1.9s gives your wiikey the ability to read the original Super Smash Bros. Brawl disc. it can also now block updates on wii games and there is another feature called dev mode, which info on that is somewhat unknown

Run the recover disc again. Then leave it in and try rebooting ... see if the GameCube logo shows up ... if not ... try resetting it again ...
Some people had to do this a few times (5 or 6) and then it worked
Other people had to actually run the recover disc up to twenty times ..
so do not give up too soon .. try again
Anyway, start reading here, and see how Scuba77er solved the very same problem with our help.
Ciao!

Thank you for the links and your help!
@Kerman:
In addition to following HunterX5's suggestion, you might want to burn you discs at 4x (Sometimes too low of a speed does not work well)
no problem ^^. glad to help
Ugh, No sucess, i tried two times extacly like this with the non padded at 4x speed.
1) Turn on Wii insert 1.9b recovery
2) Press Reset
3) Chill for 3-5 min
4) turn off wii, eject disc
5) put a backup in.... unable to read disc!

"Dev Mode: Remaps drive debug commands from 0xFx to 0x2x"
It has been a good while since my last c++ or assembly class, but could someone explain what 0xFx represents? I'm unfamiliar with what ending a hex number with x signifies. Is it the same as 0xF0?
Also does anyone know where I can find a mapping of the drive debug commands, Wiibrew has excellent mapping for the .iso, but when it comes to the drive I have no idea. Went through the header files of the openWii code to look and see if they had anything similar mapped out in a struct, but was unsuccessful.
Better yet if someone just knows what it does that would be even better, but I'm willing to look and test it myself if I could at least get a starting point.

So do we turn DEV mode off or on? I saw that it is off at default. Do you need to turn it "on"? What the purpose of DEV?

That trick was used to use SSBB backups from a different region without getting duplicate channels.

NTSC to PAL - yeah it's either already patched to PAL or includes the PPF patcher. And they pull the plug on the Wii if they are updating with SSBB on a console that is not from the same region as the game - to avoid region brick etc. from fully overwriting the existing firmware with the wrong one for the console.

Why fix something that works?
So far I'm reading how ssbb STOPPED working instead of how it STARTED to work :)

Links to Original and Filechopped/Padded update and config images are now posted on the first page.
NOTE: As stated, the config 1.4 discs, available as of now, work fine, however they still are not able to change the drive speed from 3x to 6x. We hope that the official release of these config discs tomorrow will fix this.

Original copies of SSBB didn't work on wiikey and now they do with 1.9s. That's the fix. ;)
Not everybody has the same media, burner, backup image and even the drives in the console themselves will vary in their ability to read DL. Nintendo actually offer a fix for that.
An update can alter media compatability sometimes though there are various other factors that can't be ignored, but it's not correct to say that it stops SSBB from working because if it did then how come my backup worked on 1.9g and continues to work on 1.9s? :)

Originally posted by cherrin: Try this, boot up your console with the recovery disk in and press "A" when prompted to get to the main menu. Let it set for 5-10 minutes to be sure while doing nothing. The disk will show no signs whatsoever that it is doing anything. After the time has elapsed pull the power cord out of the back of the Wii effectively "hard booting" it. Wait 10 sec. or so and plug it back in(the whole time leaving the recovery disk in the console), get back to the main menu and let it sit there for a couple of minutes. If the GameCube screen pops up in the Game Channel window then it was a success, Otherwise you will have start the whole process over again. Some people have had to do this a few times to get it to take.
Keep in mind that I had to do this a few times to get it to take.

If you've never updated, you have to update to 1.9g first then 1.9s.
then run the config disk 1.4
@ rafadawn (and anyone else that can help): Is there any way to recover my Wii, like GCOS, or any other methods? any help would be much appreciated.. I am running the non padded, written at 4X speeds 1.9b recovery dis, i turn on the wii, put it in, hit reset, waited 5-10 minutes, hit reset again, take it out, turn off my wii for 10 seconds, then put a back up and it doesnt read. I'm still trying to recover like this. (~'/*HELP*\'~)
Ive also tried many other methods that were unsucssesful.
