hi all,
I am using a linksys wrtg 54 with a thomson 510. my pc is directly connected to the linksys by ethernet cable. the linksys is connected to the thomson. i as well did some adjustments at the linksys as on the thomson to get my emule on a high id.
but i cant get it right. i followed the instruction of the punisher1 but still no solution for me. i think it has something to do with the connection between the linksys and the thomson. can somebody please hlep me with this, because i tried a lot of things yet, but maybe i am looking in the wrong direction.
tnx so foaar

G101, this thread is for people who are using a router to split their hi-speed internet, and are having trouble getting HighID in eMule because of it.

hi again!
I can't find the reset button... =/
I read the manual, pdf online version, it says I need to connect the router to my pc trough a cable, on the port that says console, to configure it.. and then use the PNC
(am I right?)
I instaled the PNC and tried, but it says the router needs to be connected on the same Ethernet network than my PC... I don't understand it.. they are already connected ... =|

nverlaan,
what is your broadband connection? ADSL, DSL or Cable?? according to your thompson 510 it looks like ADSL. someone else in this forum is having problem with ADSL. although, i don't see why that should matter but its also possible your ISP is blocking ports 4660/4670.
if you followed my instructions try using the emule default ports. remember, if you change (1) port setting you need to go back through and change all the ports to match.
TEMPORARILY, turn off all FIREWALLS (winxp, router, 3rd party). see if that fixes. if it does then there is your answer BUT you need to fix it and turn the firewalls back on.
i noticed you are running a wireless router (again it should't matter) but i've not tested this on a wireless router. if someone has please let me know if my instructions work on one. thanks.
another thing you can try is connecting your computer directly to your thompson 510 (bypass the router) and see if you get highid. a router is optional to use broadband but makes it easier.
how many computers are on your network? if more than one did you set up your router port forwarding for more than (1) ip address?

bossusa,
the answer to your question is no - not technically anyway.
however, some devices might have both combinded in one box but they do different things.
a broadband DSL modem makes the connection to your isp.
a router is optional and technically you do not need a router to connect to your broadband DSL modem.
what a router does is basically it takes your single ip address and splits it probably a few hundred times. without a router you could only use one computer on your highspeed broadband connection at a time. a router allows you to connect many computers up to your broadband at the same time.
other things a router can do is block specific traffic in and out of your network and/or computer(s).
a router can also serve as a firewall too.
there are other things a router can do but these are the basics.
hope this helps.

thanks darkflux for the link on woops's Zyxel Prestige 642R-13 ADSL router.
i opened the english version of the manual.pdf file. based on the manual it looks real confusing. logging into the router itself looks much different than a typical router. looks like when you set up that zyxel router you have software that adds an FTP client on the computer to log into the system and you have what looks like dos commands too (what??). sorry, woop that thing seems like a lot for what your using if for.
use this link that darkflux posted: http://www.libellules.ch/zyxel642.php when the page opens scroll down to the Manuels section. find your language and click on the blue diskette on the left. a pdf file will open. do a search on reset and see if that helps you either get logged in or find a way to reset it. i did a search using the english (anglais) version and it directed me to chapter 10-9.
although, the documentation seems good without the box in front of me its hard to say how to get into it and/or reset it.
i realize not much help woop sorry.

... seems I can't see any blue disketes to click on.. =S I can't get to those manuals.. =(
I got the cable, and the router is connected to my pc..
I got internet at home and the router as well as my pc as part of my dad's work.. He's kinda a.. tecnic where he works (yes, I asked him, he couldn't solve it =/) maybe that's why "that thing seems like a lot for what your using if for." =( how annoying..
thanks a lot, you're helping me =D
I'll keep trying what I can, be back when I find something.. [[]]

