Thank you for your opinion.
So, slide card more likely can damage the ps2?

But I think setting up the flip top is hard... and might damage ps2...
is what i think true?

Its really easy takes less than 1 minute, unless you unscrew the screws slowly. Get the fliptop no chance of breaking the PS2 except for the eject tray belt and than youd have to buy a new one.

So, you recommend me to buy flip top, right?
Hm... I guess flip top is better...

Oh, I have one more question.
Can I play ALL games by using flip top (and swap magic)?
I mean does it enable me to play new game(s) which WILL be released/sold next day, next month, or next year (whenever the game is released)?

Thank you

Not ALL game but yes it does allow you to play new games. People are working on SMD that do allow you to play all games and 1 has finished so far.

Ok, I found that this (flip top cover)'s much better than slide card.
But I still am not sure that I can make it.
So, I want to ask one more question.
Are there anyone who broke ps2 by taking of flip top cover?

Thank you for helping.

the only thing you have to worry about is if you have an older ps2. the eject/reset buttons are attached to the top. you just carefully take the top off, and the buttons just pop out. you just dont want to yank the top off because you could damage the ribbon between the buttons and the ps2.

Flip top can not damage your ps2. Unless your not that bright but all u doing is switching tops. My friend has one, its cool and all but i prefer having a no sodor cause it just looks cooler then a gay flip top.

I have a V4 and the ribbon was a real pain. I tried a few diffrent ways to tape it or get it out of the way. Finally I did manage to get the ribbon out of the way. However no matter what I did, if you looked thru the screw hole in that corner you could see the ribbon cable. So rather than to mess with it anymore, or risk piercing the cable I decided to leave the screw in that corner out, and I put the rest of the screws back and haven't had any problems. I'm pretty sure that one screw will not make a diffrence. After all there are still seven more holding it together.

Can you tell me the best site where I can see how you set up the flip top please?

And, do you have to do "Swap Magic" to play American games?

You have to use SMD for all backups. This is a nice site for installation I didn't need a guide it was easy.

I have a somewhat involved question and I'm really hoping someone might have some suggestions, because I'm just about to give up.

I have a flip top cover with a v4 ps2 and swap magic discs. The installation of the cover was pretty easy and that part works fine, however no matter how I back up games they always generate a red border on the Insert Disc screen. I have read that DVD Decrypter works in ISO Read/Write mode and thats what I've been trying lately without success. I have a TDK IndiDVD 2.4x DVD+r drive with Verbatim and Memorex discs. I read somewhere that v4 ps2's and earlier may not read the DVD+R format, so I borrowed a friend's -R burner and tried that last night, still without luck. Does anyone have any ideas at all why this isn't working? After 6 or 7 coasters and no hope in sight I'm beginning to wonder if its ever going to happen.

Slunk 34 what speed r u using for writing. If you use anything faster than 1 speed it might not work. Also make sure the disc spins freely when u set it in, using the fliptop. Also if you have a friend that also uses backups, try any one of his that you know work on your system or vice verca try one you made on his modded ps2.

Good Luck

HEY SLUNK
I have a friend who tried to use the dvds you have and he said it wouldn't work. Also depends on your systems condition. He has buddies that can't play certain games cause they have old PS2s and 1/2 the backed up games won't work. Can even be the burner your using Ive heard that certain burners just won't cut it.
I burn at 4X Pioneer 106 Alcohol 120 and use meritline, beall, accu, DVDpro, Opto Disc, and Ritek DVDs. It's always good to try a diff brand DVD with some games. For example my friend couldn't get GTA VC to work with DVD pro so he used a diff brand and it worked fine.

oh and make sure your using DVD minus not plus. Seeing how Pioneer invented DVD minus your best bet is to use a pioneer drive

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if my DVD drive isn't up to the task. I bought it back when DVD burners were new and exciting, and from what I can tell it doesn't even support burning at 1x speed, only 2.4x. Also the + format limitation is getting a little annoying. What confused me was how the backup didn't even work when I tried it on a friend's new DVD-R drive, however because I was in a hurry I set it to 4x, which might have caused a further problem.

The question now becomes, do I pay $150 for a new burner on the off chance that it MIGHT work, without there being any way of knowing for sure. I guess I'll have to wait a little while and see what happens. Thanks for your help.

for PS2 games you pretty much have to use DVDR minus. Stick with a Pioneer drive because like I said earlier they invented the minus format and are by far the best drives to use for games ( so it's seems so far). I always burn at 4x.
