ok i know this is getting annoying im sure, but i cant figure it out either.,
i have a belkin router, and i try to open ports 6881-6889 like everyon ekeeps saying.. there are even posts saying now to do it with a belkin by using the virtual server page..
and i did everything, but.. when i check which ports are open, only 6881 is open.. and none of the other ones are..
any ideas why? my bittorrent doesnt even download at all anymore.

jetyi83, as had been stated before, you must set up your network with a STATIC IP, then you can forward the ports you want open, i have a belkin router model# F5D5231-4, which is a 4 port wired router, it works fine as long as you set a STATIC IP.

ok.. i read that bittorrent only uses tcp, so you dont even neet to open udp..
nat error. just do a google search on it. there is another page on it i think.. type in google "bittorrent" "open" "Port" and your "brand of router" and these guides shoud come up
mine didnt work though so i wouldnt expect too much. i did everything i was supposed to do and now it actually slowed everything down.

well it seems I am in the same boat as jetyi83. I have a belkin router and I can't get BT to even start downloading at all. Well I have gone into my settings page (192.168.2.1) I set it to a static connection and filled in the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway then apply. When I do that I loose connection to the internet entirely. Before I did that though, I opened up ports 6881 to 6889 on my address (192.168.2.44) and enabled TCP. Win XP's firewall has always been turned off and I'm not running any extra firewalls. I've tried putting my address into the DMZ host, but it doesn't make any difference. I've also just tried turning off Belkin's firewall entirely.
So? what's the trick to this? This is the second computer hooked up to the home network. The first one runs BT just fine with great speeds whenever I put it's address (192.168.2.90) inside the DMZ host field. But nothing helps THIS computer run it. Well this is probably like the most annoying noob post ever, but thanks so much to anyone who can help a network noob out, it's greatly appreciated!

you dont need to go into the static ip on your router configuration page. as long as you do it in windows xp it will be fine..
youre actually not supposed to do it in the configuration page..
but i have no answer.. i opened up the ports, diosabled my firewall, enabled my dmz for my static ip..
nothing worked so i called belkin and they couldnt figure it out either.
so im getting a new router.. they seem to give new ones pretty easily.
this is the 4th new one ive gotten from them.

that's BS haha...they are probably all working in the same manner, and mostly likely not deffective...I have static configured in my win xp settings...so should I leave it as dynamic in the belkin router settings? ....it's curious that it will work fine with no other settings but DMZ enabled on the first computer (my room mate's) but not my computer on the other side of the room.

well one of the guides.. never even mentioned it.. so i was assuming it wasnt needed, but then i asked the belkin customer service guys, and they also said it was unnecessary.

As far as the nat error, it sounds like its a wireless router issue, and since i dont have a wireless im not much help, but as far as setting a STATIC IP, it still sounds like you guys are doing it incorrectly, because you need the wins server ip from your ISP so you can still get internet connect (or for belkin router go to the DNS page in configuration, get DNS address and secondary address), or which you can get using the ipconfig /all command in a dos prompt on windows XP, and you have to set an IP outside of the range that your router dhcp uses (example for belkin is 192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.100, so you would want to set an ip of lets say 192.168.2.101 or .102 or higher as long as its outside of the original range ), im not gonna walk someone thru it step by step, i not getting paid to do that, i know you dont work for free, so why should I. The best thing i can say is go to http://www.portforward.com , they have the best tutorial for setting up a static IP for pretty much every router available. The object of you coming here is so you can read about it and figure it out yourself, not have someone hold your hand and doing it step by step for you, and if you do want someone else to do it for you, then call a professional.

ok well if you dont have a router how did you open ports, if you dont have a router then there is no reason to be getting a nat error, that would only come from having router with a nat firewall
