Hi, I'm looking for some help on backing up some PS2 DVD Roms. I installed Magic Swap 3 w/fliptop lip on my PS2 Slim. I downloaded DVD Decrypter insert "Winning Eleven 7" DVD Rom in my DVD Burner, clicked (ISO> Read R), it put a image in my harddrive, then I clicked (ISO> Write W) on 4X and it burned a backup of Winning Eleven 7. I put in the Magic Swap DVD Disc in my PS2, when it loaded up to the (Load Program: Video Mode:Normal) screen, I open the lid and replace the Magic Swap Disc with the "Winning Eleven &" Backup DVD, and push X. The screen says it"Not a valid PS2 disc".
1.)What am I doing wrong?
2.)Did I install the fliptop lid wrong? because when I leave open the flip lid and run an original PS2 game, the game doesn't start it goes to browse and I can search my memory card only, like as if the PS2 knows the lid is open. I though the fliptop lid was to prevent the PS2 knowing that you are opening the lid to swap out the disc?
3.)The read process of Decrypter made 2 file in my harddrive, a 5kb MDS file and a 3,451,168kb Winrar file. Do I need to extract the Winrar file? before I burn the back up, I just select the 5kb MDS file during the write process, is that the correct choice?

Man their's just way too many questions to answer them all individually. For a general FAQ getting started in the world of PS2 burning, check here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193 That should answer most of the beginner questions.
Pirated I don't no what's wrong with your PS2. If it won't even boot there isn't much you can do. You need to be careful when rooting around in there. You may just need to buy a new one. You can find em for cheap at pawn shops. I'd avoid getting them off ebay. In that FAQ there is a link with some reputable sites for premodded consoles, if you're interested. Everyone else consult my FAQ.

Well I don't know anything about the PSP, these are PS2 DVD burning forums. The 50 cent game is DVD-9 or dual layer. To burn it to a dual layer disc, you need to use it with a modchip that supports dual layer games, like the Matrix Infinity or DMS 4. To use it with Swap Magic you need to rebuild it to single layer or DVD-5. Both those are covered in my FAQ. Read my FAQ. It answers all the basic questions.

You only need a dual layer burner to burn dual layer games. Of course you can play copied games in your PS2 if you have a modchip. What kind of modchip do you have?

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
18. Q. How do I shrink a DVD-9 game to DVD-5?
A. This differs on a game to game basis. Typically when shrinking a DVD-9 game to fit on a DVD-5 DVD, you'll want to take out FMV's, dummy files, and extras. Not all games have dummy files. For popular games search the forums and you'll find some nice rebuild guides for Xenosaga, God of War, and GTA 4. There's only 14 or 15 DVD-9 games at present, so don't panic. You only have to do this with Swap Magic or HD Advance 2.0 and earlier.
77. Q. I have a modchip that supports DVD-9 games like the Matrix Infinity or DMS 4, how do I burn my dual layer discs?
A. You most definitely don't want to waste money on DL disc's, they're just too expensive for us po folks. You burn dual layer DVD-R's the same as single layer DVD-R's. Use DVD Decrypter. Burn at 4x on a DL 8x DVD-R. Use quality DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, TDK, Maxell, Sony, or Phillips. Avoid Memorex, Imation, Staples, or generic brand X.

Ok i dont know whats wrong with what i am doing. I burnt god of war at 4X(the slower my burner will let me burn), and the game keeps freezing a lagging. A friend of mine whose burner is connected on a usb1 cable (so his burner burns slower)burnt the game for me at about 1X and the game works perfectly. Why wont the game work when i burn it at 4X? I used imation DVD-R 8x disk and also ridata 8x DVD-R.
Do i need better media or maybe there is a way to make my burner write slower? I tryed to flash my burner to burn slower and it just stopped working so i had to flash it back.

ofcourse you 1st need to rebuild god of war.then you have to get rid of imation....it worked for some of my movies but ps2 games wont work on it most likely its very rare.i would get my hands on some japanese dvd-r(taiyo yuden, maxell, sony, tdk, ritek),stay away from imation, memorex(works 40 percent of the time),staples, playo, hyundai and blank media.and if you have 8x then burn at 4x and use DVD Decrypter.

Get better media. Maybe your burner doesn't write at 1x. Your lucky it works at all after bad flash. I am installing a new burner tonight, and there's no way in hell I'm gonna flash if I don't have to. God of War is a pain. There is a patch for it, I'm assuming that's what you used.

Liteon's are good quality. I just installed a Sony DRU 810A tonight and it works great. Liteon is the OEM for a lot of Sony burner's. What is the media code on that Ridata? Check it here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm I would suggest getting better media before blaming the hardware.

Im not blaming the hardware i just dont understand why when i burn it at 4x (the lowest possible speed) the game work horribly. But at 1x it works fine. Maybe i need better media but i heard ridata was good.
If anyone else knows the reason id like to hear it please.

What's the media code? To check the media code open DVD Decrypter. Insert your disc. Check and see what it says under Manufacturer ID and compare to the media codes in the link I posted. How old is your burner? Older burners may not be able to burn at 4x flawlessly. It may not support writing at 1x. There are several possible explanations. Most likely it's the media.
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

You just open DVD Decrypter then stick your disc in. A bunch of info will pop up and one of the items will say Manufacturer ID. Ritek G05 is decent, I used those before I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. Liteon's are good burners, I don't think the media's the problem. You did rebuild or patch of God of War to shrink it down to a single layer DVD game, didn't you? That sucks man I just got a new burner myself and I'd be dropping F bombs left and right if it wasn't working. I forgot, were you using Swap Magic or a modchip? You have to shrink GOW to DVD-5 or single layer DVD to use it with SM.
@Torii check here for any info you need for burning games:

Well the problem is definetly not with the game cuz like i said my friend burnt it for me at 1x (the same exact image) and it works perfectly. Just when i burn it on my burner i cant go less the 4X and the game play and then lagg and freezes.
I use a modchip but like i said the problem isnt the actual game.
I dont know how it could be the burner i mean its brand new, so i dont know.

Okay you must have a version that's already patched. I'm not really sure what the problem is. I had a little bit of problems with the Ritek G05 media. I had to rebuild NHL 2006 and NBA Live 2006 with them. But I've got plenty of backups to play perfectly on them as well. A new burner should be able to burn fine at 4x. So far I've backed Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Devil May Cry 3 flawlessly at 4x. It could be the firmware, but since you've already have had adventures with that, I wouldn't try again. I'd try some better media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. Have you backed up any other games successfully with your Liteon burner?
