thank god im not in europe. the thing is, the time is short but they already have everything else, and the production lines im sure are ready and are already producing what they can. when the other part come in higher quantities im sure month production will be into the 500,000's+, and i remember they already said they expect to build 100,000-200,000 before they mass produce. so for the release they are aiming at (usa and japan), it seems they will make a little fewer consoles than the 360 had at launch, maybe even break out even or with more. but we'll see. shortages are almost inevitable.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

U have any idea of the kind of problems a delay like this can cause. This is gonna affect the whole industry.
It's just generally shameful I think.
They really need to get the blue diode yields up.

how hard is it? i mean come on. this laser diode is not a brand new techknolagy.
my prediction:
drive failures
why?:
low yeilds of the diode mean many dont work. if one works for a little bit while they test it, it may not be good later.
what do you guys think?
also, remember, to back up HD-DVD and to be all "omg blu ray diode are in short supply. bluray will fail because of the delays!" (i remember people like this) means that you are an ingnorant fool. the two use the same diode.

Sony should just buy all those returned Samsung BluRay players and re-use the diodes for the PS3. ;)

Well I definetely thought that Sony would come up with something better than this. Nintendo and Microsoft are going to have a field day now.

ok.....let me just say this...i love sony......if i had the money to finance it...every electronic device in my house would be from sony,.....thats what my ps1 did for me in '98 , when i was but a wii lad. brand loyalty....same wit the ps2 and psp....
at e306 when the price was announced...it didnt shock me....theyve been warnin us since e3 '05 about it...
then the delay to november....that annoyed me...and the media scrutiny made me doubt them....but i came to afterdawn.......saw some posts got my spirits bak up..
and now this.
THEY KEEP LYING....wasnt it like last week or so...that kaz had an interview with cnet and he said they were ontrack for 2mil by november..he lied..they all lied to me
when i first read the news on kotaku..ithought it was a joke..iwent to 4 other blogsites and finally to afterdawn and thats when it sunk in
.....i hope they realise how many loyal fans they pissed off...wow...i expected better........i havnt completely written them off...like the 'angry gamer' post.....but...geez.......i wanted themm to kick microsoft in theyre asses this christmas and hav a nice co-existing console relationship with the wii....but no....no.....sigh...depressing...i still hope they have a trick up theyre sleeve...like since theyre only releasing a quarter of the units they said they would....maybe they'll lower the price to 500 and 400 since they wont have as big a loss if they were releasing 2mil units.........
do you know how much damage gears of war is going to do to them...wow..i shuddr at the thought..........yet still i want to play it......
and if I want to play it...i can just imagine..all those americans .....sad....
i still love u sony...i hope u come out victorious....eventually...but for now..i'm on the fence.........sigh...
........
...
i'm gonna go play xenogears on my ps1....maybe that will cheer me up

Well if it isnt anubis. Long time no talk.
How is it going?
Blaze87 I wouldnt be to upset, afteral its not like its your company or you own shares. What happens, happens but they all lie to us. Although Sony seem to do it a bit more than Nintendo and Microsoft when it comes to the consoles.
So the release date for Europe is March, does anyone know when it will be released here in Australia?

Ebayers in the U.S. and Japan will have a field day selling PS3's to the rest of the world in November.
Honestly, I don't think Sony will be hurt too much by the delay, We have all been waiting a couple of years for the PS3, another couple months isn't going to suade someone to buy a XBOX360 or Wii.

i don't think any one game especially gears of war is going to be a console seller. if it was possibly halo or another hardcore series that people go crazy for, maybe then it would sell a few consoles. but i dont think too many people these days are going out to the store and dropping $399.99 for the system plus another $59.99 just to play one game. seems a bit foolish, which is why i said earlier that these nextgen consoles haven't been anything special as of late.
before some get mad, take into consideration that the 360's launch and lackluster titles are reasoning behind this, add that too the other system (ps3) that only seems to be facing setback after setback. if anyone thinks that the ps3 won't have bugs and problems at launch, im not sure what world your in. i thought that the original delay and this past e3 were good things, but these statements as of late are not very comforting. worst part about all this and even though i am quite the playstation supporter, if my systems fails or has similar problems to those that plagued the ps2 i am going to be extremely pissed and BROKE $$$. lets not forget about the wii, a console thats info or secrets are more heavly guarded than the holy grail. TGS may lift the spirits though

