when i download the torrent i just save it to my desktop (im very lazy so i dont go to a specific folder) and when the computer was restarted i opened Azureus again then the download continues automatically and thats when it started to go 5 kB/s
I don't know what is going on then. If I have interupted the filesharing and come back it starts out slow again but builds back up to speed in several minutes.
I am curious did you have the same number of sharer's in your download circle when you came back again?
A very wild guess:
Maybe somehow you got marked as troublesome and they won't connect to you a 2nd time, or your settings excluded them...
Try BitTornado to see if you have the same problem. Azureas gets high marks, however I have noticed posts in threads where a couple of times Azureas just wasn't working right for whatever computer and stuff those guys were using.,..

biggermac,
i think you should write a guide for bit tornado like I have for Bitcomet and J-Kwon has for torrents. You have written over a 100 posts in this thread alone, it would be easier to point people towards our guides.

Thanks but there is some stuff i don't know about well enough to do that. I know what works for me.
I can basically describe sharing but I don't know the technical. Any guide should do except the present BitTornado one tied to this website because it says set upload max to 90%, not 80% or even of course 75%. BitTornado's main (default) page only has two settings to screw with and so it's easy for me ('Max upload speed' and 'max uploads'). Get back into the sub-settings on other pages and I am not aure if my suggestions are that right or not.
Like for example whether to leave UPnP on or tiurn it off. I know XP can do it and I think Win 98 cannot. But does it make a difference on a Win XP machine and if you use it do you still need port forwarding forwarding? I am not really sure what it does except it stands for (I beleive) Universal plug & Play - does it affect files sharing or not?.

I was fixing this up for someone the other day, and I had noticed BitLord was in this firewall's block list!
Make sure you that you forwarded ports (http://www.portforward.com) and
that you configured aby router you might have, and have set an upload limit.

hectik,
Do NOT use ports 6881 etc, they are blocked by most clients, trackers, adn ISPs. Use a random port like 54546, etc

Hey guys, wonder if you ca help me. I had Azureus working a treat and it slowed down to <1kbps downloads over the last week. No idea what it is, have changed ports and uninstalled to no avail. I'm using a wireless usb adapter from my router, and don't see what could have changed to make my downloads so bad.
I have a 512k connection and a pretty good pc. Please help!
Thanks

You have it firewalled how? A router which is a hardware firewall or a software firewall program such as Win XP's SP2 firewall or something like Zone Alarm or Norton? Or both?

Hi
I'm not really up for the idea of changing my firewall to make my download faster but I know how to change the pot range. Does anyone know a good port range for a better download?

OK THIS IS FOR EVERYONE I'VE READ ALL PREVOIUS THREADS. I USE BITCOMET AND IT DOES DEPEND ON THE POPULARITY OF THE FILE. I HAVE WINDOWS XP SP2 WITH THE FIREWALL TURNED OFF. I HAVE A LINKSYS ROUTER. I'VE NEVER CHANGED THE SETTING OR PORT FORWARDED OR ANYTHING. SOMETIMES I TOP OUT AT 180 KBS A SEC. MOST TIMES IT'S LIKE 20-30. I HAVE MY UPLOAD SPEED SET AT 5 KBS WITH MY UPLOAD SET AT LIKE 900KBS. I DONT' THINK THAT IT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH PORT SETTINGS, JUST THE POPULARITY OF THE FILE.

Yes, 8 firewalls. Good computer. I accidently ran 2 software firewalls once - couldn't get on the Internet.
And of course you do not even mention what firewall program that you are running. I can assume that you do not use a router and your computer is plugged into the modem directly.
No one asked you to "change" your firewall. If Windows XP's SP2 firewall, the easiest way is to click the "Exclude" or "Exempt" or whatever the name of the command is. Several program would be listed in there, like MSN or Yahoo Messengers, for example. and then you exclude the BitTornado engine if not already listed. So the firewall will not engage for those programs as far as I understand it. That's how i have mone set up. Then in my router (hardware firewall) I port forward. On the Pentium 3 I don't use a software firewall, the router is good enough.
Otherwise you need to find wherever/whatever firewall you are using and exclude it as mentione above, or in either case, where it says "port forward" somewhere in your firewall program, then you list the port or ports BitTornado is set to use.
If you are a newbie to posting in a public forum asking for help, then some advice - in your 1st post list everything you know, programs, ports used, settings of BitTornado, etc - even the operating system (version of Windows). If you don't know anything, say so. And if you aren't a newbie, you are either lazy or are being purposely evading. Can't read minds, you know..

