Any document created using Notepad will be a pure text file.
To change the file extension from txt to bat, make sure you can see file extensions in windows : link.
Originally posted by polyd8: argh, i dunno how to make a 'pure' text document. i think its a document which only contains letters but when i rename it i doesnt change at all, it stays as a file document

To filechop or not to filechop?!?!? ... that seems to be the question:
The fact is that any disc that will run as GCOS needs to be at least 1.35GB in size in order to run.
Now, in many cases Imgburn (and even Nero) will automatically use a compatibility mode while burning, therefore ensuring that the resulting disc is of the right size.
However in other cases, people will have problems running the image without filechopping.
So the choice is yours: if it does not work without filechopping, then filechop ... or viceversa.

This is what happened in my experience:
Burned 1.9s update in ImgBurn with filechop and then GCOS mode - Loaded up the update, but got Test Failed: Check Connections error
Burned 1.9s update in ImgBurn with just filechop - Updated perfectly
So looks like GCOS might not be good for this update, unless this was just a coincidence. I'll try the new configuration disc with just filechop and post/edit the results

hmm.. i updated to 1.9s and it still couldnt read SSBB. so i put in the new config disc an dev mode was set to off. so i tried SSBB one more time and it still couldnt read it. lol i only have one reason to post this. if your original copy of SSBB STILL DOESNT WORK, then try the update again and it should work just fine. at least thats what i had to do

Yeah, but I was just saying because the general advice that I've read says it's good to run these wiikey discs in GCOS mode, which might not apply for the update (still burning the config disc). The first post of this thread:
Quote: 7) Running discs in GCOS format will require the use of a Gamecube controller. I reccommend running the Config and Update files in GCOS mode since it seems to be very reliable that way, however, especially if you do not have a GC controller, you may opt to filechop the images and burn them normally (without making a GCOS disc). However, particularly in cases when you Wiikey seems to be experiencing problems, consider unning the discs in GCOS format.

Has anyone actually tried 1.9s yet? I think I will wait for a bit to see if there are any problems with it like 1.9g had....
I can't wait!!!!
I've updated to 1.9s already.. it made my SMG unplayable which worked on 1.9g beta and SSBB doesn't seem to be working as of yet.. my wii is PAL
Did you turn on Dev mode? When I turned on Dev mode and Block Updates, Original SSBB would get to the black screen with loading in the corner, but then get a green shutdown console error. Turning off Dev mode and the original would load. No idea what it does yet, so I'm just going to leave it off.
No dev mode on... for some reason SMG started to work again after a few resets and SSBB works now after reburning the iso without WiiBrickBlocker and using the PPF only.. this is for a PAL wii

I'm not sure if it was just me, but on my Mac, the links for 1.9s wouldn't work. A page came up with lots of random symbols and letters... Has anyone else tried it on a Mac?
I'm going to get 1.9s off a friend, so I'll try out then.

Originally posted by XSilvenX: Some guy posted a workaround on the psx scene forums. Supposedly if you mess up the wiikey via software then the Wii won't detect it and a RETAIL copy of Brawl will work. He says he tried it twice and it works.
- Get any update for the Wiikey 1.9b or 1.9g for example
- When the update is around 50-75% pull the plug on your Wii
- It should screw up the Wiikey and your wii won't be able to read burned discs
- Brawl should work
It's a sort of on/off switch for the Wiikey because if you want to play burned games again all you have to do is use the Wiikey recover and update back to 1.9g and everything should go back to normal...and Brawl won't work..
So recap:
Turn Wiikey off -
Do an update and plug out the console during the update to render the Wiikey's chip software useless. Somehow this affects Brawl's code that allows it to figure out whether your Wii has a modchip or not and the regular US RETAIL Brawl should work..
Turn Wiikey on -
Use your Wiikey recovery cd to fix the Wiikey and re-update it back to it's normal settings with 1.9g and also don't forget to config 1.3 to switch back on whatever you had..
I am not 100% that this works yet..I am currently doing this as I type just giving some of you guys a heads up. Yes it's time consuming as hell but it's really the only thing we have for now..atleast until the Wiikey team releases an update for the Wiikey that somehow circumvents Brawl finding the chip.
I will let you guys know if this worked for me in a few minutes.
I've done this method to play SSBB. and now that i se the 1.9s is out, im having trouble recovering 1.9b (recovery Disk) I'm Burning it on a Memorex DVD-R at 1x Speed on imgburn.
I fllow these Rules:
Turn on Wii with an original inside
i eject the original put in the recovery disc,
hit reset
wait 5-10 mins
eject the disc, and put a backup in and it won't work!
I need Help guys.
btw rafadawn.. thanks for the updates!

well i had the same problem. and i fixed it so maybe i can help. try downloading the recovery disc (not PADDED) and DO NOT FILECHOP IT. just leave it as is and burn it to a DVD. do the recovery method and if it doesnt work the first time then try it again. it worked for me and some other people (the people that told me) but if that doesnt work rafadawn will be able to help

Thank you for the links and your help!
@Kerman:
In addition to following HunterX5's suggestion, you might want to burn you discs at 4x (Sometimes too low of a speed does not work well)

Quote: WiiKey Update 1.9s
This is a cumulative update for wiikey, fixing a few bugs and adding some new features.
Bugs fixed
-----------
- Issue with original Super Smash Bros Brawl discs not working fixed
- It should now not be possible to render the chip inoperable by using patched config discs
New features
--------------
- DVD update blocker: A new config option to block system updates from DVD. This
prevents the Wii from loading a system update for another region.
- Dev Mode: Remaps drive debug commands from 0xFx to 0x2x
