Okay, now, I am well aware the most common method of backing up PS2 games is via swap discs or a mod chip. Mod chips in PS2s are very hard to put in and you need a steady hand, however, I was thinking and I realized that the discs that are used for console games such as XboX and PS2 are in fact DVDs, however the book type is DVD-ROM. Now is it possible to not have a modification chip present in a console for example the PS2, and burn a DVD+R at a certain speed and booktype of DVD-Rom, and would work without a mod chip. I would greatly appreciate a response from anyone who knows, thanks.

yes it's true! I got a file about this fact but is so huge complicate for me! give me your email i'll send to you.

yes, my kids have been bothering me forever why I cant make backups of our games like I do with my movies, I always told them I think doing backups for ps2's is not like doing a movie, told them I heard that first you need a software that does games, like clone2 does movies, and that our game console like our ps2 and xbox needs something called a modchip, nobody in my circle even knew what I was talking about, finally i meet a friend of a friend that builds computers and said he knows what a mod chip is and said he never installed one but knows about the process, so I guess I need to know what program can copy our store bought games for a backup and can't think of anything special like you mentioned, just want to make a regular backup and need to know about the do's and dont's about setting all this up, and also hoping that the guy that said he can probably figure it out will know what he's doing of course.
Yeah I had to explain to my aunt's little ones about that lol. As far as the software, there is a free one named DVD Decrypter. I don't think AfterDawn hosts it anymore, so you'll have to search with Google to find it. So the guy you know is going to try and install the mod chip for you? That's cool, all it takes is a soldering iron and some thin solder to install it. And of course knowing how to solder and a steady hand lol. Some people use a type of liquid to ensure the mainboard doesn't overheat. Does he know how to solder? I'm an ammature myself lol.

somebody needed help backing up their PS2 discs? You do know dvd d*crypter or DVD Fab will do the job. And a nice stack of Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DVD-R discs. A good burner. No programs taking up your system processes, and that's about it.

Then, a good modchip or Swapmag1c disc. I've backed up over 100+ PS2 games, and thanks to Tokijin & his excellent FAQ, avoided lots of bad burns.

if you're a college student, do NOT settle with the RIAA http://tinyurl.com/37oz2z

i'm trying to do this now and having trouble. I downloaded FF XII, Bully and Okami torrents to replace the games I lost at college (that I own). I have Swap Magic Coder 3.8 and a slide card, and when I put any in (i've tried DVD+R and DVD-R) it says "please insert playstation or playstation 2 disc" with a pink sony background. what am I doing wrong? I'm using Alcohol 120% to burn the iso images.

You are definatly doing something wrong.

Is this how you are booting up.

Put in Swap magic
wait for it to load
then use the slide card to replace the disk
put the disk back in, slide card the thing back in place.
and hit x.

may be different as i am using 3.6, but it should be the same.

LMAO not fooling any of us! You lost FFXII???? Its been out for less than 2 weeks, Bully not that much longer ;)

Anywho, yeah the slidecard is a piece of crap, and will slowly kill your ps2. Assumimg your doing the process right, use good media and read through the guide to see how to burn correctly, cant be arsed to repeat the burning process for the 156th time.

@Psp

Whats the deal with the brick?

If thats what you are doing, i have no idea what the hell your doing wrong. It hshould not go back to the red screen of death. it should say in the swap magic screen, not go back to the red screen.

@stang

meh, i forgot about it, and i figured when i get a job, ill just buy a new 1.5

I'm going to try using imageburn instead of Alcohol 120% and re-burning from a fresh download of the iso.
