I have done all that I swear to you, and I have double, triple and quadrupley checked it. Could it be the ISP blocking all the ports?

I have heard about some ISPs blocking those "standard" ports that BitTorrent uses. That is ports (I think) 6881 - 6889.

Now, with BitTornado and Azereas you can use any port up to 60000.. no I think up to 65000 (??), do not stay "down there" with ports. I used to use ports in the 17000 range but I read somewhere where it said high-ups were faster (I don't know about that) and now I use ports in the 54000 range.

And with either of the two programs mentioned, you only need one port. You don't need you do a range if you do not want to. With BitTornado if you want to be connected to more than one tracker (download/torrent) at a time, I think I read you then need to have more than one port in use, but since I do not recommend downloading more than one torrent at a time it doesn't matter to me.

Also with my router, a Netgear wireless G 54 Mbps, ports forwarded have to be specified for one computer on the home network (my previous router a netgear wireless B wasn't this way with the port forwarding). So the two computers I might use for torrents, each is set up with different ports (I do use BitTornado).

Now since we are grasping here, why not upgraded to SP2? Wow! You win the record for waiting.............. Just remembering the procedure, when you do upgrade, turn off everything - anti-virus, firewall if you can, etc, before you do the upgrade - and run anti-spyware right before you upgrade too. Despite the troubles you've heard about, SP2 has made my computer more stable.

And I am pretty sure you know what you are doing, but just in case not, torrents demand you use your upload bandwidth or else they retard your download. Hopefully you have at least 250 Kbps up speed (about 36 KB/s). Whatever you have, set your upload speed in your torrent program to be no more than 80% of that. When I was at 250 Kbps upload max 80% did fine which is 200 (25 KB/s), but now I am supposedly at 400 Kbps upload max and a setting 75% of that is better for me (about 35 KB/s.. 40 KB/s would be 80% of 50 KB/s (400 kbps). Also 6 connections for me. the default 4 would be OK.

Don't use any setting that say "automatic", try to always enter in a an amount (I am speaking from experience and using BitTornado, I don't know about Azereas)..

And a final suggestion, since again I'd try anything, why not try BitTornado? I know redscorpi is a hard-line Azereas man, but you shuld be trying anything here you can. The last time I downloaded (two popular torrents, one after the other) I got 3.5 Mbps (437 KB/s or 3500 Kbps) if you can believe it (I still can't), and the other was a respectable 2.2 Mbps.. But I have to say that sometimes 600 kbps is what I get. Getting to the magic mark of 1 Mbps makes me content. With unpopular torrents, like 1 or 2 seeds and 7 or 8 peers, it might be less, like 400 a kbps max I reach (It all depends).

Oh, one more suggestion, try turning off UPnP both in your torrent program and in your router (if on).

Whoops.. see why i am pissed off for them having two standards now? That should be abut 31 KB/s, not 36. 31 x 8 = 248 I hope, or 248 Kbps.

Sirius, post the upload and download speed your ISP tells you that you have, or check out your up/down speed here:
http://www.dslreports.com/stest/0
(A couple of different places near to you if posible)

Also tell us what speed you have set in the default window of BitTorrent where it says somethning like "max upload speed" and also underneath it should say "max connections". And to the left = what did you choose, "automatic", slow DSL/cable" or "fast dsl cable"?

What color is the status light - yellow or green?

Also in another window - what ports or range of ports is being used?

I have a question. (?)

I'm using bitlord.. there are quite a number of configurations here.. including:

Max connections per task
Connections to keep per task
Global Maximum Upload slots
Global Minimum Upload slots

Can someone explain?

I'm trying.

Sorry Inchack.. but consider that almost always you should do one torrent download at a time. Max connections default in BitTornado for a download is 4, or up to 6 for a real fast connection (400 Kbps up & 3 or 4000 Kbps down). So I don't think it will matter what you put there becasue you're going to do one at a time..

i only recommend changing the first two options (Max connections per task and Connections to keep per task). the reason is because when i use to have bitlord i had a problem where i would only connect to a fixed number of peers even though there were lots more peers to connect to. for example, in a specific torrent there were 200+ available peers to connect to and i would only be able to connect to a max of 55, and no more. this happened to every download. but as soon as i changed these two options i started to connect to way more peers than the usual fixed 55. so i suggest changing these two options to a large number, like 800 each.

i dont suggest changing the last two options simply cuz i, personally, never had a need to change 'em. but i think they just mean the maximum and minimum number of "people" or peers u are ACTUALLY uploading to (NOTE: not how many peers u are connected to). if u have 4 selected, then u will upload to 4 peers (out of the 200+ peers u may be connected to).

I have a Motorola SB5100 SURFboard cable modem. I have been using Azureus for about three weeks. I didn't really care about the speeds of downloads but then decided to try to increase them. After I changed some of the options, I went to the configuration wizard and reconfigured some things. I have tried to set the defaults back, and even reinstalled Azureus. The problem is the ones I'm seeding are mostly blue in health and the ones I download yellow, blue, and red. Of the four downloading, three are going normally, with the exceptions of their healths. When I restart it, it says in a pop-up: failed to listen port UDP 6881. I try the NAT/Firewall test and it says OK if I put in a new port and an error if I test the new port again. I've tried to port forward, but that doesn't chang anything. There's very little seeding and that seems to conflict with the downloading. Please help.

