Do you know what the Disc ID is? I'd say stick with good brands like Verbatim, Sony, Taiyo Yuden (Japanese brand). You could of course buy a pack and try it out yourself if you want

You could always buy a pack and if it's not good leave them for when your friends ask you to burn something for them (that's what I do :P)

my theory on that is if they want me to burn something for them, and they are too cheap to give me a blank CD/DVD for it, then they can't really complain :)
TDKs are ok, the problem with TDK is that there are quite a few fakes out there and it's hard to tell what's real and what's not unless you get them from a reputable store

I agree, anytime I did some burns for friends they always offered to reumburse media for me, if they didnt offer I asked them to, it's only right, also as far as crap media, like tdk or memorex, well after joining afterdawn about a year ago I did learn to by good media like ty etc, so many people can't be wrong, but I must say before I started to buy good media I always did use tdk and memorex, I have been burning for about 5 years now, I quess I'm one of the lucky ones, every one still plays with no problems at all.

[EDIT] wow...i backed up nfs most wanted on a taiyo yuden dvd, and it had major loading problems (in game)...so i thought let me try it on this disc...so i burned nfs most wanted on this disc, popped swap magic, then the game in, and the game is flawless, loads nice and fast, and no in game loading no more, looks like these SONY08D1 discs are good...haha still funny how they are "GQ" brand...
...i guess i was lucky?

could be fake Sony that you got lucky with... but strange that it works better than the TY though.
By Outsourcing I assume you are talking about DVD manufacturers? It's when a company like Sony gives the work to someone else to do it, and then sell it under the Soiny name

I just bought TDK scratchproof (100x more scratch resistant) DVD-R discs..
Could anyone tell me if this is real good media to burn my ps2 backups on?

I'd be inclined to say no they aren't..Try them and see if they work. The ps2 is like the xbox in this respect, a lot depends on your laser. Very often that is more of a deciding factor whether a disk works or doesn't than the quality of the disks. I find that cheap disks work well in some drives and not others, but the readability from most TDK isn't good. It seems to vary on a batch by batch basis. Do some read/write scans with nerocd/dvd speed and look at the output. There is a huge section on cd-freaks about disk scans and quality media too.

I just have my matrix infinity chip.. And on some way.. I am afraid to burn and play backups cause I heard a lot bad storys about lasers which get destroyed cause the dvd discs used were bad. (should I be afraid of using bad discs?)
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
On the first page I saw that topic, it said TDK was the best..
I also dont know anymore.. What is better for ps2 DVD-R or DVD+R?
I dont really care about the price of the DVDs aslong as its best for my ps2 laser.
