CD backups with Taiyo are perfect. I tried my Taiyo-made Maxells, and they worked. NinReznor, PM me with the results when you burn on the Taiyo media.

Does the DVD drive play a major role in burning backups? Even if I have a Yudan's with a Lite-On drive will I get a good burn or mixed results? I have some Taiyo's comming in later and I'll give my feedback as well.

It depends more on your burner's firmware. If it's not up to date, or if you have problems with your current firmware, you will have a lower quality burn than normal. Plus, since you have a Lite-On DVD burner, you can get some DVD+Rs and booktype them to DVD-ROM. It will be easier for your PlayStation 2 to read the backup.

Why "wow"? Did I make it too complicated?

Could be, but to me, it sounds like what I said is too complicated.

And it's also against the rules. But, ddp, I have to admit that I double-posted, but not to get myself up the ranks. What I did is that I clicked "Back" on my browser to edit a post, but what happened was that it posted another message. I edited those out with appologies(in my guide to the Cardboard and Straw MOD). Seriously, those were unintentional, I'm saying the truth here.

I found at the local store in some taiyo yuden discs under the brand city disk. They are very cheap (half price compared to TDK). The shop is reliable (university shop). I ran dvd identifier on 1 of the DVD-R and found the following results. Can an expert tell me if they are genuine taiyo yuden?

doesn't look like the best media to me, I'd suggest you spend a bit more money on DVD-Rs instead of going for the cheap stuff that'll ruin your laser

No copying your friend's games is illegal, you should *cough* never *cough* do illegal things.
You need a modchip/swap magic to play *cough* legal *cough* backups, and advantage of doing this is a DVD-R is VERY cheap compared to originals (cost of modchip is about the same as original, and swap magic is cheaper)

http://www.teammodders.com/ are pretty good doing installations I heard.
Using a modchip is simple, you just put your backup in the PS2 and play away. It's good cos you get to backup your originals so you won't risk scratching the originals. The cost for replacing a backup is less than $1 if you do scratch it
