Some of the greatest games ever were on multiple disks and people didn't mind e.g. almost any really good psx game.
Since then most gamers have gotten accustomed to having games on one disk. So now I think most gamers find multi-disk games rather annoying.
Is that a factor in the choice of a console? I would say:
If I can play really good games that are all on multiple disks or have average to sub par games that come on one disk each I would choose the good games.
What they need to do is to find a way for you to switch the disks without rebooting the system then it would work out even better and storage space wont matter as much.

However, my opinion remains unchanged, Sony made the right choice by going with BRD.

ps3 stand more to my genres of interest, and them being on 1 disk helps. it saves load times, swapping, and allows streamless level loading where you could play forever with seeing the evil 7 letter word of boredom. its not like i couldnt handle multiple disks, but if i had the option, i would rather have one.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

also in other news, the ps3 launch is supposed to be 80/20, in favor of the 60gb model. smart, because most early adapters want the best they can, and a few other will try to pick it up or will want the smaller one to save.

Would you mind explaining how the BD drive at 2x speed (9MB/Sec) reading a 22GB Resistance: Fall of Man will cut down on loading times? Even being cached to the HD, the ps3 still has to read the disk and write it to the HD, and eventually all 22GB will have to be used. That's 90 minutes that can't be made up with smart streaming.

its up to the developer to find ways to cut loading times, and they have said they know of such ways. im sure they are pretty smart and would have thought it through. didnt sony require developers to keep the hdd in mind for anything?

They did. And as I said earlier, you can smart stream and cache data to the HD, but developers can't increase reading and writing speeds of hardware.
They aren't magicians, and whatever advantage the ps3 had for the hd is clearly lost (and then some) due to a 2x Blu-ray drive. And as the games get bigger, so will the loading times.

i keep reading everywhere that "ps3 load times exceed xbox 360" at first i did not believe them but then i thought wait a second who will i believe some guys from afterdawn forums who think ps3 has better loading times or the guys (ign, gamstop, etec, etc) in the industry, i will try and get a link.

PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

it can constantly stream from the instant the game is read, and it can load at first and streamless the rest. they would not say they are doing that unless it is fesable. i believe they are smarter than you and have a larger track record in producing games and managing code to be optimum. (talking of the devs for this resistance game and others like ut2004)

the xbox is slower in every other aspect imaginable other than the drive, such as the rsx and xdr ram, aswell as the cell (for this purpose, gaming, general purpose they love to brag of is needed so little and causes higher latency for the fast small coding of games). the drive can constantly stream from point a to b. but in the 360 the ram is allocated inneciciently throught the gpu, wasting some of its bandwith away from games to the cpu and other stuff when it asks for ram. that ram is only gddr3, far dwarved by the power of xdr, running at 700mhz. xdr runs at 3.2ghz, and has much lower latency for small tasks. gddr3 has high latency but can transfer huge chunks at once. little things take it longer. and the cell is great for gaming, with less general purpose and more quick calculations. i even read the cell can moderatly handle itself as a gpu, so incorperation of the cell and rsx together as the console gets a bit older could increase the graphics past the 360 to a more noticable degree.

Right. Well while I'll give you link after link explaining why the ps3 will have longer loading times, you continue to cite "developers who say it won't" even though you have yet to pull out any kind of publication.

Here's another link for you:

i told you, i completely agree with the slower drive speed, but overall it wont be a terrible difference when all factors get weighed in.

i knew the wii wasnt gunna be 199, it was obvious because the parts are more than that. 250 is a decent price if you plan on retro gaming. if you want a real next-get console (in terms of graphics and fast growing new game library) then 250 is not a price worth paying. i dont think ill get a wii untill its under 200. then ittl be for retro gaming on older games. i hope they made some older games have online capability.

Yeah. I think $250 is cutting it a little too close to the $300 xbox 360 price. At least they have Wii sports bundled with it, but honestly, I would've been much happier with a 200-225 system and they have made wii sports a low budget title.
No word yet on older games with online capability. I doubt it will happen in the near future. One can always hope, though.
As for the library, the Wii has one of the strongest launch line-ups i've seen in a long while. (imo) And considering that most of their huge games are scheduled for 06 or 07 release (metroid, zelda, mario, smash bros), I think Nintendo will have a rock solid year to follow.

"so incorperation of the cell and rsx together as the console gets a bit older could increase the graphics past the 360 to a more noticable degree."

lol, good old anubis, you still got so much belief in the ps3. i have to say i am impressed after e3 with a few games like assasins creed (now also coming to xbox 360), mgs4 and heavely sword, but i am yet to see this giant leap that cell will help the rsx deliver in graphics over the xbox 360.

"I think $250 is cutting it a little too close to the $300 xbox 360 price."

yeah 250 is a little risky, but i want to know how much it will cost in the UK, if i had to gues the price for uk i would say around 150 - 200. if it is 150 then i will buy it on the first day, but i do not have 200 to spend just like that, especially when i could be spending it on 4 xbox 360 games.
