alright cool. im still learning how to completely fix the "corrupt wiikey" problem also.. since the way i did it doesnt work for everyone. but im sure someone on this forum found out how to do it but i guess i didnt see it yet. but if you try everything possible and it still fails, then your wiikey is in a state of suspension that is unfixable and youll probably have to get a new one. but lets see! you should be able to fix it. ill help if i find anything out

Originally posted by rafadawn: A GCOS Wikkey config disc is used when, because of a firmware update, the Wii, although modded, is not able to read a normal Wiikey Config disc (the ones from the official Wiikey site).
In that instance, we use the GCOS Config disc (look at the link under Resources in firs post) so that we can access the config screen and turn ON the Region Override of the Wiikey. After this is done the Wiikey will be back to normal.

I can't use the config disc without GCOS [ing] it. But does this mean I have to have a GC controller? I can't access anything with the wii remote.

Yes, you will need a gamecube controller for the GCOS disk. The regular config disks work using either a gamecube controller or the reset button on the Wii itself, but the GCOS versions require a gamecube controller.

Will the 1.3 config discs still work on the new firmware? I'm having trouble getting a 1.4 config disc to work, both my GCOS and non-GCOS versions don't. The GCOS version shows up in the channel but when I start it up, the console just resets itself. The non-GCOS version doesn't get read by the wii. However, my GCOS 1.3 disc is working fine. Any ideas?
edit: I've already successfully updated to 1.9s

I'm having some issues with the 1.9S padded update, It goes through the testing and says SUCCESS! PRESS ANY KEY. However, no matter what I press, it stays on that line and doesn't do the actual update.
My 1.4 config disc padded doesn't work since it's not updated.
I did the Padded Update US burned with IMGBURN at 2x on DVD-R.
Any Ideas what's up?
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP OVER THE YEARS THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST HELPFUL FORUMS EVER!

Did you press the reset button on the Wii?

Downloaded the update opened it with winrar didnt even filechop it burned it with imgburn on x2 speed using cheap fujifilm dvdrw and everything worked fine, been playing ssb for the last few days. Is the new config disk necessary if you have everything working and if so what benefits do you get form using it?

if you tried putting the gamecube controller in or turn it on (if youre using a wireless controller) while youre in the update or config disc, there are some people that it wont work that way. you have to have the gamecube controller in and/or turned on while youre on the wii menu

The Gamecube controller is in Port 1. I put the disc in and turn the Wii on, then select the GameCube Channel and the disc runs right.
I do not have wireless.
Does it need to be an Nintendo Controller I'm using the Air Speed Controller it works fine on all the other games. And I was able to do the 1.9g update no problem.

Hi.
I have updated my wiikey to 1.9s and my retail brawl now does read. But it is asking me to update. I had a fake version of japanese brawl bore that and did the 20% cut off power trick and it worked with no duplicated channels.
So what should I do now? I have a Australian PAL console. Should I run the hole update? (my wii is the latest firmware (we just got a update for wiiware coming soon)) or should I do the 20% trick again? or should I just start it and end it right away as my console already has the dual layer update software from the Japaneses version?
Please tell me asap as I am dieing here :D

lol it would seem rafadawn is the most trusted person on this forum. but its cool and believable tho
@Kerman
by the way. dev mode isnt what blocks updates. it is a separate option on the config disc

"by the way. dev mode isnt what blocks updates. it is a separate option on the config disc"
In theory that would be correct. But I know at least with the beta release of 1.9s, the resellers had to turn both dev mode and block updates on for it to work. I'd like to test it myself but all I have is a 3.2u Wii with nothing that would be high enough to install an update. Possibly could go edit the TDM file to say the disk requires a higher level and see if that would get an update screen, but not certain.

i guess that is true. but this isnt the beta release this is the full release so you wouldnt need to turn both dev mode and the block update option on for it to work

I'm glad to see that the Wiikey team didn't abandon us hehe.
I have a few questions I hope u guys can help me.
(My wii = 3.1U)
- Can I do this 1.9s update without having a game cube controller? Cause I don't have one...
- Does this update corrects the problem we were having in 1.9g, that when we tried to run some backups it said "unable to read disc"?
- Do backups of SSBB (ntsc) work without this update?
Thanks.
