Ok...Where do I get swap magic? Because I have the .ISO, but it wont work on my ps2 when I burn it...

I think my PS2 just blows because almost every CD I have says Disc Read Error...EVEN DVD movies...

But I need to know how to actually get swap magic to work on and old fat PS2 or is there a better choice besides mod chip

You can order Swap Magic off of a bunch a sites. http://www.gocybershop.ca is a good site. I'd hold off on ordering until you know for sure your PS2 will still load games. It's not a good sign if it won't even load originals. Try cleaning the laser with a Q tip and rubbing Alcohol.

74. Q. I turn on my PS2, the disc spins and makes a "clicking" sound. It says "disk read error" in my browser, what do I do?
A. This could be a sign your laser is dirty or scratched. Clean it with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol if you think it might be dirty, also be sure to check it for scratches. Fat PS2 v.1-11: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/ps2diy/ Consult the links listed earlier in this thread for info. This could also be a sign your game is dirty or scratched. You can clean it with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth or tissue. Only apply a couple drops of rubbing alcohol on the disc, 4 or so evenly spaced. You may want to use an eye dropper for this. Rub it with a lint free cloth or tissue in a non circular pattern until it's try. Your other option is to buff out the surface scratches with on the disc with a "Game Doctor." I came across a $20 Memorex cleaning device at Wal-Mart which basically does the same thing. It worked wonders for my scratched Breaker Pro disc. The Game Doctor will set you back around $40. If the scratches are too deep, this won't make any difference. If you get the "clicking" sound with a backup, all these same things apply. Also MAKE SURE that your not using cheap media. Again check the links posted earlier in this FAQ. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341

Well I'd use rubbing alcohol. That's what I've always heard, and I've done it several times myself. I definitely wouldn't do it with Windex. Follow the instructions in the link I posted. If that doesn't work, you need to take it to a pro. Not loading originals can be sign the laser or motherboard is nearing it's end.

@ jspono33 Your question was answered twice on the previous page. I'm not answering it again. Read a little and you can't miss it.

That's better. At least you read a little. You can find modchips on a couple sites. In your case, I may just recommend Swap Magic. What version PS2 do you have?

23. Q. What version is my PS2?

LOL I have had this PS2 since they first came out....lol the warranty is SOOOOO voided by now lol.

I was thinking either to take it to a Sony specialist or just taking a friends PS2 (its pretty much done) and pulling the laser reader out of it and putting it into mine and see if it works...

till then I think I will just stick to Xbox

No need for the melodrama. You only need one or the other, not both. I have a modchip, once you have a chip you'll never go back to disc swapping again. Swap Magic is cheaper and reliable. A chip is really more for serious gamers. Since you're new to the PS2 backup scene, I'd probably just go with Swap Magic. You need a flip top or slide card to use Swap Magic with the "fat" PS2. You get always get a modchip later on, if you want. If you're looking for a good site to order Swap Magic from, try http://www.gocybershop.ca A lot of people have ordered from there with good results.

I'm going to be more blunt than Tokijin regarding some questions in this thread:
RTFM: Read the f**king manual!!
Your question (99% likelyhood...close enough) has already been answered in the thread. Like the swapmagic questions, the fliptop questions, etc, etc.
RTFM.
Live by it.

Hi, can someone help me with this plz, first of all I have the big ps2 not the slim one, I use DVD Decrypter to burn the games, I do ISO read first then ISO write, it burns for like 4 minutes then it gives me an errore messege, and I tried both files non of them worked. The other thing is, do I have to add anything to my ps2 in order to play the back ups or just leave it the way it is, sorry but this is my first time here, and I looked to see if I can find an answear but I didn't, thank u,

What's the error message you get? And yes, you will have to get a modchip or swap magic in order to play your backups.

what ps2 do you have? big a slim?

for big ps2, you have to take the cover off the disk tray. open up disk tray, cut the power by the switch in the back, not by holding the reset button. flip over ps2 so its layin on its back, unscrew the screw, and it should be able to be taken off. This method is to be used with the slide card, or my messed up looking gift card slide card

for slim ps2. you need a flip top, or tape a tissue/more tape mod.

Has anyone had any luck burning games with "game-cloner"? I read some of the postings on here and had a similar problem when I put the backup copy in my ps2: the border turned a pinkish color, instead of white, and the game did not work. I have used back up games on my ps2 with swap magic and have gotten it to work but why do you think i can't get my games to burn? Thanks for any help you can send my way.

An I/O error usually mean's the disk is scratched or dirty. Are you getting an I/O error during the MODE-->ISO-->READ part, or the MODE-->ISO-->WRITE part?

@ric 1 What kind of media are you using?

ok, so i'm a noob at this. i've never burned one before, waiting for my swap magic to arrive in the mail. but i burned a couple of games, and there is a gap in the disk, like when reading from in to out. There is a small gap, about a 1/4th of an inch. Is that normal? if i need to i can post a picture for my signature or something for someone to see. thanks for your time. :)
