I have learned this from another forum. I was using the cyclowiz chip burning my games with a sony dvd burner. Using Verbatim -R dvds. Every game kept getting the cannot read disk error. Someone told me to get the pioneer 111d burner and it would fix the problem. I didnt believe it as my sony burner was pretty new. But I got it anyway. After burning the same games with the pioneer burner. Everyone played fine. Except the certain games that wont work with the cyclowiz. However I already switched to the wiikey and now all games work flawless. So using the LG drive to rip and the pioneer to burn. You'll be on your way to error free disks in no time.
This is true and I agree. The Pioneer 111D (updated to a now 112D) has the proper layer break (google it) that is needed to burn the games successfully. I have been successfully backing up my XBOX 360 games for a few months now using this same drive for burning the ISO for the same reason.
A lot of the DVD-RW drives on the market have the proper layer break (like the 111D does) right out of the box. A lot of them do not. Some DVD-RW's can be reflashed (easy to do) with firmware from their respective manufacture's websites that will conatain the proper layer break and then will become useable for backing up you Wii games. I suspect that is why some of you guys are having trouble backing up Wii games even though it seems that you have doen everything correctly as indicated in post #1 of this thread (nice tutorial BTW - TY!)
geno
It has been pointed out that firmware "softmodded" XBOX360's have been detected by MS and been disabled. Nothing could be more true and that is just a rumor.
One more thing that I would like to point out (and this involves backing up Wii games as well as XBOX 360 games). It is ONLY legal to back up copies of games that you yourself own (retail copies). It is highly ILLEGAL to DL copied games from anywhere.

ive been reading this thread back and forth, but i just cant get why my burned wii isos dont play ;_;
i have naruto and bleach, and tried to toast them a couple of times with lots of different types of dvd (princo, verbatim, maxtor, etcetc), and different modes and different soft... but not a single one runs on my console
of course my wii is modded and all other wii backups that i got from a friend play smoothly...
so, what do you think is happening?
can anybody help me please? :(

OK, I am a complete and utter idiot. I forgot the last time I bought a burner it was a pioneer.
So, I have the pioneer dvr-109. I copied a disc a friend made for me and it worked perfectly. The copy he made did not work in the wii.
Just wanted to let you guys know it worked.

Um, no. You can use any burner, well maybe not any but pretty much any should work. I don't even know if my burner has a brand name, theres nothing on the tray or anything and it works fine. The Pioneer 111D is needed for burning xbox 360 games, not wii games.

hey everyone, i've been reading up on this thread for some time now and i cant figure out why my system wont read the games.
im using a Sony DVD+-R dual layer burner to burn the game that i've downloaded. im currently trying to get Zelda to work. i downloaded the game in a rar file, extracted it then converted it to a ISO file using RawDump. the exact size of the file is 4.37GB and from what i have read, thats the size that you need. so i proceed with burning the game as an image file using Nero. the burn is succesful but when i play it on my Wii, it wont read the disc. yes my Wii is modded with a mod chip. im using Kodak DVD-R discs to burn. help please. thanks in advance.

Never said ONLY a Pioneer 111D. It's my guess that maybe the Wii games need to be handled like the XBOX 360 games. A lot of DVD vurners have the proper bit settings and layer break that are needed to burn these games and a lot are not. Some DVD burners can upgrade their firmware to have the proper bit settings and layer break.
My Wiikey is on the way. Time for me to experiment on my own in a couple of days myself.

i just got my drive from newegg.com and so far it's batting a thousand. It has made backups of wii and GC games flawlessly. Not to happy with Nero (trying to tell me that the wii iso is too big). imgburn worked great. No I can make my own backups instead of downloading.
many thanks to the party responsible for rawdump. We couldn't do it without you.

My bad, I posted late last night and when I looked this morning I didn't see my post. I obviously had a senior moment and forgot where I put the original post. Sorry

Hey all!
Since ImageBurn is an off-shoot of DVD Decryptor...will it work with Decryptor? Also, I have downloaded a prog used in DOS called "raw dump"...I am assuming that Raw Dump 2.0 is the second incarnation or is it a totally seperate prog with a much "friendlier" gui?
Thanks, in advance.
