I've spent the last 6 hours reading these forums and learning whatever I can before asking my question (so I don't sound like a total Noob). I successfully did 1:1 ISO backups using DVD Decrypter, but I couldn't find an answer for this:
I have an .mdf (3.4Gb) and .mds file (5Kb) from the net. Do I need to convert the .mdf file into an ISO? Can I just burn the .mdf to DVD-R and my fliptop PS2 will be able to play it? What software do I need to get this done? I only have DVD Decrypter, but I can get Nero. I do not have ISObuster or Alcohol 120 (yet).
Thanks in advance!
It ain't easy being a Noob.

Yes you can burn it to a DVD-R and play it on your flip top (assuming you have some type of mod of course :P). AND be sure to use good media lol.

Load the mds file into DVD Decrypter. You need some type of mod to boot PS2 games, like Swap Magic or a modchip.
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, etc.
3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or

Ended up using the demo Alcohol 120 on my Taiyo Yuden DVD+R and it worked like a charm. Funny enough, you need to select the .mds file (the smaller one) in either Alcohol or DVD Decrypter and I guess it directs your burner to the larger .mdf file. In any case, the game works beautifully. Thanks for the assistance!

I have DVD Decrepter and a CD/DVD burner. I have swap magic w/ the fliptop and I have the newest ps2 700 series. What do I need to do to copy ps2 games and play them even online games. I would be very appreciate of you if anyone can give me a step by step process and can I use DVD-R 18x or do you need a certain x.

C'mon quit being lazy. The answer is two posts above:

A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?

I can't say this enough. Avoid Memorex, Imation, or anything with the dreaded CMC Magnetics media code. Use good media. Your PS2 will thank you down the road.

quick question, i'm trying to rebuilt romancing saga because it's ridiculously slow with my v5/v6 ps2 (i'm using swap magic 3.3) but when i extract romancing saga there are only 11 files who are 4mb. and now i can't burn it with Nero and cd/dvd gen. because it's to small. what did i do wrong?

hey ive read through a lot of the forum and i just have one question. I have a version 4 ps2 so does that mean that i have to burn my games w/ DVD-R only? There was a post earlier that said that the ver4 ps2 cant read DVD+R.
So basically my question is: Can i use DVD+R or am i stuck using only DVD-R?

Well you'll probably be iffy with DVD+R's on a v.4. They make work or they may not. I'd stick with DVD-R's. I have a v.4 PS2 and I use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's.

Looked at them and didn't understand? Not quite sure what you're saying.
If you're not lazy then I assume you already know how to burn a DVD based PS2 game. So do everything the guide that Tokijin posted says, and right before you burn your game, select the speed (1X, 2X, 4X, or on some games, 8X). Then burn it! :P

DO you need to have swap magic in order to play dvd on ps2.
I use Nero to burn iso game in a memorex DVD+R 8x, but when i play it in my ps2, it tells me to insert a ps2 format disk.

@ Lennster I don't even know what your talking about. What file are you trying to burn? You load the mds or iso file into DVD Decrypter and burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R. Ditch the Memorex, they are crap. After you extracted the rar file what did you have? You should have an iso and maybe a couple other files.
@Digi2005 The answer to to the mod question is on this page, so I won't bother with that. Of course you need some type of mod to play PS2 games. If you're too lazy to scroll to the top of the page, your loss.

Good newz ive tested the maxells they seem to not work with my ps2 i went out and bought some sonys DVD-R accucore and they seem to work on my ps2 i made a backup of true crime nyc and it only boots up to the true crimes logo and then it starts to click so i think i need to reconstruct it. i have a felling that i got the process locked down and i think when i reconstruct it it will work. its kind of risky though i stil have my doubts since i got a v3 ps2.