Daleweb you are not reading what I said or you aren't savvy enough to understand it. A router is a physical thing, and thus it is "hardware". A router is also a firewall because of what it does. A hardware firewall. Then there are computer programs - "software". There are software firewalls specifically designed to be a firewall. They are designed to let things out (like connected to the Internet) but don't let just anything in. This is through "ports" (holes). There are like 65,000 ports.
You are firewalled from the router whatever else is a firewall too. The most troublesome would be the router because it isn't ctualy designed to be a firewall though it is and thus isn't as intelligent in knowing what to let in or not.
You need to log into the router and "port forward" the ports BitTornado is using. What this does is specifies the ports to say "OK, let stuff in through this port". If you had no fireall, then all kinds of crap floating around the Internet would get in and mess you up - lots of evil stuff on the Internet constantly trying. There was a time when having no firewall wasn't such a critical issue. But it's now 2005 almost 2006..
Norton SystemWorks 2005 I have - part of this is the anti-virus. It shuts off the Windows XP firewall when it turns on it's own worm protection and other crap - so still, you only have one software firewall running or else there would be conflicts. You need to exclude the BitTornado engine in Norton there somewhere.

alright alright,
To be perfectly honest I am only twelve and know a lot about computers for my age butthis is something that I dont really understand so I dont want to get to involved in turning things like my firewalls off or opening ports because I don't know what the outcome will be.
I have been on a few websites and have found out a couple of things like turning the service pack 2 windows firewall so it lets bit tornado through but it still says that it is firewalled.
If you cant think of anything other than what you already have done then I supposed I should just leave it but thanks for your help.

ok. I have read through EVERY PAGE of this thread. (seriously) and I have followed any and all hints and steps given. I am relatively new to this so bear with me. I am running os Mac osx, I have Azureus (newest). I have a variety of ports open in my firewall - at the mo I have 39935 (single port) open for Azureus. I have set up the same ports in my router and put in my correct ip address. I have the listening port set at 39935 in Azureus. I did the speed test for my geographic location (ireland) and it came back as 1.7 mbps download and 103 kbps up. I did the math and set my max upload to 8/9. I always get green faces (good i know) - i am downloading v popular tv torrents with LOADS of seeds - and peers. No matter how long i wait (hours) i still only ever get speeds of 5-15 kbps with the very occasional spike up to 40-50 (very brief). usually they stay around 5 or lower. my ports are not stealthed- I AM GOING MAD. I'm supposed to be doing a thesis here- but spending all my time trying to fix this- what could i be doing wrong? suggestions /advice would be very helpful. thankq in advance. oh and -hi!

ok.. I went and stopped all but one of my torrents that i was downloading- (i was tryin to d/l 3 at the same time)- now my speed has jumped to bout 25-40- not very steady tho. is this the best i can achieve do ya reckon? as i said b4 it is a very heavily seeded torrent and i'm pretty sure all my settings are correct. does dwnloading more that one torrent at a time really have a drastic effect on speed? should i jst stick w one at a time? my isp told me i have a 1.5 mg download rate and 128 (think) up. speed tst run gives me 1.7 and 103. if 40 or so unsteady is my bst dld speed- wonder if i should switch to the slightly more expensive 2mg up and down isp. (by the way guys- i wish i had some of the prices u have listed back in this thread for bb. i pay 60 euro a mo. here (75 dollars?) and the one i'm thinking of switching to is about 30 euro more. but it would be worth it if i could get some of your speeds! i have only ONCE seen 80. and it ws gone so fst i think it was my imagination. sorry if these posts are a bit wandering- hungover monday morning. thanks in advance. (oh and not to kiss up to you all- but seriously- u are stars to spend so much time and patience helping us newbie's out! seriously its frustrating to hear some of the posts ppl put up - i mean come on all us looking for answers--- do the footwork----READ back in the thread!!!
thanx again

wow. that is very cheap. everything is expensive here (just as an example a pack of cigarettes is about the equivelent of 8.00 dollars!) I think I finally got my speeds optimized for my isp- i'm going betw 10 and 40- and even up to 55 or so for a bit. I think i may just have to have patience till the 2mg/2mg comes to my area (they said a few weeks but i'm not really optimistic). Upside is I've learned LOADS!! cheers all
