plus when you say
Quote:
...and since i dont have a wireless im not much help
why do you keep arguing????!!!
and the website you said everybody knows that! but after doing all of that the NAT error is still there

well first of all, opening ports in XP is pointless you might as well just shut off the firewall, second of all, if you dont have a router and your getting a NAT error, then you probably need to reinstall the OS (which is unlikely), third of all, if you read the entire error it, its a suggestion that it may be NAT problem, more then likely, youre trying to download a file that has NO SEEDERS and very few people sharing the file, and probably of the people that are sharing the file, they probably dont have a complete copy, which will give you the nat error, and the slow speed, try finding a file that has 30+ seeders and 50+ leechers and see if that will fix the "NAT error" issue. Fourth of all, i dont have a problem with my computer, you do. I dont have to give you any suggestions, im not getting paid for this, so you should be grateful with what help i am giving, now if you really want me to fix your problem , ship me your computer (postage prepaid of course), and i will have no problem charging you alot to fix it, and shipping it back to you, payments can be made via paypal. Other then that, SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE.

billgate you sound pretty useless.

but i also have a question.. i opened up all the ports on my router, set a static i[p.. but nothing worked..

so i bypassed the router and connected straight to the modem..

still nothing works. what the hell is going on? the modem should just download fast without any configuration right? or do i need to configure it. its a belkin cable modem. i check to see which ports are open.. but only 6881 is open.. and nothing else. i took off all firewalls etc. any ideas

Hey!
I've just read all 47 Pages of this Post; and applied all the knowledge i got from this post yet my downloads have not increased in speed. My downloads range from 1kb/s - 50kb/s, on average it mainly sits on 10-20kb/s or less.

What i'm working with:-
ISP:- OPTUS CABLE (Theoretical max download speed ~ 1MB/s // max upload speed 15kb/s)
Modem:- Motorola SB5100 (Surfboard Cable Modem)
Router:- D-Link DI-704P
OS:- WIN2000 SP4
Torrent Program:- Bitcomet 0.56
Firewall:- Norton Personal Firewall 2003
Network:- 3 PC's networked all with static ips; only my machine (192.168.0.2) downloads from torrent others do not.

Here are all my settings for my router/firewall/bitcomet

Suggestions/Comments or any Help would be greatfully appreciated.

Thank you,

Dom...

let me say this, lets just assume for all intents and purposes, that your routers are configured properly, now there are still many reasons the download can be slow 1) very few "seeders" 2) very few leechers, 3) just because your ISP says you are a 1mb or 2mb line, doesnt mean that is the actual speed you will get, you would have to run a speed test on a local bandwidth speed test website in your area (me personaly i have a 6mb/768kbps line, i average about 5.7-6.1mb at any given speed test and i average 710-725kbps on upload). 4)It could be your ISP has the ports blocked, 5) it could be a routing issue meaning, you may live in UK and the person that you are downloading from, may live in california USA, which with the path that it takes to get to you may slow the speed down. Now i have my router configured and on 1 file, that i have downloaded, i got 640K which just about maxes my download speed, that was with 150 seeders and 500+ leechers. But for the most part i always max out my upload because people that download files dont want to share. Mostly my downloads average about 80K and some average 200K, so just because your not getting fast download speeds, doesnt mean its the routers fault. Its more then likely the stingy pricks that dont want to upload and share files.

Thx Billgates for the reply. I'm in Australia; i tested my connection its 840kb/s download speed (Optus are tight and wont give us more then 15kb/s upload yet I still share). I understand the whole process just wanted a second opinion.
DEATH TO ALL LEECHERS!!!
Share please; we all suffer not just you!!!
Thx.

Hey, i am having a few problems. i have a zoom x3 router but i have been unable to open the ports required for bittorrent. i looked on the consoles advanced settings but there was no tab for 'virtual network'

i know a couple of people who have or have had the same or similar modem but they inform me that the virtual network tab should be in the advance settings.

the situation i am now in is that i have no way of opening the bittorrent ports. if anyone knows what the problem is, please give me a nudge in the right direction. thanks

check to see if there is a firmware update for the router, if there is, then it will probably be in the new firmware

SUKHTHIND
Some more information would b nice? Router/Connection/Torrent client?

BillGates
Everything is a.O.K i've maxed speeds of 210kb/s. :)
It really matters on the seeders/location.

yrubinucf - That's great, if your flooding ur uploads that could b the problem. Try setting ur client to use 50-70% of ur upload speed.

In my case i found 7kb/s works fine for me. My maximum is 15kb/s; i've clocked speeds up to 370kb/s.

Hope that helps.

Hi, i have read the info about the port forwarding to get faster torrent downloads. I understand that i need to go to my IP address to forward the ports, but the problem is that i can't go into the IP address. Whenever i try to go into my ip address, it always comes up with "Cannot Find Server".

I have dial-up internet and is currently using ABC to download my torrents.

Can some1 plz help me

azn4life - Dialup modems do not use Routers; therefore you can't port forward.

domza8tor: thanx for the help...thats not my problem, i'll have one download with 95 seeds going 20kbps and another with 15 seeds going 65kbps (i would love the 350k+ downloads that u get but i'm alright with 100 and i think my max is about 100 anyways). i set my max upload rate to about 5kbps all the time and it helps tremendously but i was talking more about the ability with bit tornado to prioritize particular segments (or any other tweaks for that matter)
