Who cares how cool it runs as long as it is running well within specification. IF temperature is all that's bothering you than go to water cooling and it will no longer be an issue. A P4 idles at temperatures that would cause a C2D owner to collapse in a state of panic. Keep what you've got, spend a little more, or go to a dual core for higher clocks.

but nehalem will probably be the way to go for any future upgrade of mine....
for now, i am gonna run my q6700 at 1333mhz fsb (tape mod) and 6x multi (2.0GHz)+ drop the voltage to 1.25v

I'm not so sure yet that Nahelem will be a genuine upgrade from some of the current stock, especially if the current stocks prices come down. Nehalem will probably be clock per clock a real champion and is thought to be at least 35% faster than C2D clock per clock. Where I would have some concern is how much can it be overclocked? Because it has an on CPU memory controller replacing the FSB that has got to prove limiting. Remember that on CPU memory has to run at the same speed as the CPU. The memory performance will probably be off the scale compared to what we have now but CPU performance could be a non starter. For instance if♠ I can overclock a Q9550 to 3.7 GHz, how high does a Nehalem have to clock to match it? My advice is to wait until the dust settles and keep and eye on current CPU prices.

But I was talking about KRJ. I should have been more clear. I just thought you would automatically think it was him since he is the only one with a DS3L. Look up the Q9550(which he has) it's only supported under F8.
sorry i didnt get back to you guys sooner. i had to go to work. support for 45nm yorkfeild cpu's were added with the F6 bios. the F8 is for E0 stepping(i have C1).

i doubt that many people will be able to get that kind of overclock. most quads hit a fsb wall at or before 500. also the q8200 has only 4mb cache and no virtualization support. i would get a q6600 instead.

Haha Russ I thought you were smarter than that. Saying I am EVAR wrong just does not do.
Let's see. He is running more volts through that CPU than is safe with 65nm quads, much less a 45nm quad. I can guarantee the average person wont be able to OC it more than 3.4. Combined with the low cache and no virtualization support, Q8200= Bust.

Oh and look again. He did 3.6ghz with the Quad core. He did 4.2ghz with the E8400. He also used more than 1.5v which will kill both chips pretty fast.

For what? Overclocking? Stock? Mild overclock? Middle? Extreme?
Few good coolers like the Thermalright Ultra 120 and the Tuniq Tower Come to mind.

baltekmi, I don't know which Zalman you are using. But if you want by recommendations on cooling then get a Tuniq Tower or a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and lap both the CPU and Cooler for best performance.
