Hey guys, just to let you ALL know, I work at a surplus computer store, and Ive often come across those 4 drives. Had I known back then what I do now, I would have kept one formyself, and offered to you all here. Anyways Im keeping an eye out for more, and when they come in, you will be the first to know.

For chips shipping worldwide with Free Shipping, DealExtreme.com is a good site.
Every drive takes 2 hours and a half.

I have the 8161B it took 1hr 45 min to dump the game. Then another 25 minutes to burn at 2x. From what I have read in the guide the 8161/8162 dump faster than the 8163/8164.

I just received my GDR-8161B drive today. Took 2 hours to dump a game.
I got it from here:
http://www.cheeverind.com/parts/GDR-8161B.aspx
I got mine for $29, but I see they raised their price to $49 now. :(
They must have found out what they are used for.

I've followed all the guides but it takes so long. In the end its far easier to get good back ups elsewhere, my son has scratched and ruined one game since christmas I don't believe piracy to be the way to go but I think its OK for people to want to back up games that they've already bought as they cost a lot of money to replace.

removed - violates forum rules
Also, make sure your modchip is a good quality, well known chip. Don't use knock-offs. If you bought a $5 modchip, chances are you won't be able to play copied games on your Wii. I stick with WiiKey and have had great luck...

Hi. I'm a little confused on where to go. I've ordered a D2C Key ("Official") and one of those orange flex board things people say it's so much easier to install with.
Where can I find a detailed tutorial on how to install it? All of the websites or forums I've found only have pictures with letters on them or are for the WiiKey. I see pictures of the soldering with little wires method, but I want to see a completed mod with the flexboard and/or a tutorial on where to solder.
Can anyone please direct me to where I can find this? Thanks.

Hi all!
Great site here and very informative, I am glad I found it. I do have a question and please accept my apology if it has been asked already. If it has please be kind and point me in the right direction, thanks.
I downloaded a wii game off the internet, I didn't know about backing up games until now. It was in ISO format and all in one file, 4.37gb. I followed the instructions that came with it to burn the file. I used a Lacie external dvd burner to burn the file using imgburn at 3X speed. The disc I used was a Maxell DVD-R up 16X speed. The burn went fine and when I tried to use it I got the error message "Unable to read disc". While reading the posts here it seems I need to add some type of chip in my WII, is that correct? My console is new and supposedly the second version, not sure what that means.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Yes your correct you still need a mod chip in your wii....
Think the one your after is a Dc2Key...
But i'm a newbie here to, so i'm not 100% on that - not sure if a wiikey would work on yours
