I did booktyped them for DVD-ROMs. My last thing to try is I have Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Silver coming in the mail. I'll see if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Guys as you can see I am a newbie here, at the forum, but I can tell you that I've been backing up my games sinnce I first got my lovely PS2, never had a problem until about two weeks ago, when I tried to copy 50 cent's bulletproof game, the game is bigger than a normal blank DVD+R 4.7gb, it shows like it has about 5.9GB, I even tried using alcohol thinking that there was some kind of trick and I burn it to my PC's HDD, and same thing the MDS file still is 5.9GB. so I was wondering, is this a dual layer disk or just some kind fo trick they use so you can't copy the disk so easy? and is it possible to fit it into a normal 4.7GB DVD+R? since I don't have a DVD+R DL burner. I was reading here in this site about DVD Shrink but I don't know if that would work with games too? Any ideas guy I really need help on this one
Thanks all

@ brm124 You won't have any issues with the Silver Thermal TYG02's. Most likely the issue's you're having are because your using DVD+R's in a v.5 PS2.
@ jvargasg Try searching a little next time:
50 cent bullet proof is a Dual layer game. You need to shrink to a single layer DVD if your using it with Swap Magic. If your using it with a modchip that supports Dual Layer games like the DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity, then you can burn it to a DL DVD. Your best best is to shrink it. There is no real program or tutorial, because it differs from game to game. This is a popular game (for some reason) so look around AD, google, and there will be a guide for it. Shrinking a DL disc to a single layer disc usually involves taking out movies, extras, etc.
Lucky for you I'm feeling generous. I found this after 5 minutes of searching: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/259903 You can also rebuild it using CD-DVD/Gen
11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949 With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515

some FYI for people who burn DVDs: If the DVD is _EVER_ bigger than 4.7GB, you have a 99.9% chance it's a dual layer. I have burned hundreds of backups for my movies & PS2 games. Every time I had something bigger than 4.7GB, it was _ALWAYS_ Dual Layer. Overburned factory pressed DVDs may exist, but I personally have not found any. Don't waste your time trying to figure it out..you simply will need a DVD-R DL for your PS2 games, or a DL+R DL for your movies.

I'm not exactly sure why, but when I use Memorex DVD+R's to backup PS2 games, they end up being very choppy. Like the game will skip and jump and sound will skip. However, when I used these 3 or 4 nameless (generic from CompUSA from several years ago, I believe) - they work perfectly. Problem is, I'm out of generics, and I'm not sure what to do. I suppose I can buy more from CompUSA, but I heard they switch factories, and that might be a problem... Either way, Memorex, while it works on my friends Japanese PS2 using a slide card, don't work for me for some reason...
Any thoughts?

Very, very weird ddblue. Use the other media as the Memorex will obviously continue to give you problems. PS2 likes DVD-R. Brand of choice being Taiyo Yuden, Ricoh, Memorex....try the TY first. You will NOT go wrong with that brand. btw, what version is your system & which chip do u have for playing backups?

I'm an extreme newbie! Do I have to use Swap Magic or a mod chip to play games that I have ripped with DVD Decrypter,ISOBuster, CDVDGEN, GNIE & Nero?? I think I made 3 coasters or maybe not, because I don't have a mod chip or swap magic??
Thanks!

okay you can have either but if you dont want to rebuild games then you use a modchip but you need dual layer DVD-R so i would say modchips are way better(matrix infinity,dms4)but if you cant afford it then get swap magic 3.6 and a flip top(slide card isnt really good for the ps2)and dont burn with Nero,do it with DVD Decrypter too its much easier with less coasters.

Well, as a kind of update to my last post about Memorex not working and CompUSA generics working...
I took a gamble and bought a 100 stack of generic blank DVD's at a CompUSA sale (I can't remember if they were pluses or minuses, because I'm on vacation for the holidays and the DVD's are at home). I figured heck, it's a gamble, but it's only $20... and they work perfectly! I got very lucky.
Also, to answer the question about what chip and system I use, I don't know what system - it's an older PS2, not flat or anything, and it loads from the front. That being said, I also have no modchip, I use Swap Magic to play my backups. So far it's worked out great! OH, and the original Memorex's I was attempting to burn with (the ones that had problems) were DVD+R's. I hadn't heard that the PS2 likes DVD-R's before!
Anyway, sorry for the long reply :)

82. Q. When I'm burning with DVD Decrypter or Nero I get an I/O error or some other strange error, what's going on?
A. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm
@DDBlue You might get by with cheap media for awhile, but it'll stop working, your PS2 will die from the cheap dyes on the DVD's, or some game you really want to play won't work. It's not a matter of if but when. Get some good media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's from here:
86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
@had1
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544
3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm
@enth It's better to use DVD-R's in general. Newer PS2's should work fine with DVD+R's or DVD-R's. Go with DVD-R's if you have an older PS2.
23. Q. What version is my PS2?
A. http://mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm

good morning boys / girls.
i have a problem with all the burning ps2 things.. well, where to start.. i have an old ps2 console, had it for like.. 3 - 4 years if i remember correctly.. so a month a go i bought magic swap 3, and it worked fine with original games "with other region code" and i tryed to burn ps2 games aswell, the first game worked fine, and the secound game.. well.. heres the problem.. now when i start the ps2 with magic swap 3.. it sometimes doenst find the cd.. and when it does.. and i insert a burned ps2 cd. i have to wait for like.. 10 min before the game starts.. and when it finaly starts.. its all laggy.. the sound starts like 10 sec before a picture is showen on the TV.. and im all confused.... also when im entering another map "area" in a game, it takes another 10 min to load it up :)
im considering on bying a new ps2 console.. but i wanted to check on you professionals before doing it. are you familiar with this problem?
thanks alot.

Excuse me for my newbie questions!!
If I install a "Mod Chip" will I still have to use a boot disc like Swap Magic or just rebuild the game and I'm ready to go?? I've already rebuilt a game so I think I understand that process, except there are some conflicting post in the Forum in regards to 'Dummy" files?? Do I have to replace them if I'm using a "Mod Chip" or only if I'm using a "Swap Magic" boot disc?? The only game I've rebuilt had a "DUMMY.PAD" file which was 1.65GB's the entire game disc was only 4.5GB's? Does this sound like the proper dummy file to replace?? I have PS2 ver. 14 so I'm limited to a soldered on "Mod Chip" or the (Kit, w/three small pieces) and Swap Magic boot discs?? Sounds like 'Swap Magic" is not foolproof??
Thanks for your help!!
