I had a sony Dru something drive and it would burn with errors. Only way to really tell is to try it out with your dvd's and see if it works. If so, then stick with it. If not, try other media and or another burner.

Just got my WiiKey and installed it with the quick solder method, I didn't have any good wire here so I tore apart a wire from an old keyboard to connect the contacts. Easy install and it works perfect. Also the Kodak media I used works fine with it too, I tested Dragon Ball(made 2 copies, 1x and 4x and both work fine) and the wiikey disc so to the person I was talking to last night maybe you need a new burner after all.

It a Kodak DVD-R. I got them for Christmas a few years back but never used them and they are the only thing I have here now. I was playing Dragon Ball for a couple hours with no issues what so ever. One question though, does anyone else Wii seem to make a little more noise after they modded it? I know the install is good but when it's reading it just sounds like it's clicking more or something. I guess it's just the media though because it's they same type of deal on a PC drive, put a real disc in and a recordable disc and it's louder with the recordable.

i have read thru all 6 pages of this thread. and i have a few questions to ask. i have no knowledge on modding systems, and i was wondering if the wiikey mod is permanent. like in the future, say nintendo can trace backups being played for instance, will i be able to remove the wiikey mod and have a normal wii again? i am really worried about this as i heard some game will be made online to play (or rumored to be) like final fantasy, does adding wiikey jeopardize this opportunity?
also, i have the lg burner, but i prefer to burn using my sony laptop burner, is this okay? and for some reason, my Nero has problems with it, so i always use the sonic record now program that comes with the sony vaio computers, has anyone tried this, does it work?
i have been reading that some ppl's backup copies don't work, is this due to the burning program or due to the dvd's themselves. i am planning on buyin the wiikey once my concerns have been answered. and also, is the verbatim DVD-R the one that works best? or does it also depend on which burner you use the verbatim dvd with?
any information is fine, thanks in advance.

I was going to buy a new hard drive but didnt yet because my moms boyfriend game me a used system with windows xp on it.
The only thing i need now is Windows Installer 3.0 I spent all day yesterday getting this computer ready and downloading everything I need, but when I went to download Installer 3.0 it runs a validity test to make sure you dont have a counterfeit copy of windows and this system is not passing that test.
Is there any way I can get Windows Installer 3.0 on this computer or is there any other programs I can download instead. Please somebody help, I dont have much hair left!! Thanks Also my other system has 3.0 but I dont have the original windows disc.

I checked and there was still about 4GB left. ???????? I am going to try to defrag and then try again. Any ideas??? Please!

With the bakcup games. I have been using Nero 7.5.7.0 with a NEC DVD_RW ND3550A burner writing at Max Speed (6x) to TDK DVD-R 16x 4.7 discs.
They have been working great and No problems at all. Not even a disc read error.
Watch me go back to my game and get this though LOL..

assuming you got a free spot on your ide cable to hook it up it will work on any windows based system since the software you need to rip the game works on windows... what system do you have? we can tell you if it will work on it or not..

Started to read a game today and ran out of disk space after it was a little over 4G, and it took about 4 1/2 hours to get that far. my system is really old so i guess i need a new hard drive, huh?? If im right i saw some 250g on ebay, you think that would be a good size? Do they have different brands on hard drives?? Dont know much about computers.
also, once i get a new hard drive will i be able to store the games on the drive so i can make games for my friends as well? I think i should be able to do that as long as i get a big enough hard drive.
Thanks for any advice you can give, Im going to bed and will check for responce tom, thanks
You might not actually need another drive. You should try to convert your file system to NTFS as a FAT32 system can not create files over 4GB (which sounds like your problem)

Radio shack also has them right on the shelf at your local store. I would definately try to solder something like point to point on an old board before you tried your wii.

Rawdump 2.0 will work with USB drives (google IDE to USB) but some cables will NO work. The cable that does not work can be found here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260093956698
The USB to IDE that does work has a board inside of it where as the one that doesn't, does not. Hope this helps.

Try setting the transfer mode of your IDE to PIO only, this seems to solve a bunch of .Net problems.
Control Panel->System->Hardware Tab->Device Man->IDE Controlers
->which ever IDE channel you're on->right click-> properties
->advance settings tab->transfer mode (for device)

You can either format your hard drive into an NTFS file system (do this using your windows CD) or create a partition with some free hard disk space you have. I would go with the partition so you don't lose all of your data. You should keep in mind though that its much easier going from FAT32 to NTFS, going from NTFS to FAT32 is pretty tough. To create a partition do a search on whatever OS you're running (help files). BTW, what OS are you running? I probably wouldn't attempt this unless you're running XP. Also note that once you create a NTFS partition you have to have rawdump in that partition so that it dumps there. I would also make the partition around 9 GB so I could work with the files easier. Hope this helps.
