buy a dm800-se (with both dvb-c/s tuners) from a local supplier to use with my virgin media xl cable sub.
Am I right in saying that N3 will prevent channel decode by default but if I setup cccam I can watch channels on my cable sub? At the mo i'm not looking to share externally would just like to watch my own sub and stream channels to my laptop.
Am new to this scene but am willing to put the hard work in by reading through the information provided, I guess I'm just looking for someone to confirm that it's technically possible so I can justify buying the dm800-se.
Hope I've posted in the right place.

the only other thing it could be after that is if your server box does not have a static ip address (you need to disable dhcp in communication setup on the server box) if the box does have a static ip check in your dyndns account to ensure that the ip address you entered when creating your dyndns hostname is the same as the ip in the server box.
------------------------------------------
Thanks Pio
This is it i think.
I definitely didnt do this.
And i can't see how to do it either.
The only box i can see to enter an IP address on dyndns.com settings page, is for the external wan ip address.
Other than that there are a list of app's to use with my service. None look right?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
What do you want to use this host for?
Select services and devices you would like to use with this hostname.
Work From Home Office or VPN:
vpn remote file access remote desktop mail server web server chat server ftp backup ssh database voip
Hosting and Design For Web Sites and Blogs:
blog gallery wiki portfolio ecommerce web page
Remote Access For Devices:
dvr webcam data storage cctv printer alarm and security thermostat weather station game server home automation

click on this link
http://www.dyndns.com/
now you will see dynamic dns service highlighted in blue (click on that) and then click on create free hostname .and you will be here
https://www.dyndns.com/account/services/hosts/add.html
the first thing you will see is hostname (this can be anything you like )next to that you see dyndns.? (click on the little arrow and choose an extension from the drop down box) .service type is the next thing to look at (it should have host with ip address selected by default ,but if not select that option) below that you will see ip address (this is where you type in the static ip address of your server box. after that you should be able to go to the next stage without choosing an option from what do you want to use this host name for but if not choose game server. the next stage is creating your dyndns account by choosing your username/password and entering your email etc ,once that is done download the updater and install it in your pc and then open it and put in your dyndns account details username /password (it should then say synchronising ).
kayoshi sorry to say there is more to using a dm800c with your cable card than just installing cccam ,if it was as simple as that everyone would have their own cable server ,however you can use the satellite side for cardsharing with cccam.

you will see below the ip address (your current locations ip address is )so they have your external ip address ,so in the ip box put in the static ip address of your dm500s .after all its your box (with the card in it) that your clients want to connect to.

I have changed the cccam a few times trying to fix the problem, even with cccam set as 2.1.4 I am no getting channels. this has me beaten for about 7 hours now.

Perfect!
Thanks Pio, that was the problem...
I thought that that ip was supposed to my external wan address but as you say its my internal dm500s box.
So now its all working inside a lan, even though its searching externally for the dm500s server. Tomorrow i'll try taking my client dm500s to another house and hope for the best...
Thanks again Pio!
