To Mr. Tokijin or whoever can answer this.
All i have are memorex dvd-r's. Im only 16 and dont got a job and cant buy the good dvd-r's listed in your guide. If i burn a game to a memorex, will it not play at all, or will it mess up while playing or wont boot or sumthin similar? Thanks.

Yeah don't buy those crap Memorex off ebay. Memorex is horrible. Companies outsource their DVD-R's to different manufacturers. Maxell's are definitely better than Memorex, depending on which media code they have. CMC Magnetics is horrible. You can buy Maxell DVD-R's at Wal-Mart that are gold colored and come in a blue wrapper that have the Ritek G05 media code. Make sure you get em at Wal-Mart, I bought the same DVD-R's at Staples and they were media code CMC Mag AE1- garbage. To check the media code, open DVD Decrypter, insert your DVD and check what it says under Manufacturer ID. Compare it to what you find here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm The game might boot with Memorex, but you won't have a high success rate. Go with the Maxell's at Wal-Mart. Yes Swap Magic will work with the slim. DVD+RW's don't work well at all with the PS2.
7. Q. What do I need to use Swap Magic?
With Slim PS2 v.12-14
Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag... Magickeys (also referred to as slide tool, slim tool or, magic switch): http://magickeys.net/ or tape and tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).

Trunks you've had a zillion problems backing up games. What kind of DVD burner do you have? I seem to remember someone telling you your burner was a POS. That may be true if you have all these problems with different games. Also beware using RE4 with third party memory cards. I've heard this can corrupt your third party card. Make sure you use it with an official Sony card. Have you tried Gnie's new rebuilding tool? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/254388 It's supposed to be real simple and effective.

I had 2 Lite-on 16X single/dual layer burners, installed in 2 different machines. Both drives decided to bomb out after a year's worth of dvd burning. They decided to not want to recognize retail dvds, and the burning process became a random "hit and miss" on successful completions. The Lite-On tech support isn't the best either. They are always quick to say "did ya install the latest firmware", which, the problem occurred with and without the new firmware, even after complete system reformats.
I'm now using 2 HP dual/single layer 640i Light Scribe burners, and it's been doing the job nicely. It came bundled with labeling software for Light Scribe ability, as well as, Record It Now. Though, I don't use the "record it now" software, programs such as DVDD, CloneCD, Clone DVD 2, ShrinkTo5, and others work well with the burner. Oh yeah, the drive, the same as the Lite-On burner, will accept both + and - R dvds.

well buddy i suggest you dont use that software.you can download DVD Decrypter for free and it is THE BEST software and MOST POPULAR software out there used by us ps2 guys.its really simple.insert game into dvd drive, open DVD Decrypter, choose a destination and decrypt.that will create an image file aka .iso and then you can write .iso(if you're DVD-R is 8X then burn at 4X)and voila.

Yeah I've heard I/O burners are garbage. I'm in the market for a new burner myself. I think I'm gonna go with the Sony DRU 810A. Sony's are a little more expensive, but their quality is excellent. For about half the price ($40) you can a BenQ 1640 which works well too. I just figured I'd splurge and get a really nice burner. Yeah use DVD Decrypter to back up PS2 games. Instructions on how to use it are posted twice on this same page. You can scroll up a little bit and read it. Follow those instructions and you should be fine. Phillips DVD-R's are okay. I believe Nexttech's are crap. For the same price you could've ordered some Taiyo Yuden's. Oh well use the Phillips if you already ordered them.

I agree. DVD Decrypter is freeware that works great. There are instructions for it on this page and all over the net. If you have to use Blindwrite, quit being lazy and look for yourself. If you have the time to post about it, you can search. Or you could just use DVD Decrypter.

I have some questions.
OK, I have like 50 Philips DVD+R discs. But I have like 100 DYNEX DVD-R.
Which ones should I should I use (because I see people saying Philips should be DVD-R)
And will my PS2 be able to recognize and play both
