It's okay. I can tell the difference when someone is trying to steal it and simply forgot to give credit. No prob. I know I've done it at times myself. Cheers!

I will begin by apologizing if this is listed anywhere between page 47 & 60 of this link. I just couldn't read anymore. I finally think I know what I am doing but I have a few concerns and a couple of questions (as I have found, wonderful answers to questions on afterdawn). Not being computer literate, can anyone please let me know if I have the general backup process correct. I have quite few very nice coasters (although they may work as I have finally found out I need more than the swap magic disks :) ) so...I am trying to avoid making anymore...
1. DVD Decrypter
2. Read to HD
3. Write to DVD Disk
Put it in the slimline PS2...
Here is where I have been having problems. I have the swapmagic3 disks but apparently I also need the slide or the flip top cover (ps2model # SPCH 700012). I plan on ordering one, but
1. Is there a way to "swap" the disks until I receive one of these?
2. Should or should I not verify the copy?
3. I am trying to burn a backup of my husbands EA Sports Madden 2005 game, is there something with the EA games that make them harder to burn (I have seen hints that they are in some of the threads)?
Thanks in advance!

That's close. You can use DVD Decrypter to rip the game to your Hard Drive. Then you burn the games to quality DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. No there is no way to swap discs until you get Swap Magic. You need an original copy of Swap Magic, a burned copy will not work. EA games can be picky. They may need rebuilt. Don't worry about rebuilding yet until you know for sure that your EA games don't work.
7. Q. What do I need to use Swap Magic?
A. With Slim PS2 v.12-14
Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag... Magickeys (also referred to as slide tool, slim tool or, magic switch): http://magickeys.net/ or tape and tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).
Pics (Thanks to PSPness): http://www.geocities.com/pstwoslimline/tapetissue.htm my tape and more tape
Just about the same, just a change on Censor 'A' and Censor 'B'
Censor B - http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/572/dsc010703xc.jpg keep the top closed, while you tape down the disk stopper, using a few layers of duct tape
Fur
Censor A - http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/4342/dsc010698we.jpg use tiny strips of duct tape to patch over the tiny censor. I used a screwdriver to help put on the tape.

Ingy2, I see 2 major probs w/your setup. First is the media TYPE (go w/DVD-R if at all possible) and the manufacturer. Even Maxxell is better than Nexxtech. Taiyo Yuden being one of the highest. Find yourself a decent mid-level brand & experiment before buying an expensive set. I have both a mid-level and high level (TY) of all my backups. Spending an extra 20 cents/disc across 80+ games is no big deal. Atleast I have piece of mind.
btw, are you able to borrow a friend's PS2 & try SMv3.6 on it? If the problem repeats itself, it's the media. If you have a friend who has a working backup, try that on YOUR system. If it does not play, it could be one of several issues. Post back once u change media & tell us how it went.

I'm a new in this forum, and due to my laziness, i'm not quite willing to read sixty pages... :)
So, here is my question. Can you play different region games with the Swap Magic 3.6(and the Flip top) on PS2 V10?
Have a nice day!

Tokijin:
I would like to thank you (and PSPness, definitely) for the clear, specific instructions on doing the tissue mod! It was easy enough to do even with a 3 & 5 year old breathing down my neck.
What I thought were coasters now work beautifully!
Thanks again!

sure, anytime. But just for future use, after a while, the tape will start to come off, becouse of the heat inside the ps2, but you probably wont have to worry about it, just play with the lid closed, unlike me, where i played with it open, cause i liked to see it spinning, lol, but just keep the lid closed and you wont have to change it for, well, ever.
Peen!

Hi i was wandering when backing up a ps2 game using DVD Decrypter you go to mode then choose iso read once thats done you go to iso write and you choose the MDS file??? But when you want to backup a game where u can play online i was told to use a program called winDIP this is where u have to patch the DNA$ located in the iso file once thats done and its time to burn the game when using DVD Decrypter you do the same procedure as indicated above but instead of the MDS file do u burn the image file cause thats the file you patched... is this correct... Thanks

if you take it off the right way, you can. if you open the tray and turn off the psp by the switch in the back, the tray stays open when you un plug it, turn it upside down and take the screw off, itll come off.
i think this is the way you take it off
and yea, the gift card slide card will work, i use it sometimes with the big ps2 i have
edit, yea use the mds. dont know about the patching tho, never done it. but its probably right

Seems DVDDecrypter most easier method though does the PS2 have to have modchip play these burned games??

when using DVD Decrypter whats the difference between .MDS and .ISO... cause all this time i've been writing the .MDS file and it still works... cause awhile ago i found a guide that states to write the .MDS file until recently i came across another guide that states to write the .ISO image file... i already burned about 12 games using the .MDS file and it works... i guess i can reburn it again and use the .ISO image file but is there a difference between the two files... thanks

I have a newbie question.....
1. I have slimline v14 (75001) and am in the process of ordering swap magic. I am confused as to what other product I should order...
I am confused about fliptop vs slide card vs magic switch...What works??
Also, this is really a newbie question, but I understand that the ps2 will have to always be open correct?
And I also wanted to make sure that once altered, the unit can still play original games correct?
I know, I know...I am soo green that I have grass growin out of my butt....Regardless, I will appreciate any feedback..

yeah....you need some sort of mod chip. myself. i chose Swap Magic...its the hell of a lot easier. you should look into it if you arelooking into playing "BACKUPS" of your games. lol but then again it can be a pain in the butt sometimes. but they are pretty cool.
jspono33:I would go with a high quality DVD-R. there are some references in the first couple of pages

Man nobody wants to any reading anymore. Every single question that was just asked was already answered earlier in this thread or in my FAQ. EA sports games seem to need rebuilt often with Swap Magic. Not always. These questions should answer most of your questions. Search a little, this stuff has been covered in the PS2 forums ad nasuem.
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter.
Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544 If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else?
3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
HD Advance: http://www.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_how-to-use.htm
10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip. Another purpose of rebuilding is to make games run smoother. Usually the size of the game after rebuilding is smaller, but not always. If you're a Swap Magic user, make sure to look out for dummy files when rebuilding.
11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949 With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515 With Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar
Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT:
From Anthony 05:
Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work.
1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.
Make sure you do it in that order.
This worked for me when every other way failed.
It is very easy to do so even the noobies should be able to do it.
Keep in mind im backing up the PAL version, but if your having trouble backing up with NTSC then i dont see a problem trying.
Good luck.
