Wow, I guess I touched on an old nerve with the question, but thanks for the 2 options. I?ll look in to both programs.

You didn't do nothing.
dailun was just pointing out that there is a free app that will get the same result as the 50 Euro app that mik30 has suggested.
So take the advise both gave you and ignore the rest. In the end it will be your choice.

Ok, there are over 100 pages and I'm not reading all that.
So hopefully someone can help me out.
I searched for the LG drives, but they are not sold anymore.
I am wondering if there are any other DVD drives that can read wii games? What drives are available now that do this.
I want to install Homebrew on my wii.
Buy the wii games I want, back them up, and bam!
Thanks in advance.

Hey all.
Could someone just confirm this this will work:
So to burn an image i open 'Nero Burnining ROM' then open the ISO which will takes me to the "DVD Image" options. From there i only have ticked 'Write' and 'Finalize Disc' then set the speed to 2x and off i go.
I havnt done it yet (got no DVD-R's on hand, but would doing that work?

Anyone know what my options are to fix this?

Sorry for the dbl post.
I forgot to say this was all softmodded btw.
So taking out the SD card and back up game seems to have fixed it, based off a search i just did it seems like its a common problem? Pretty lame...
So now i've just messed around abit and it seems that i cant boot the console with a back up in the drive, even when i quit out of a game i have to the disc out a preloaded before going to the Wii main menu.
Oh well, dosnt really bother me that much as long as its working.

OK I have a backup playing problem that I can't resolve after numerous searches (here and elsewhere).
I am trying to get a backup to load on my wii (homebrew, backup launcher, and neogamma all installed). I have firmware 4.1
I made the iso of madden 08 using dvd dumper 1.2 and had no problem burning the iso to disc using both nero and imgburn.
So here is where things go wrong...I put the disc in the Wii and load backup launcher (or neo gamma, same problem for both). The disc spins up and the screen flashes black then green, and then the white warning screen comes up (the one that shows the hand holding the wii remote (the same one that comes up for every game)).
The system locks up at this point and I have to do a hard reboot to get it going again.
Any suggestions on what is going wrong? Does the game iso for this game need to be patched before burning?

According to the backup launcher compatibility list HERE this is 1 of the games that have an issue playing. It doesn't even have a fix listed.
On the SD/USB game compatibility list it has a Alt_Dol fix. Allot of the times the Alt-Dol fixwill work with NeoGamma disc method. Get more info on the Alt_Dol you need to use from the compatibility list HERE.
If you don't want to mess with any of that then download Madden 09 or 2010 and use that instead.
People really need to check out the compatibility list before posting a thread asking about a game. Doing a simple search on the compatibility list can answer your question 99% of the time without posting a new thread.

Larry,
Thank you so much for your time. I'm sorry about the question. I checked another compatibility list and didn't see it on there. I will try another game.
Again, thank you for helping me out.

Hello,
Do I need to get these special drives to burn ISO image of a game that I got off the internet or can I burn this ISO on a regular drive using Nero?
Also, do I need to download ISOs for ntsc format only since i'm in the US or can I get any ISO and play on my wii that I am planning to mod using the 4.1 guide by larry.
Thanks,

How about doing some research and find out. The information your asking is already out there.

Hello,
I am pretty good at following directions but am still stumped. Modded my Wii with DriveKey X4 (easy install - is there any way to tell that it installed correctly?), ordered a LG drive from foundmy.com, used rawdump to grab the DVD data, used IMGBURN to make the DVD (made sure the file size was exact based on first post), used 1x burn speed and have tried +R and -R.
Unfortunately, the Wii doesn't recognize the burned DVD's. Tried 3 different games on -R and one on +R. The -R DVD's turn the screen black and tell me to reset my Wii by powering it off. The +R just gives me a "Wii cant read the disk" screen.
My originals still play fine. Almost looks like the DriveKey isn't working?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
dave

Try burning at 4x with imgburn on the DVD-R. The wii for some reason reads DVD-R better than DVD+R
If you do use DVD+R, you need to make sure the BOOKTYPE in imgburn is set to DVD-ROM. Certain drives, imgburn will do this for you, but not always.

Thanks for the reply. Tried this already. Have burned at 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x on DVD -R, and the same on DVD +R afer changing my Booktype on my LG drive to DVD-ROM.
Beginning to think my DriveKey is screwy. Reading on Wiinewz indicates some of the "brown latch" drivekeys are bad. Mine is a brown latch. My Wii is like 2 years old so it cant be that it is a new board and not supported.
Thanks again for the reply. I have emailed "foundmy.com" where i bought it to see if they have tech support or will replace it.
Cheers,
dave

Okay, for those of you who are new to this a few tips:
1. Use high quality DVDs - when I used th TDK DVD's I bought at Costco two years ago, my modded Wii wouldnt even read them. When I bought new verbatium DVD's (-R) it would read the Title but not play the game - see #2
2. While you have your Wii open, get some rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip and clean your laser.
Doing both of those things above and my DriveKey modded Wii is playing burned games without any issues. The DriveKey tech support said a dirty laser is the problem about 95% of the time (vs. a bad DriveKey).
Have fun.

No, it's not possible without modding your Wii.