woop,
few quick questions to sling at ya'.
you say you can't find the manual files, but your previous post says "I read the manual, pdf online version". am i missing something? =-S
at any rate, in case you still need the file, here's a direct link:
http://www.studerus.ch/files/manuals/P642R.pdf this is the English version. they have French and German also, if you'd prefer one of them ;)
anyways, i was backtracking, reading your older posts (sometimes i miss some small details), and i remembered you said you had another router (wireless), i neglected to ask, you ARE able to get internet without the other (non-Zyxel) router connected, are you not? perhaps the distance between the PC and the wireless router is the issue (if you're using the "wireless" feature). this is sledom the case, but worth a shot. also, i don't think you mentioned what brand of router you have (not the Zyxel one). this may be helpful for later.
your first post mentioned you have ZoneAlarm, if at all possible, you should try uninstalling it temporarily. i have heard stories of people unable to get eMule to work with ZoneAlarm installed, and as long as your other router has firewall protection, that should be all you need (unless if you're using ZA for some of it's "other" handy features). if you do uninstall though, be sure you have a backup install disc (or file), and, if necessary, the serial number given for the program to reinstall it.
lastly, after reading semi-thoroughly through your manual, i have determined you do NOT have a reset button. the "reset" punisher1 mentioned, on page 10-9, refers to resetting the ADSL link to the ISP, not resetting the modem itself. kinda the equivalent of "disconnecting" and "reconnecting" when using a dial-up modem.
pun1 was right about it being "a lot for what your using if for." this DSL modem of yours is not only the complexity level of an IT Pro (i got "lost" around chapter 6!), but rather old, too, thus making alot of the more complex settings rather redundant. the cover says September 2000, which, while only 5 years, that's about 20 or so in PC generations (remember, Win 95 was only 10 years ago). if it was me, i'd just go get a different DSL Modem. then again, not everyone has the extra cash to do that, so, that's up to you.
anywayz, let me know 'bout some of this stuff, and i may have it figured out before long
yay optimism ;)

I read through the thread and tried all I could find in here, but I am still getting a low-id. I have a WRT54GS and a SpeedStream DSL router with firmware from March 2002 (I think we got it in 2003, the model they give now is different than the one I receieved for my subscription). I have "Block anonnymous internet requests" off as I saw in a guide on that port forwarding site, forwarded the 3 ports in that guide as well (the eMule guide on the site about port forwarding), and added some that eMule is using to connect as well as the default ports. I tried everything I could with my router and tried disabling Zone Alarm (and the router's firewall is off... should I turn that back on?) but I still get a low-id. What else can I do? What can I change on my DSL modem?
EDIT: I see that ZoneAlarm reportedly doesn't like eMule, so I'll try uninstalling and installing some other free firewall software.

How I fixed the problem with low ID in eMule for [Netgear DG834GT router/modem./bold]. Go to http://192.168.0.1, log in: admin, password: password. In "WAN set up" tick "Default DMZ Server" and add your IP adress (I assume everyone knows how to get it now - it had already been disscussed). I also ticked "Respond to Ping on Internet WAN Port" - dunno if it changes anything.
Then go to "Services" and "add custome service": name: eMule, type: TCP/UDP, start port: 4660, finish part: 4712. Then apply - it then works with all the firewalls and security software on.
Hope it will help someone.

Hi all, thought I would put the setup for the linksys wireless router WRT54GS
How to get hi-id in emule with the linksys wireless router.
First, to find out what your PC's IP Address is go to Start > Run and type CMD a command window will open up; it will have a black background and white text. At the command prompt; which, under XP Pro will look like C:\Documents and Settings\username> type ipconfig /all
Now you have the computers IP address we can set things up.
log on to router 192.168.1.1 unless you have set your own username and password, leave the username blank and use the password admin.
1. Select 'Applications and Gaming'
2. select 'Port Range Forward'
3. under Application type Emule
4. enter starting port =4660 or whatever your port range is
5. ending port = 4712 or whatever your port range is
6. Under protocol select 'Both'
7. Under Ip Address type 192.168.0.100 or whatever the PC IP is. Linksys routers start IP assignments at 100 up so the PC that you have the linksys attached to with a cable will be .100
8. Now 'Save Settings' and start emule up
9. You should now be able logon quickly and find your fav server ie Razorback2
These settings were adapted from burkeams settings on Page 2. many thanks burkeam for putting the settings up.
Hmmm!

hi all
i have a linksys router wag354g and after 5days without sleep i almost solved my problem.
this is my story
i have 2pc connected with 54mbps wlan.let's say that the first pc has the ip xxx.xxx.x.50 and the second xxx.xxx.x.60.
i have forward the port 4664 for tcp and the port 4672 for udp for the first ip and the port 4665 for tcp and the 4671 port for udp for the second ip.i have opened this ports on each emule of my pcs.i get high id on my pcs every time i try to connect with emule.
the problem
the first pc (lan connection) after 10 minutes (and above) the connection fails for 5-6 seconds and it starts again from the begining .
the second pc (wlan connection) do the same but after 1-2 minutes.
i shut down the one of the two pcs and i get the same problem.
if anyone have any idea please reply to me.