the thing im most mad about is the ps3 is they said it would be ready last spring in full swing, but they delayed it 6-8 months. you would figure in alll of that time they would have been saving up blue diodes if shortages of them appeard evident. it suprises me even more-so that a well educated person in charge of a major company can be so *BLEEP* stupid. whats with you? how can you make so many uneducated decisions regarding your great grand child. maybe there are things i dont know of they had to deal with, but from everything they have told us, i could do better as ceo than this guy. alteast a better time-manager and efficient with my decisions.
i wouldn't blatently tell my followers that "we will have 2 millions units worldwide" and a week later drop that number to 500,000 and to release in just two countries, delaying everyone else. i wouldnt hide problems from the public, if something goes wrong they need to know so they can support you. if you hide all your problems from the public and try to handle everything yourself, they can get worse. when problems arise that the people take negatively, if you keep the reasons locked up untill its too late then they get pissed and feel abandoned. if you let them know over time they can expect it and have a rested mind.
but sony probably thinks "if we tell them whats up they will got to another console." so they wait as long as they can, hopeing people will say to them selves "ugh i've waited this long, a little more couldnt hurt. if they told us earlier, people could have lost the faith. they are smart in a way, because it keeps alot of people. but it also loses many, and those lost dislike sony much more than if they were honest about their dealings with the ps3.

Just to take it off the subject of PS3 delays, what is the point in all the three console creaters (Sony,Microsoft and Nintendo) slagging each other off and saying that they're the best of the three of them. I mean, it's a games console, and aren't they more interested in just earning a living than being the most popular. I've noticed that it seems Microsoft and Sony to always be at each other's throats and don't worry much about Nintendo, who are thought to be behind. Why can't they get along as all three of them are popular and are rich, isn't that good enough?

Three reasons:
1. Money
2. Money
3. More money.

My 2 cents:
Hello,
the latest news about the PS3 being delayed/shortages is not good, however, this will not stop anyone from buying a PS3. Even with high prices, $599, most parents will buy this console over any other since it is simply better to own that the other two. Dont believe me, just think, if price was not an issue, and you were stranded alone with one on an island, which of the 3 would you have? 99.99% of gamers would pick ps3. And that is why Sony does what they do. It is simply good business sense. They want to get it right the first time. A lot of people have been waiting for a year, a couple of months will not hurt them.
So everyone that says they are p* od and so forth, you know you will get a ps3 eventually and just love it to death. A year from now, we are all going to be amazed at what the ps3 can and has achieved.
out.

You have so much to learn about the business world my young jedi. You can't have enough money when you're like $ony or M$. The only reason for their existence is to make more money and more money and more money. The moment one of their guys says: "That's it - we've made enough profit. We can stop now." - that guy gets fired immediately. That's how it is in the real world my friend.

here is a tidbit from insomniac about the reported 20gig game resistance, don't think this part was posted yet
"Consider that even with compression, each of our 'levels' (or loaded areas) has more than 300 megs of unique data. And keep in mind that we?re also streaming data during level playthroughs. It doesn't take too much level data before you've gone past what can be stored on a dual-layer DVD. And between single player and multiplayer we have a lot of level data (over 40 different large loaded areas) ? yes, more than will fit on a dual layer DVD."
some more
"We also include a lot of data in the form of game movies in both HD and PAL formats, high quality audio streams for all supported languages and some of those Insomniac ?extras? that our fans have come to expect."

Well in reply to where I have been... Very busy with course work and assignments, plus internet went out for a month, but its good to be back talking again to you guys.
I read that article about Resistance before. It appears that as expected the Xbox 360 will face the fact that games will eventualy be on more than one disc which does put it at a disadvantage to the PS3 but doesnt mean its already lost, the games and other factors will determine that.
Its a shame that the PS3 and xbox 360 cant be melded into one so then you could be playing great games like Gears of War, Halo and at the same time have Metal Gear and Devil May Cry.