Of the four downloading
i know cable is fast but i think four downloads at the same time is a bit too much, even for cable. this is not like kazaa where u can have like five or ten downloads at the same time. depending on ur connectoin speed u should only be downloading like 2 downloads max, at most 3, i think. u can get a little bit crazier with seeding having 5 or 6 if u want, but not recommended. bottom line: it is better not to have a lot of torrents running at the same time.

azureus's Nat/firewall test looks at the port's TCP protocol, not UDP. if u forward a port, forward it in TCP and UDP.

I added both, for 6881 and 6882. I even removed some downloads but nothing's changed to the seeds. Now the two downloads left are yellow and two of eigth seeds yellow. The rest are blue. No green.

i had the same problems...what i did was in enabled the DMZ feature on my router although we are advised against that. My smileys on Azereus went from yellow all the time to GReen and speeds from 20-30Kb/s to 100-290 kb/s. I just got some Firewall software and ZOne alarm to protect me. You should try it.

anasastu windows xp comes with its own firewall. make sure u disable it or make an exception on it for Azureus. if u dont get a green light it means the port that Azureus is using is being blocked by firewalls/routers (sometimes modems). u gotta make sure these things are not blocking the port.
there is another port test u can do to check if the port u forwarded is really forwarded. here it is:
-go here https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
-click "Proceed"
-scroll down to blue box and type in the port in the space provided.
-click "User Specified Custom Port Probe"
-RESULTS: if the port test says "Open" or "Closed" the port IS forwarded (or open. whatever). if it says "Stealth" the port is being blocked by firewall or router or modem or all.

I've tried that twice before. 6881-6899 are stealth. I think ALL may be stealth. It says I passed the stealth test. The standard firewall has always been off, so that's not the problem. The thing is, I have McAfee and Norton and I can't find out how to open ports on those.

Hi I'm new to this file sharing thing so sorry if this is something stupid. I was trying to download a 200mb game yesterday through Azureus with a dial up connection (56kbs).That the only connection available in my area. I can't get the download speed to go faster than 1kb. After 8hrs the downloaded percent is .2. Am I doing something wrong? How can I speed up this process? Also, how can you change the # of max peer and seed? Thanks.
I checked and learned that my download speed is 41kb/s and my upload speed is 21kb/s which turned out to be 1.8 according to "red..."(name).

I need some help here.
I've read every single post, all 40+ pages and nothing is helping.

I'm using Windows XP and Linksys WRT54G Router. I'm using ZoneAlarm Pro 5. I'm on a 2000Mbs connection, which effectively means that I can download at 250 KB/s but the max I've reached is like 30 KB/s over 3-4 torrents. It's like 15 KB/s max per torrent... I've tried everything and my BT speeds are still as slow as ever.

I've tried downloading a huge file from a local site and I can download at about 230 KB/s plus minus steadily.

- I've flashed my Linksys Router firmware to HyperWRT 2.0.
- I've restarted and rebooted my router tons of times..
- I've tried enabling DMZ, still no help.
- I've reformated my computer. (Last resort, just last night)
- My window's XP built in firewall is disabled.
- I've forwarded port 1 - 65535 in the router to 192.168.1.1 & 192. 168.1.100
- Capped my upload speed at 25 KB/s
- I've used BitTornado, BitComet, Azureus..
- I've checked the NAT site and all my tests failed.
- I've check https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 and all my ports are stealth, even with my firewall off (and uninstalled).
- I have uninstalled ZoneAlarm 5 totally and it still didn't help. (I've switched back to ZoneAlarm after I reformated)
- I've checked my modem model and apparently it doesn't block any ports or something..
- I've called my ISP and apparently they tell me they don't block any ports.
- Turned off and on UpNp (don't have a clue what is it) in my bittorrent client(s) and on the router.

Argh..! Help? Would be so grateful if anybody can offer me a solution. I'm about to buy a long long wire to hook the modem straight to my computer if all else fails..

when you enable DMZ it should work right off the bat. Did for me. Now all these things you did. Do you have good seeds/peers? are you getting green smileys in Azureus? I simply left the default port of 6881 and didnt need to forward anything, just enabled DMZ on my router and it was smooth sailing. IF you did this and nothing happens then i dont really know what to tell you. so answer those questions and i'll get back to you.

PS you said 2000mbs are you sure thats correct? thats mighty fast there..i have a 4.7mbs connection n the fastest i've gotten is 590kb/s which is pretty damn fast..get bak to me.

There are so many guides out there and none of them are any help to me whatsoever. I have been looking for the answers for weeks but nothing..

- I have a firewall (McAfee 2005) Where I have forwarded the nescassary ports

- My internet is a DSL connection of 576kbps (55kbps max on BitTorrent)

- I phoned up my ISP and they do NOT block any ports.
- I have limited my upload to 23
- I have tried different ports and tried forwarding them (I've even tried turning my FireWall OFF)

Yet.. I'm still receiving a yellow-smiley on Azereus.. and getting the NAT error when I attempt to test the port (On Azereus)

Any help greatly appreciated.

-Mike

dunno really. I would think it depends on what modem your using. Or maybe your ISP. What router do you have?
