I'm not exactly certain what you mean, like a gap inbetween where the laser reads the data? I wouldn't worry about that as much as using good media. Use good media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's.

. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter.
Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544
If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else?

3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or

If anyone has information on backing up:

The Matrix - Path of Neo (PAL)
Anubis II (PAL)
Crime Life (PAL)
Shadow of Rome (NTSC)

PLEASE let me know. I take good care of my collection and I would like to make copies of these games. I am fairly knowledgeable in making backups and I have figured out a few of the tricky titles I own, but these have me stumped. Thanks

the gap i'm refereing to is just on the disk, like at the end of the disk, where there isn't any information written to the outer part of a half full disk (you can see the two different shades of the disk). well i have a space of empty disk space on the inner part of the disk. when i get home i'll take a picture and add it to my name or something. I'm really sorry, it's hard to explain without seeing it.

Hi Peoples, Having trouble using DVD Decrypter to copy PS2 DVD PAL.
When I start the (Read ISO)program it comes up with and starts to read disc, It then comes up with CRC errors. and asks if I want to ignore them or retry. If I retry I get the same message. If I chose Ignore then it commences to do the ISO read but continually shows heaps of "Failed to Read Sector - Logical Unit communication - CRC Error (Ultra/DMA/32). It will copy about 7MB then no files are copied but disc is just spinning away. The program does not seem to want to respond and when I close it through the task manager the disc keeps spinning and I have to reboot to get it out

Any Ideas.. The game I'm using is from a slim line PS2 (Just Got it)
"Gran Turismo 3".......Comp 2.6GHZ 500+RAM..Sony DVD Burner

Yes remove the crack before you get banned. Soulcity, resize your sig. It's too big. Better I tell you about it before a moderator does. Plenty of people have backed up NBA Live 2006. It may need rebuilt since it's an EA sports game.

@Sabin06 I think you're being overly paranoid. I think I understand what you mean about the gap. Like I said worry more about using quality media. Cheap media is a lot more likely to cause your backups not to work than some gap without any data written to it.

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Yes use Alcohol 120% to copy your scratched games. It's a lot less picky than DVD Decrypter. It may take awhile to finish depending on the severity of the scratches, but it'll get the job done.

88. Q. How do I burn PS2 DVD games with Alcohol 120%?
A. Ripping the game to your Hard Drive:

1. Insert your disc.
2. Open Alcohol 120%.
3. Click Image Making Wizard.
4. Check Ignore read errors, select your recorder, leave the never seperate box alone.
5. Click Next. Select a destination for the game. Click Start.
Once the process is complete, you'll get an mds and an mdf file. Click finish, if necessary.

Burning the game to DVD:
1. Insert your blank disc.
2. Right click the mdf file.
3. Select Image Burning Wizard.
4. Select your recorder, set the write speed to 4x.
5. Click next.

Note: I use Alcohol 120% as my backup program for ripping scratched originals. DVD Decrypter can be picky with scratched discs. I use DVD Decrypter to burn the mds file. For purposes of this guide, I'm assuming you are you using Alcohol 120% to burn the game to disc. Feel free to use whatever works for you.

ok, just to verify, i'm not talking about the outside of the disk, the very inner part of the disk. If it's normal, that's cool, i was just checking.

Yeah I think that's normal. For the third time, don't worry about it. Use good media and you'll probably be fine with Swap Magic. You'll have no way to know it works until you get your SMD's anyway.

I'm new here and i imported some games from Thailand. They looked so real and i bought some, and tested them. They worked fine. Then in home when they didn't work, i recognized them as backups. I realised that they must've modded their consoles. I got soooooo punk'd up. But then i bought swap magic 3.6. Now some games work with a couple of tries, some don't work at all. I don't know where the problem is...
I would appreciate your help so much if you would help.

Strange about the installation of Swap Magic, i got left with two small bags with some kind of small plastic parts, which were no mentioned on the installation quide. There do read V4-V8 and V9-V10. I know they are meant to separate the PS2 versions, but i still don't know why they are there for. Also the most of the games have a some kind of strange blur in the middle of the DVD.
The bags look like this:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v677/velocityx/Kuva133.jpg
And this is the spot where you can find the blur, and what it is like:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v677/velocityx/Kuva134.jpg

The strange thing about the blur is that i could test the games in the shops and they worked fine, but now i'm thinking that it IS the reason. And my swap magic doesn't work everytime. I have installed the flip top cover exactly as the quide says, this is the install quide that I used:http://www.modpiiri.com/asennusohjeet/fliptop/Flip_top_ohje.jpg My original PS2 games work without a problem, but when it comes to swap magic, NO, they don't just work fine.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT !

PS. I have a Playstation V10.

Have a nice day!

I have downloaded DVD Decrypter and Nero both of them read the disk (gta san andreas) and were ready to burn it. Once i put in the blank disk (memorex 4.7 dvd-r)both of them came up with an error. Nero said it was an invlaid disk and DVD Decrypter said there wasn't even a disk in there to write to. If you know anything please help me.

If you got the games from Thailand, they're probably backed up on God awful media. What's the Media ID on those backups?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?

Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

dolby2q5 are you going MODE-->ISO-->READ in DVD Decrypter? You need to do that in order to rip the game to your HD. Then you use MODE-->ISO-->WRITE to burn the game to disc. Get rid of those Memosux. They're horrible. Get some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com

Ya I'm going to the read then I'm writing but its not picking of these disk. Thanks for the info on the type of disk. If I get a different brand should it work or is there another problem? Early in the forum it said the 4.7 had enough space. Is that true? Thanks!

P.S. I have several backups I am doing i have ripped all of them already and thier are saved to my HD, so the only problem I am having is writing it. I put in some 700 mb and they worked perfectly fine except for the space issue and those were from Memorex too.
